Mama G is a kind person with a warm personality, and her hair-washing skills are excellent. HOWEVER, based on my experience, she is NOT equipped to work with kinky 4C natural hair. During my first visit, she attempted a twist-out style that I had to assist with throughout. Wanting to give her another chance, I returned for a silk press. Unfortunately, she struggled to detangle my hair properly--starting from the roots instead of the ends--which led to excessive breakage and hair on the floor. Blow drying was also a challenge, and the final result was far from what I hoped for. Instead of a sleek, smooth silk press, my hair ended up puffy and lacked the polished look I was expecting, especially for $120. I usually straighten my hair only twice a year as a self-care treat, so leaving the salon disappointed and disheartened was tough. There are few natural hair stylists on the island, and in my opinion, Mama G is not one of them. read more

My first time here, and it won't be my last! Mama G's salon is out of her own house, and the space is beautiful & relaxing. There's street parking, and the perks of owning her own salon is that there are no walk ins and her focus is on you and only you. I booked a last minute appointment for a shampoo & haircut. Before stepping into her salon, you must sanitize your hands, and you leave your slippers outside. She did an amazing job cutting my hair and also educated me on products that she used and what I should use. It was the most relaxing time I've had in a while, and we could talk about anything! I needed a last minute cut while I was home for the holidays visiting family. Found Mama G on Yelp and easily made an appt on her website. She runs her salon out of her home and It's a private space with all the amenities you would find in a regular salon. When you pull up to the house, follow the walkway to the left where you will see the entry door to the salon. There is a shelf with hand sanitizer to use before you walk in. Exceptional lady! We were very pleased with her haircut and even more happy to have met this wonderful ball of joy! We didn't expect this salon to be at a home but really glad to have come upon it when we did. My husband was looking for a local haircut while on vacation is Hawaii and we were looking rather late in the day. We got an appointment on Saturday at 7PM which was rare for the hair salons in the area. The haircut was great and she was so sweet to provide things to do while we visit! So I came across Mama G's place while I was googling a place to cut my hair today. (01/01/2024) Everywhere was closed so I decided to give this place a call. The BEST haircut I've ever gotten. Mama G made me feel so comfortable and welcomed, in her awesome renovated salon located in her garage! I was blown away by the hospitality i was shown. The chair i sat in to get my hair washed was a massage chair, such a nice touch. The prices are unbeatable and Mama G is so talented. Cut 5 inches off of my hair and now it looks healthy and nice.
