I booked us the 3 hour build-your-own couples spa package and when we arrived, the two very sweet ladies were immediately prepared and expecting us. (Eva? Ena? and Becky) She kindly showed us to our room and began with an exfoliating luscious body scrub, leaving our skin so soft and smooth. Following with a full body hot stone massage, lymphatic draining and then a deep tissue weaved throughout. I waitress and bartend for a living so this helped SO MUCH with neck/shoulder tension and sciatica. My ma fell asleep and was asleep throughout most of it, and awoke feeling refreshed and loose. I took my sister and Mom to Malahini for a 90 minute massage with me and it was heaven! Maggie and the two other massage therapists were amazing at truly relaxing all our muscles and reviving us all with their Swedish massages. Each one of them took such great care of us and used their hands skillfully to loosen every single knot in our bodies! Ummmmmm I have hemmed and hawed about giving Malahini a review as I'm not sure exactly how I feel about my experience. The ladies were all very nice. When they first took me back to the room I was told to get undressed and then lie down on the table. Well that's all fine and dandy but I was just getting a facial and not a massage and this isn't my first rodeo. After some discussion between the presumed owner and another lady it was determined that I merely signed up for a facial therefore I did not to get completely undressed. Whew!!! Another lady came in and introduced herself as Anna and she was going to be doing my facial. Now I get facials more often than your average person and was surprised when Anna didn't tell me what she was doing as she went. "Your skin is sensitive so don't expose it to that much heat" then proceeded to send a very warm steam stream directly into the center of my forehead??? Uhhh ok There was ALOT of lotions and potions slathered onto my face (so much so that I felt the need to continually attempt to wash the products off my face afterwards to no avail). I felt like an oil slick. Any gnat is my vicinity would gotten completely stuck in the layers of lotion on my face. I absolutely hated it. Sorry. There was a massive amount of lotion in my hair which made me feel like a complete grease ball. Also I have never had such painful extractions in my life. I really wish I wasn't in a position to write a negative review but I am doing so or two reasons: I hope the owner of Malahini will get their staff proper training, or at the very least send them to get massages elsewhere so they can understand what a massage is supposed to be, and I hope to save other potential clients from wasting their money until the staff here is properly trained. Now, if you are a fan of massages that consist of elbows in your ribs and excessive oil lightly spread over your back and legs over and over again, this is the place for you. I've given two stars because the two staff members we experienced yesterday are clearly hard workers and seemed to want to make us happy. However, you should know that what is advertised is not what you will get. My wife and I made appointments for one hour massage and a European Facial. Read the website description of the European Facial then let me tell you what we got: one hour of lotion rubbed on our faces. I think there was some sort of mask because something stung for a few minutes. There is no explanation of what they are using, there are no extractions, and the "massage" part of the facial consisted of some rough leg pounding (?), maybe leg hitting is a more accurate term. It didn't feel good or seem to have a therapeutic purpose. The massage was just terrible. I had to ask her to stop the elbows in my ribs because a half hour in and that's all she had done (besides the oil. Oil and oil and more oil.) I asked her to move to my legs and she literally took my left foot and started rubbing one part of that heel. That was very odd. The language barrier was clearly a part of the issue but my wife was on the table next to me and her practitioner had more English so eventually I did get oil rubbed on my legs lightly and no more elbow in the ribs. We paid in cash as requested, including really decent tips for their time and hard work, not for the quality of the service, and as we were paying the practitioner who spoke English asked if we are sisters. No. Are we friends? Well, yes, but that's not the whole story. Why ask? What difference does it make? Certainly we couldn't be the only or first gay couple to patronize their business, but until there are some big changes here they won't see this couple again. read more

Didn't honor free massage after 10 visits. Seemingly pretended to be not understanding. Massaged wrong knee after telling her repeatedly. Spoke with owner, Jean, and originally she apologized and offered a full refund or return for a complimentary visit. Our family had a stellar experience with this spa for years. We figured this was an anomaly. Yet, 11 days later, when I accepted Jean's kind offer for a full refund, and in exchange, she asked me to remove my reviews, she swiftly chose to not honor her refund from the massage occuring 05/13/2023. First time visit, & found them on Yelp with a special deal. You get 1 hr deep tissue full body massage for $65. I arrived on time and was greeted by UN. She was very nice and led me to the clean room, and it was warm too. Overall the massage was great but i'm more used to using hands rather than the elbow and arms to massage my back. Also, she did only 1 min on my feet which was odd. You begin face down and spend %60 time in this position. After about 8 min of rubbing my back on top of a sheet, she removed it and placed warm hot stones in a pile on the base of my back. i usually get the hot stone at the end of massage so this was a nice unexpected feature which worked well. Once i flipped over to my back, she worked on legs , shoulder, neck, & head. She frequently asked if it was too hard and did I like the massage which was nice to interact during my session. Overall, its a nice, clean place with great service but i've had better here in SJ for $40 plus tip. read more

