Made a stop here as we were passing thru. It's a cute little place and the people were really nice. We weren't expecting fries like these but they were so good! Terrific strawberry malt! Burgers are on toasted bread instead of buns. Great, classic food. If dining inside dress warm- it is quite cold. The waffle fries were very hard (tricky for younger eaters). Something to just keep in mind they aren't like chick fil a's etc. read more

Service was okay. We ended up being overcharged by an extra $9. They did refund the at to me when I pointed it out and apologized. I'd rate it 1 star if it wasn't for them being polite about that. Over priced, they charged me $7 dollars for the chilli on my burger. Got a refund took 45min to get me pissed off enough. It's a TRADITION to stop at the Malt Shoppe in Pagosa before heading out! This time was no different - however, I do feel it to be important to address the reviews this place has been receiving. The Malt Shoppe is understaffed & their interior is closed. They do advertise this with papers before you even get into the line that trails the length of the building; however, people still wait 10-15minutes through the line and another 10-20 minutes to receive their order. The service is friendly & definitely stressed. An order before us had over 15 milkshakes alone while working a lunch rush. Everyone waited patiently & then I went to read some reviews. *NOTE* I did not order a meal this time - I've seen reviews complaining about the burgers; however, it's called the "Malt Shoppe" for a reason. We came for malts! I ordered a strawberry malt & I'd give it a 7/10. Not the best this time around, but definitely not bad! The food ,was disgusting. It was barely lukewarm, sloppy,looked like vomit and I'm not sure what they called meat. It was more like tofu. I don't remember the last time my tasted or experienced something so disgusting.. Service was horrible. The girl taking our order was too busy eating her ice cream cone dripping the ice cream all over the counter all over her fingers kept slurping the ice cream then she dropped ice cream on the machine, turns it around and tells us to enter our card and then shows us where the button is to push to get a tip!! Hysterical I knew right then we were introuble. it's a mom and Pop little store so if the food wasn't so disgusting and the counter help wasn't so disrespectful and unprofessional then the cuteness and ambience would've fit right in because it does look like an old-fashioned malt shop. The Malt Shoppe needs to be featured on Gordon Ramsay's "24 Hours to Hell and Back" or be shut down by the Health Department. We may even have to unfriend the person who suggested it. By far one of if not the filthiest restaurants I've ever been in. There were flies throughout the restaurant. Behind the counter the floor was covered in dirt/mud (see photo). The dining room was a disaster, the trash cans were overflowing, there was litter on the floors and the tables had litter because no one could throw their trash away. The ketchup bottle on our table was empty so after checking 7 other tables I found a bottle that had a little left. The cashier didn't know what was on the patty melt and had to ask another employee. The fries were slightly under cooked. And I've had better corn dogs from the grocery store. When the bathroom is the cleanest place in a restaurant you know the place sucks (oh and even that was out of paper towels). read more

Took 30 mins to get a malt and a cone. What in the world??!! Terrible unfriendly service. The kicker was they charge you 3.5% for using a credit card. Which is 10000% ridiculous. With the high prices of desserts you more than make up for your fee. Ice cream machine looks dirty. The malt was supposed to be chocolate and was like drinking pure nestle syrup. Wonderful large burger with ample fries. You can tell the meals are cooked when ordered. Everything was fresh and hot. The wait for the order was not much longer than a sit down, eat in restaurant. For a tourist town, the price is acceptable .since it is take-out only, there really isn't any ambiance. This is really a good place to get food. read more

Worst Malt Ever with Rude Service to Boot! We live in Pagosa Springs for about 6 months of every year and have been to the malt shop occasionally - mostly because of its convenient location and visitors always like a little ice cream. The service has always been slow and rude, but we kind of shake it off for an easy stop for ice cream. This week, we ordered 3 large chocolate malts to go, drank them as we drove off or else we would have gotten our money back. The "ice cream" was barely frozen and there was about an inch of malt glued to the bottom of the cup along with chunks throughout. None of us drank them! And of course they were served by the normal rude employees who act like they'd rather be anywhere else but there. BTW-the business is for sale so you'd think they would try a little harder to create "good will." I have never been inside the place, but my son tells me it's old and the ice cream machines look old and dirty. read more
