Although my family had tried for so long to get services from the Office of the Aging (since 2021)…read moreand couldn't because they said she "just didn't qualify" when my mom felt she was ready to face this business this past February having been 64.5 yrs-old, she asked for services. They told her that they were accepting her and gave her a rundown to a tune where we could tell that they were about ready to say "What was keeping you so long from joining us?" (although it wasn't directly said, but inferred by tone only.) One of the services she uses from them is their meal deliveries. Although the meals come every weekday (with another box holding weekend meals frozen by about Wednesday or Thursday), the meals have been quite a surprise. Though our menu calendar was never received this April, what's always surprising is their use of wheat bread. Now, we don't eat wheat bread - but they seem to pile on the wheat bread like it's going out of style. We counted about 20-25 slices of wheat bread a week - enough to make bread loaves that we don't eat! We don't want to discourage them from handling these meals, so we've never called them on it, but it's astounding just how dense this location is with this wheat bread. Try to use either rye or white from time to time - or for those who can eat raisins, try cinnamon raisin bread. Meals themselves are meats to a consistency that most of us may or may not recognize, though the milk cartons, eggs, juices, and the like are the best pieces of the meals. We don't generally come to the center - my mom had a stroke in 2020 and has been homebound since, and on top of not having a car or money to travel to the center, this center's calls make things dually necessary - though only sometimes do employees follow through with returning calls. For services rendered - free of charge for seniors - they do come promptly but there's always something with getting them to schedule a visit to help with filling out a form

Did I mention the ebook & audiobook selections are quite comprehensive? Additionally, there is a great selection of books for purchase in the basement, well kept and neat. When my kid was younger, I could pick up copies of the popular books she wanted to read over & over for a fraction of the cost of new. A community garden, free wifi, loaner fishing rod kits, free passes for local attractions, it just keeps going on. Seriously, some of these negative reviews are a decade old. A lot has changed, and the staff are very dedicated to making our tax dollars stretch.

A bit cramped and crowded like most small libraries but it becomes cozy rather than annoying because everything is so well organized. A very pleasant children's section takes a up a large part of the library and like many small, local libraries it feels more like a play room than a place to learn. Cool stuffed animals and colorful posters makes it a relaxing environment. The librarian was not only friendly and knowledgeable but actually gave us a tour of the little library and the town hall connected to the library. The type of person that is perfect for the job of small town librarian. While we were there the library was having a fund raising sale of items donated by local merchants. Bottles of wine, cool hats and other local and things not usually seen in a library filled a shelve near the entrance. Just added to the charm of the library. Certainly not a place to do some serious research or find some rare of unusual book but the Clinton Library is a very cool place to relax, read, look around or talk to some very nice people.

This Singer-Songwriter Showcase focused on A Night of Original Music from NY-based singer-songwriters, and we can only hope the next will be as fun and inspiring. Even Marcel sat up to watch and then closed his eyes and let the music wash over him. Artists who played included Kyle Miller, Ami Madeleine, Lorkin O'Reilly, and Sandrine. Because of a nearby motorcycle rally called Rolling Thunder. Only 12 rooms. Our room was at the end of a very long hallway on the second floor which is where all the rooms were located. We were on the left-hand side which faced the front of the hotel at the rooms on the right hand side where the rooms that have the great view. All of the doors were open as the captain told us he had been preparing the rooms for his guests. My friend and I proceeded to unpack our suitcases and get everything ready for the three days that we would be staying putting our clothes away putting our toiletries into the bathroom etc. When I was done putting my things away I walked across the hallway into the hotel room across from us and looked out the window. I wanted to check out the gorgeous view and it really was gorgeous. All of a sudden I heard a crashing sound coming from my room so I ran back in and I said to my friend what was that and she said it was something in the bathroom. So I looked on my toiletries which I had put into a large Ziploc bag had fallen into the trash can. It was impossible that they would have fallen in the trashcan from where I have placed them so I found it very odd but I just brushed it off. So I decided to go and have a look with my friend who is now done putting her things away at the room that I was looking out the window and across the hall. As we walked out of my room I noticed that the door was closed to the other room. I know for a fact that I did not close it because I ran out of the room when I heard the noise. And I suddenly felt I guess this very strange energy. I suppose it gave me the creeps. And then it happened again... My toiletries ended up in the trashcan!!! I decided I would run downstairs and talk to the captain about where we could purchase some bottled water on the premises since the soda machine was broken. I found him sitting outside having a glass of bourbon and a cigar and he was a super nice guy. So I sat down with him and he offered to give me some free bottled waters which I thought was nice and I asked him point blank if his hotel was haunted. He laughed but only slightly and said I guess you met her. I said yes not exactly but she's messing with my stuff. So he told me the story of a woman that they had found murdered who was a prostitute in the room across from ours. And nobody knew that she was under the bed for a couple of weeks until she started to smell. I felt slightly unhinged as he was telling the story. And I believe that he said it happened in the early 80s. She told me that she wasn't going to hurt us but likes to scare the women that were staying in the hotel. So a few more things happened like she rearranged my bracelets on the dresser and took my girlfriends diamond ring and placed it in a very unusual place- on the window sill. I also felt someone following me down the hallway. But it would stop when I arrived at the top of the staircase. I heard a woman moaning. Yikes The scariest thing that happened was the morning of the day we were going to leave. My girlfriend and I slept in the same bed bc it was the only bed. And I was wearing my earplugs because she snores like a truck driver... L O L. So I could hear nothing. She wakes me up in the morning looking white as a ghost and screams at me to take out my earplugs and asked me did I grab her by her hip and violently shake her to wake her up? I said absolutely not. And then we looked at each other and got dressed real quick without even showering and left... !!!! we knew a few of the people who were staying there and we asked them days after we left if they had experienced anything like that but they told us no. I assumed it was because they were mostly couples and there was a man in the room. Oh yeah and there's a very nice man who is also a ghost who roams around the dining area during breakfast. But he wasn't scary.

