If you miss MM, you've missed the very reason to come to the bourbon trail. They are so far ahead of the other distilleries when it comes to guest's experience, it's almost a little embarrassing. We did 8 distilleries and 4 tours. We talked about the MM tour for days. If you have limited days to go to the bourbon trail, it's worth committing one of them to MM alone. But the good thing is that there are a few others super close. Well done MM. read more

One of the further distilleries to visit but very well known. Be prepared for winding 2 lane roads . Did the 1 hr tour and tasting. Got to taste 5 different bourbons plus you can wax your own bottle. This is the top end of Kentucky distillery experiences. The grounds are beautiful, the hospitality is warm, and the tour is highly interesting.....plus there's bourbon to drink - what more could a person ask for? Maker's Mark is on the National Historic Register so even if you are not a bourbon drinker, you will enjoy hearing about the history. And, the scenery is great, the grounds are immaculate, and the artwork along the way is beautiful and only enhances the experience. Our tour guide, Christopher, has been with Maker's for 7-plus years and he's got the story down pat, while adding color, humor, and a wealth of knowledge about distilling and bourbon. I particularly like the Maker's 46 product that was part of the tasting, and the barrel strength Maker's we tried was really great. Of course there's the obligatory gift shop where you can purchase some of the "select" products and dip your own bottle of Maker's. And if you are hungry, the Star Hill Provisions restaurant on site offers some nice things for lunch, although it is a bit expensive. Maker's is a bit out of the way, about 30 minutes south of Bardstown - but it is well worth the trip for anyone visiting Kentucky and the Bourbon Trail! read more

Amazing grounds. Bartenders were sweet & great cocktails, knowledgeable and impressive. Taylor was a nice tour guide. But....ZERO compassion at the front Man at the counter seemed to be as angry hearted at they come. No smile. Not all of our party was there yet. My husband is a military veteran and the man half heartedly said hear ya go with a cute patch "Thanks for your service" We explained that our other half was late (nearly forgetting about the time change) as we drove there from TX and my stepdaughter and her husband were driving in from KS. There was alot of unexpected construction which made for way more delays and detours than they planned. But that they were very close. He said there's a grace period and we can catch them up to you in the tour if they are late. He knew their names and was aware as well as other members working there knew to keep a lookout according to Taylor (the tour guide) She & her husband showed up 10 min late but stood in line for 6 min waiting. That man said sorry your a minute past your grace period and wouldn't let them go, no refund, no partial refund, not even the tasting part or complimentary cocktail. Zilch nada Nothing Flat faced, just a jerk like he took pleasure in it. I was furious when they texted us but they were more calm than I was about it so I decided to just not cause a scene. Our younger kids were with us and VERY bummed that they didn't get to catch up to the tour with us since we only see them 2-3 times a year. Huge disappointment And when they text us we were literally right there just down the sidewalk in a building. Anyway plan for traffic but just hope you don't hit unexpected construction and end up late. They do not care. read more

Highly recommend this tour. There is so much to see on the property and so much to learn from the tour guide. I was especially intrigued to hear about Marjorie Samuel. She was a visionary when it came to marketing the brand and taking it to the next level. Apparently, she designed the logo, used to hand calligraphy the labels, was probably the first to do tours for friends/ family back in the 1950's and it was her idea to dip in red wax. Our tour guide was Charles - he was witty and a blast to learn from. This is one of the prettier properties we've been to. Definitely a must see while you're in the area. read more

Every Bourbon Tasting Tour in Kentucky must include Maker's Mark. My husband has been an Ambassador for Makers for many years. His barrel came up for bottling during COVID so we missed out on his Golden Ticket experience. At a Makers event in Bellevue, WA last November, we met Rob Samuels and Dave Kearns, the local Makers Diplomat. I explained that we missed the Golden Ticket experience to hand dip our own bottles because of COVID and they helped us to recreate in September of this year when we were going to be in Kentucky to celebrate my 60th birthday. On my 60th birthday, we recreated the Golden Ticket experience and had the time of our lives. Laura, our tour guide, was such a hoot. I loved her accent. She was super knowledgeable about the history of Makers and the various Bourbons and taught us about the "blowout" when Bourbon tasting. The facilities are beautiful and the staff are all so friendly and welcoming. read more

