While they've clearly invested in renovations and made the space look more modern and upscale, the overall vibe isn't what it used to be. The updates themselves aren't necessarily a bad thing--the mall is cleaner, brighter, and has a more polished look. But with those changes, it feels like the sense of community has faded. It used to be somewhere families, teens, and regular locals could all comfortably spend time together. Now, it feels more exclusive and, at times, less welcoming. The mix of stores has also changed quite a bit, leaning more toward higher-end or trend-driven shops rather than the balanced variety it once had. Because of that, it doesn't feel as accessible or practical for everyday visits. Overall, while the mall may look better on the surface, it has lost some of the character and inclusiveness that made it special in the first place. It's not necessarily worse in every way--but it's definitely not the same.

Experiencing the Ida environment was like visiting an art museum where you could touch the exhibit pieces, buy them if interested, learn about others, and think about how to enjoy, display, read and learn from the written word. And, the colors, the tones, the paint on the walls - add to the vibe. And...then the way that the kind sales guy packaged my books in twine so that I (or my husband did) carried my books as people use to do in the old days, when paper bags were not needed and there was pride in walking out with a stack of your new (or used) books for your reading pleasure.
