It was surreal to ride out and soak up every moment of this vast land! Abby is welcoming, patient and a professional equestrian who values safety first. We appreciated all the photographs she took of us on the trail and she gave us insight about the local culture and history. We could not have asked for a better trail guide/wrangler. Also as a "horse person" I deeply appreciated how healthy and happy these horses are. They are well cared for that is for sure. We learned that many horses stay here for years, are not over worked and retire with dignity. I highly recommend the two hour ride, it was a deeply meaningful experience!

Piper was very personable and kept up steady conversation. The horses are well mannered, all with their own little quirks. It was nice that our wrangler knows the individual horses well enough to give us a heads up. For example, at the end of the ride there's a wide short bush that the horse I had insists on walking through. It wasn't dangerous, and it's just his preference and gives him a little joy, he scratches his belly on it. Piper knew the horses well enough she gave me a heads up so I wasn't surprised. It's a small-ish local museum so it won't take much time. You'll find artifacts dedicated to both cowboys and Native Americans which is great. I've learned a lot after my visit and it was worth the time and money. Lots of beautiful items being exhibited and you probably won't see such a big collection of artsy saddles anywhere! I'd recommend stopping here while you're visiting Theodore Roosevelt National park and the town of Medora.

Excellent smaller museum combining both the history of Native Americans and cowboys located just a…read morefew yards away from the entrance to Theodore Roosevelt National Park in the adorable town of Medora. This self-guided museum was the perfect place to stop before our journey into the actual park, and I really think it should be on your itinerary when in the area if it isn't already. It won't take a ton of time, maybe an hour or so to complete the three levels, but it's really worth it! The museum has a minimal fee for adults, free entrance for kiddos 7 and under, and free entrance for those 18 and under on Wednesdays and Sundays. Don't miss the short, but really informative documentary about the land here which was very interesting to see prior to heading out into it. The film speaks about Theodore Roosevelt's connection to the area and the battles which have taken place here. They even have saddle seats in the theater the kiddos loved! The kiddos ages 6 & 8 also loved riding the horses and dressing up like cowgirls! I loved tying them up in a lasso for a bit! Don't miss this section of you have wee ones with you! I really liked that this museum combines both Native American history and well as that of the cowboys. I loved the contrast of old and modern found in the exhibits here. There's amazing artifacts from the Native Americans such as moccasins, instruments, intricate beaded clothing, bear claw accessories, moccasins, arrowheads and more. There's also amazing detailed saddles, bad-a** guns, awards and metals from new rodeo stars, hats, belt buckles and more. We highly recommend a visit here for full understating and appreciation of the park. A few cool photo op items across the way like a giant buffalo skull the kids love playing in!

The Coal Diggers (the stage band) are proffessional musicians and the intermission comedian was hilarious. The whole performance with the horses and the fireworks was top notch. I have seen the Musical several times over the years and this is one of the very best. I cannot recommend it more highly.

We only saw the North Unit on our visit so we will definitely have to visit more at a later date. While visiting I felt so at peace and love that it's not overcrowded like other National Parks and that you really feel surrounded by nature and wildlife. We enjoyed driving along the scenic path and soaking in the stunning views! We saw cannonball concretions, stunning views from the overlooks along the way, and saw lots of bison. There are lots of hiking trails to explore and we saw deer. We look forward to coming back and hopefully seeing wild horses and prairie dogs. The park is large with so much to see and do. An absolutely gorgeous place to visit that is so underrated! Highly recommend visiting this place!

Even though we went through the bottom portion, we were able to see some horses and look out at the beautiful views. We were able to get junior ranger books and badges. I even got to get a magnet from the little shop at the painted canyon visitor center. It was much hotter than we thought it would be, so we were not able to do any hikes during our visit in July. But even just driving through the land was beautiful.

If you like old farming equipment, this is the place for you! Although, I know very little about…read morefarm equipment, there was some other very interesting pieces to look at: 1) a 1889 Buggy, which was used by the Country Doctor 2) a little cabin and 3) an arrowhead display. This place is open during the summer months, but after or before Labor Day you'll have to ask a staff member at the museum next door to open it up with their keys. Enough of us (a group of like 9) asked and they happily obliged and took us in. There was also a cool updated section, where you could hear the sounds of the many machines. My only wish is that the informational plaques would be a little bit bigger (or bigger font to read). Some of the plaques are not in places that are easy to access (can't get up close or around the machines). Overall, it is worth coming over to look at if you're right by the visitors center or the museum! I enjoyed learning a few new things!

The…read moreDickinson Museum Center is a combination of the Badlands Dinosaur Museum, the Joachim Regional Museum, and the Pioneer Machinery Hall. If you are into Dinosaurs this place is for you! You can easily get lost in this place for an hour (or more, but I was on a mission to get through it all quickly). There's lots of different rocks (precious stones) to look at! I love the fluorescent minerals room (rocks under a black light that glow)! There's lots and lots of fossils. Another cool perk is the real triceratops skull (not a cast) on display! I wasn't particularly excited about the Joachim Regional Museum. It was kind of just meh. There's very little recognition to the Indigenous folks that were/are in this area (literally Kildeer Mountain, sacred site, is like 30 miles up the road from here). Overall, I am a fan! I'd love to be notified if there was any new exhibits coming through! Lastly, I love the gift shop, nice jewelry selection!