Maker's is a bourbon that has and always be in our household. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour. I never caught our tour guide's name, but she was sweet, spunky, super knowledgeable Kentuckian, and so much fun! We really enjoyed our tour from beginning to end. It was a warm day, so parts of the tour were outside or walking to place to place was a little uncomfortable. Our tour details do say this so we did dress for warmth. Once we were inside again, most of the buildings felt great. There was so much to learn and see about the developers of Maker's and why they did things the way they did. I loved seeing the beautiful art along the way! Chihuly's ceiling and the gorgeous stained glass in the bottling/labeling/waxing building as well as the painted horses on the grounds. I highly recommend planning to eat at their restaurant. Order the bread! I can't stop thinking about their bread and cocktails. We ate before the tour. Eating after might have been a better choice. The tasting room was fun and packed. Our tour guide lead us through each glass and discussed how they were made and the proof of each. We had a great time and left with great memories and bourbon, of course! read more

Wow! Been drinking Makers for years so while stationed at Fort Knox, I drove the super rural and sometimes one lane roads to get there for the first tour of the morning. Just the drive is an adventure. Tour is amazing and informative. Bespoke drinks at the new bar. Dipping your own bottle is the finale and well worth the purchase of a ticket and the whichever Makers you chose to dip. Hopefully the restaurant opens sometime, drinking on an empty stomach not the best. read more

Trevor was in the check in area early and ready to greet our group. He was extremely knowledgeable about distillery/farms facts and processes. In addition to being able to answer all questions we had, he was personable and welcoming, we greatly enjoyed his stories. The progressive tasting tour in each of the different areas stood out from other tours. It enhanced the experience by tasting the distillate right from the still, 46 in the cellar, and 101 in the art area. Very, very cool. Trevor offered and took professional photos at stops along the way and even obliged when we asked him to get in the pic with us to commemorate our special day. The self sufficient property, beautiful combination of art and science, the best tour guide, and top notch whisky made it truly a one of a kind experience, better than any other distillery visit we've had. Grateful for Trevor's hospitality, he helped us create wonderful memories. If I could rate him higher than 5 stars, I would. 10 stars, 20 stars, give him all the stars! We will definitely be back! I chose 10/10 because every aspect of the tour was amazing. Touring with Tim on "Behind the Bourbon" was like hanging out with a buddy who snuck you in behind the scenes at his dad's company and even let you sneak a taste of the goods. He was very knowledgeable, showed genuine enthusiasm in his work and didn't let the tour feel rushed or generic. The facility and the grounds have great charm and esthetic. The tour finished in the gift shop that refreshingly wasn't a touristy trinket overload but had just enough variety to have something for everyone. This was my second trip to Maker's Mark Distillery with the last being probably 15 years ago. Back then I was impressed with the campus, but the growth is obvious and well-done. It's still a beautiful operation but the tour is leaps and bounds better. We'll be back soon. read more

We drove 40 miles out of our way on the way home to Ohio from Nashville because my late husband was a big fan and I wanted to get a photo. It's a lovely area, very spread out and well-maintained. We parked and walked around, seeking the gift shop. We passed the restaurant, and continued to walk quite a ways to get to the gift shop. :-) I purchased a box of boozy chocolates for my mother to thank her for keeping my pup. read more

We had a really nice day touring the distillery! Unfortunately due to covid we weren't able to see the entire distillery, we missed out on seeing the building with the stills. Either way, the property was beautiful! We learned a lot about the history of Maker's, and the process of how it's made and how it came to be. At the end of the tour there was a tasting and it's always neat to be able to taste the difference in the bourbons. Some of them were pretty strong! We capped off our visit with a delicious bourbon slushy. I would definitely recommend this tour! read more

What a beautiful and pristine distillery. As you walk into the initial building which is a mini museum filled with beautiful and unique pieces, to the grounds and various buildings, you can feel the history. The moment the tour started with our fabulous guide Tim, you could smell the mash cooking. Tim was engaging, funny, and extremely knowledgeable about the history of Makers Mark and the process of making bourbon, the right way! We absolutely enjoyed every aspect of Behind the Bourbon and definitely recommend others to take the extra time and spend a few extra dollars to see the entire tour. The tastings you get are like none other! It was amazing to see the process from start to finish. We even had a chance to learn from one of the staff who makes sure every barrel is intact and ready to age bourbon for well over 6-7 years. It was awesome to see the machines from the 1800's that still make the labels today! And at the end, we were able to purchase bottles and wax the tops! I highly recommend this tour.
