I recently acquired a Julius Schmidt sculpture, which was an important piece for my home, and as I was exposed to the historical context of the piece, the importance of Schmidt in the modern movement in the late 60's, I became more comfortable and committed to acquiring the piece, which was a significant allocation of my current art acquisition budget. Doug's passion as a gallery owner, his knowledge of this particular piece, but also all of the other pieces of art that we discussed in the time we spent at his storage facility where the piece was stored, galvanized my appreciation for his honesty, integrity, and willingness to help me understand the entire buying process of acquiring art.