Even though I don't attend Bard College, when I went looking for a men's room the other day and…read morefound myself near Bard in waiting for an Uber ride I felt like taking, my first thought was about the Bard Library - Stevenson Library nearby where I was (I was in the dirt parking lot near Kline Commons), this was it. I went in and began perusing. I knew I had to look here; I planned on looking around after, but I had to "go" and although at first I couldn't locate the bathroom until I explored on my own (because no employee realized what I was really looking for at the time - not like anyone cared because most employees were up at the front desk even though there was a tour group walking around the campus), I eventually found it, but it was tricky to find as there's no direct route to the men's room from the front entrance without passing around the tables on the opposite side near the windows. (But, that part of the experience doesn't need to be elaborated on any more.) Eventually, I went looking. I would have thought the Bard Library was small, had I not walked in and perused - but on second thought when I went in, I looked around and thought to myself "sh** there are more books here than there are in the Red Hook and Rhinebeck (Starr) Libraries combined." There seemed to have been additional areas throughout the library including several microfiche reels in the backroom, and although the Sports section struck out at me (having a fond interest in the New York Yankees, and having seen this area next to the bathrooms I used), I took a quick look. I continued looking around for a few more minutes, and ended up coming back up around the fiction section of the library in the back area of the Library (that area is a little poorer in amount of books, but is still awesome for those who don't have much book collections to read from at their disposal I wasn't too pleased that this place doesn't allow non-Bardies take out books, but it's okay. I got a general feel for the library on campus - so I know just where some kids hang out and know a little about the place I visit at times. I would have thought this library would be connected to the MId Hudson Library System and would want to gather people together and bring in more choices to the library and bring adults closer to the students and get more interactions here for the students to get involved and get real-live results going. Little did I know that a few weeks (about two weeks) later, Midterms for the Fall-Winter 2017 semester would be going on and this place was packed (as I heard from an Uber rider who was one of my repeat riders) - glad I went in earlier in October before the "madness" began.

The finally renovation was in 2005 when the existing structure was nearly doubled in size and thoroughly modernized. The library is interesting because of the art that decorates the walls and shelves. Some very cool sculptures of Viking type guys, complete with the traditional two handed axes, are hard to miss. They was also a display of strange masks while we were there and two lovely and old grandfather clocks and the ubiquitous library quilt. The library also has a nice local history and genealogy room and lots of programs and events for both adults and kids. If you are familiar with…read more(or have read about, on their website) the history of this Rhinebeck library, you'll see they've had the opportunity to do that. I normally visit my library in Hyde Park, but they did not have 2 books I wanted to read. Thanks to the Mid-Hudson Library System (Love the Mid-Hudson Library System!), I found both were available at Starr, which was not inconvenient for me as I was going to be in the area that day anyway. The library has a great layout, a nice selection, and it was quite busy even on what you might consider a slow day. They were setting up for an evening community activity too, which shows more community involvement. Besides finding the books, I also browsed their magazine selection. It was smaller than the one for Hyde Park, but it was a nice complement, as it carried a number of magazines not in Hyde Park but which also interested me. I will probably have to visit both now regularly to get my magazine fill. The one very minor qualm I had was that for one of the books I wanted, the Mid-Hudson Library System database listed a Dewey Decimal value for a book with numbers to the right of the decimal point, and the actual book in this library did not include the numbers to the right of the decimal on its label and was sorted thus. That required maybe an extra minute to find the book. That's hardly an issue, though it may mean a little bit extra work for you or a library staff to find a book occasionally.