The name sounds great right? A "day spa", sounds fancy and all encompassing of relaxation. Well, it's not. It really isn't. Please take your money elsewhere--like to Costco be buy yourself a massage gun. This would of been cheaper & a better solution to the knots on my back. I have been to numerous spas, and have gotten a number of massages, this has probably been the worst massage I've ever received--halfway into my massage the lady switched out with another worker. I could immediately tell he difffence from the pressure and hands. Fine, but there was no actual set areas done, they kept jumping around my body like a ping pong ball. They used their elbows and arms and who knows what else. Not entirely relaxing. No attention was given to the neck, hands or feet. Also, hot stones and "exclusive" oil were used without our consent and charged $15 extra. We weren't told about this until we had to pay. I get it, COVID has been tough on all of us but this is now how you get or retain customers. Money flushed down? $360 with tip. The ladies were nice but I don't think either of them knew what they were doing. Oh, and let's not talk about the "facial" I was supposed to receive. It was a joke. The steam machine didn't work so they wrapped my face with a towel and called it a day. And with that said, the music also gave out halfway into the massage. So I had to listen to silence. These ladys were fantastic. We came in on a whim.. basically just walked by and decided to see if there were openings. They fit us in right away. Checked our temps and they wore masks the whole time. Absolutely terrible! Mistakenly bought a Groupon for a couples massage before checking on yelp. We figured it's Coronado it can't be too bad- WRONG! The room was bright= no dimmed lights. They played the same song on repeat. The two therapists didn't stop talking, I lifted my head up twice in an attempt to let them know that was rude but nope didn't stop them. Then my boyfriends therapist started burping!!!! So obviously I asked my boyfriend if it was him!? THEY said no, I'm like what the hell! Then my therapist started snapping her finger and not very engaging in her 1 hand that's on my neck so I lifted my head again and our door was open and she was moving a hair clip attached to a robe on the door. That's when I just said I'm done. They didn't understand what I was asking/ saying so I had to literally say "get out so I can get dressed, I'm leaving ". Worst experience EVER. read more

Definitely not the place to go if you are looking for a professional massage experience. First of all I booked a deep tissue couples massage with my boyfriend and no matter how much I requested for the pressure to be harder they wouldn't got harder than a soft Swedish. For me, it was completely pointless. It felt like the woman had no real training and she didn't understand anything I said. If you are going to provide customer service to English speakers, it would be helpful to learn English so communication is possible. During the massage they were directly from massaging my feet to massaging the face, which felt a bit icky. Oh and they full you hair during the massage?!! What in the actual heck. My poodle could have given me a better massage. On top of that, the sheets were stained and the rooms are very outdated. Absolutely tossed $200 down the drain with this place. Imagine being immersed at the edge of an island in a small private oasis of comfort. While looking for a massage place, this one came highly reviewed, and it was quite worth it. We made a reservation over the phone, and it was quite easy to book a massage. When we arrived we had a small wait, however once let in had a great time!! There was very relaxing music, and the massage was comfortable and adjustable (strong and painful, or soft and relaxing); it was a great balance! They used hot stones which was a new experience for me, both interesting and relaxing! There are not enough synonyms to describe a good massage. As long as the experience is good and the price is reasonable, it will be worth it! They get an added bonus for being a solid place on Coronado Island! Will be back here!! read more

We came here this morning for our couples massage. Since it was in Coronado, we thought it was a nice spot to relax. Walking in, our first impression was that the place was really old and the decor was out of date. When you walk in, there is an area to the right where it seems like it is storage with a bunch of junk. They use a curtain to cover the space. The couples room was small and again, the bed cover was old looking. The bed was not covered in a sheet so I assume they use a wipe to clean it. Not my idea of a massage bed especially if you are not clothed. The sheets felt dirty on our bodies. It felt damp and grungy. The sheet that covered you was too small so if it wasn't perfectly centered, part of your body was not covered. My fiancé's massage therapist was Peter? I just know his nickname is PJ. He was very kind and very positive. Great personality. However, his technique of massage was more about "putting positive energy" into you rather than a massage. My fiancé said a lot of his session was breathing and PJ moving in troubled areas with very light touch. He also said that there was one point where PJ just had his hand on him and PJ was either closing his eyes or meditating to bring in "positive energy". My fiancé wanted a massage to get out his knots to relax. He did not get that. As for my message therapist, I don't even know her name because she never introduced herself. She's the Asian (Filipino?) one. My massage was terrible. On the paper they had us fill out, I marked that I wanted to focus on my neck, shoulders, and back. She did not honor that and worked on everything. Lots of head scratching and working on my triceps. At one point, she cupped my ears with her hands for about 2min. What was that about! This massage was not what I was looking for. I asked for more pressure but she just doesn't provide that well. Also, her technique was not relaxing at all. It was very rapid and not soothing. Every part she was working on was quick movements with her hands. Overall, we left very unsatisfied. We have been to many massage places and this is one is on the bottom of our list. Not happy with the massage here at all and will never be back nor recommend it. read more

After a ten hour drive to get to Coronado, my mom was brilliant and purchased us both a 1 1/2 hour most incredible massage and body scrub. Each time we thought it was to end... it kept going. It truly was the most wonderful massage experience we both had. We love to have our massages yet this Malahini Day Spa was exceptional. I had the magical hands of Grace. Laid down on the table and boy was I impressed, Michelle has a very strong but healing touch that not only worked out all the kinks out of my back but left me refreshed and rejuvinated! My friend gifted me a Groupon that was a 60 minute contour body wrap with a 30 minute facial. I booked my appointment with Sammi and some of the process was new to me but she was very nice and beyond professional. It was my first time getting a contour body wrap, she explained the process and began and it was amazing. After being thoroughly wrapped she started the facial process and I was beyond impressed with the products that she used especially what seemed to be a rose or flower type of cold cream towards the end. I would definitely purchase the products next time I return and yes I would definitely come back! Booked here for a couples massage with cupping. We had done cupping before elsewhere and it we enjoyed it but this experience was uncomfortable to the point of pain and we both asked them to remove the cups. While different techniques don't warrant a 1 star review, the lack of acknowledgment to us when we arrived, entered the room, or any question about what we wanted them to work on does. Also, at the end of the massage they left the door WIDE OPEN which had a straight line of site to the waiting room (with 4 people waiting). Finally, when I entered the tip on the payment tablet (they seemed upset we didn't pay cash) she watched me enter the amount and questioned me about it, implying I should tip more. read more
