Although my family had tried for so long to get services from the Office of the Aging (since 2021)…read moreand couldn't because they said she "just didn't qualify" when my mom felt she was ready to face this business this past February having been 64.5 yrs-old, she asked for services. They told her that they were accepting her and gave her a rundown to a tune where we could tell that they were about ready to say "What was keeping you so long from joining us?" (although it wasn't directly said, but inferred by tone only.) One of the services she uses from them is their meal deliveries. Although the meals come every weekday (with another box holding weekend meals frozen by about Wednesday or Thursday), the meals have been quite a surprise. Though our menu calendar was never received this April, what's always surprising is their use of wheat bread. Now, we don't eat wheat bread - but they seem to pile on the wheat bread like it's going out of style. We counted about 20-25 slices of wheat bread a week - enough to make bread loaves that we don't eat! We don't want to discourage them from handling these meals, so we've never called them on it, but it's astounding just how dense this location is with this wheat bread. Try to use either rye or white from time to time - or for those who can eat raisins, try cinnamon raisin bread. Meals themselves are meats to a consistency that most of us may or may not recognize, though the milk cartons, eggs, juices, and the like are the best pieces of the meals. We don't generally come to the center - my mom had a stroke in 2020 and has been homebound since, and on top of not having a car or money to travel to the center, this center's calls make things dually necessary - though only sometimes do employees follow through with returning calls. For services rendered - free of charge for seniors - they do come promptly but there's always something with getting them to schedule a visit to help with filling out a form

Meadows creeks and…read moreeagles The Clinton Nature Trail is a short but very cool trail located next to the town hall and library. Only about a mile in length, it was the work of eagle scout David Foote and some of his buddies. The trail meanders through the woods until it reaches Little Wappinger Creek and then doubles back. The cool thing about the trail is that the scouts also made a informative map that is available at the start of the trail. Along the trail are markers and you can look on the map to see information pertaining to that particular spot and the different plants and trees are named and identified. A lovely little trail, especially in the fall and winter. A wonderful little place to get a bit of exercise and learn about the local environment.

A very sturdy…read morelighthouse The first lighthouse built in this area was back in 1838. The ship traffic was increasing dramatically as steamboats became more popular and a lighthouse was definitely needed. Unfortunately the wooden structure wasn't up to the massive ice floes and storms that hammer this area and was soon in very poor condition . So a new and much stronger lighthouse was built with stone and reinforced concrete pilings. Over the years the ice once again proved too much for even this stronger light. Parts were removed and brought over to the Bristol lighthouse in Rhode Island and eventually the rest of the second lighthouse was demolished in 1953. In 1915 a third and even stronger lighthouse was built. It had a 4th order Fresnel Lens, a 1,000 pound fog bell and stood over 48 feet high. It served the shipping of the area well for decades. It was automated in 1954 but even this light took a pounding for the storms, cold and massive ice floes and was eventually abandoned and left to the wind, ice and elements. Fortunately a group of lighthouse lovers decided to do something about it and started a restoration project in 1984 and rebuilt and furnished the light and house to it's 1930 look. They certainly did a lovely job and the light is now as in excellent condition. The lighthouse is presently a museum and tours go out there on occasion to give a glimpse of what it was like living in a lighthouse surrounded by water. An impressive lighthouse that will continue to please and educate people for a long, long time.

I used Yelp to look up the police station when I locked myself out of my car. Of course I noticed…read morethey were not well rated, but when I called they were helpful and had an officer on the scene in 10-15 minutes. The officer who arrived couldn't have been nicer and quickly got my car unlocked. My wife and I appreciated that he was there so quickly (it was very cold that day) and that he was quite nice considering that it might be considered a nuisance call to get a shopper into their own locked car. He accepted our thanks, but would not accept anything more. I'm as jaded as the next person and have experienced uncaring cops from time to time, but these guys were helpful, friendly and professional. Thank you, Officer!
