Saw a radon installation that went bad causing basement flooding. Non professional installation.

Mallon Construction replaced a Radon Fan at our house. The part retails for about $140 at the top end and they said labor was about $100 for an hour for labor. Sales tax should be about 7%; in total this should be about $260. The part is just in the line for the vent system which is relatively easy to access so it should not have taken over an hour by any means. They charged us $320. When I talked to the representative about the job he know immediately about the work and when I asked him to break down the extra additional $60 on the bill he could not explain what the cost was. He mentioned "Overhead", "Bookwork" and "Shipping". Any OH should be baked into the cost of the hourly rate and this part is readily available at any home depot or Lowes. read more

Lonnie Mallon is honest and HIGHLY knowledgeable on radon systems and did great work on our house! His work is clean and precise. It was well worth the money! To clarify the one star review review below: When you spoke with the representative: it's clear that you two visualize business procedures a little differently... so it's completely understandable that he couldn't quite explain to you what it meant in your mind. With that being said, it is entirely up to the business owner to bill overhead labor and the labor itself together or not. He did his best breaking down the costs and explaining to you what they meant. For those of you whom don't know what overhead labor is: it means all costs that AREN'T direct labor, direct materials, administrative costs, and marketing costs. The $60 you're talking about would fall under vehicle upkeep, gas, business insurance, car insurance, health insurance, and the like. These are the necessary yet often overlooked costs that are involved with running a company that follows all procedures to make sure things are done correctly and safely! So in my eyes: $60 is a highly appropriate and reasonable cost! $100 for labor highly reasonable as well! Have a wonderful Monday, everyone! read more
