Had a wonderful time this past weekend in Boston visiting cranberry bogs! This was one of my bucket list things to do in the USA. Makepeace Farms was recommended to us by the big company we toured. I just love how they take care and act like family to each other in the area. Very easy to find, great parking, and customer service was great. The inside was very inviting to all. I walked around a bit and looked at all the cranberry goodies and treats. They do have seating once you order has been taken. The line to order was long, but they also only had two employees working at the time. So pack your patience and enjoy. The food was amazing and fairly priced. The Farm was clean and well maintained. Outside had a area set up for weddings. I do recommend if your in the area to visit, our soup and cranberry cookies where so good!

Last fall, one of the things we most regretted missing out on was a cranberry bog experience. Thankfully, I remembered that things booked up fast last year, and I jumped at the first opportunity I found to get a reservation for this year. Their website features lots of cranberry related activities. We decided to do the traditional fall bog tour and education event, and were delighted to find out that they offer a free pass to military members and their dependents. It's so nice to see businesses supporting their local military! When we arrived, we noticed that the place was packed. There were four full sized school busses, and the A-frame outside said the tour was full, as well as the future tours were also already full! What a relief we felt that we had booked our tours already! Inside the farmhouse was a ton of fun stuff to get into. They had educational material about cranberries, local snacks, artisan items like soaps, and bread/ice cream/sandwiches. We waited to check in, and then waited for the busses to load us in for our trek. On the bus, we had two people from the business side of the farm, talk us through the specifics of cranberry life. We learned so much even before we arrived to the bogs. Once at the bogs, we were separated into groups, and each had our own bog to run around. I was fascinated by the sand growing, and the flooding only being during harvest. We learned that AD Makepeace also is the world's largest cranberry grower and has the world's largest cranberry bog- something like 74 acres! Once back to the farm building, we got our hands on some chocolate chip cranberry ice cream which was AMAZING, and were given a goodie bag of craisins to try. We also purchased two pounds of fresh cranberries for home that I can't wait to cook with. Overall a really fun fall experience, and was well worth the time and effort to get there. Excellent and family friendly adventure!

I explained my problem to Joanne and she said bring them in and we'll see if we can help. This was very generous of her since they had been purchased elsewhere. I ended up returning them to Costco instead and stopping at Sand n Surf and bought the same rockers from them for almost the same price, but fully assembled. They had to put them together for me and called me the next day, and said they were ready for pick up. This place appears to be a little hole in the wall that sells all sorts of touristy type goods, but they also do a great business as Polywood retailer. Super nice folks and extremely accommodating.

I wanted a particular design of Adirondack chair that I knew to be more comfortable. While they all look very similar there are differences in both the way the back slats are fanned out as well as how the seat is constructed. I ultimately opted against natural wood because they deteriorate more easily and shouldn't be left outside all year in our New England climate..those would pose a winter storage problem for us too. I learned that Polywood is a good choice in terms of comfort and durability. Unless you want your Adirondack chairs in a natural wood, the Plywood chairs come in a variety of colors which do not fade. We opted for a forest green which fits in nicely with the woodsiness of our property We have other outdoor furniture but I had a specific corner in mind where I envisioned two Adirondack chairs and footstools in a reading or conversation corner in our pool area. Sand 'N" Sun about an hour drive south of us at the mouth of Cape Cod had a great selection of Polywood Adirondack chairs. We were helped over the phone initially by Xerxes, the owner. He was helpful, knowledgeable and pleasant to work with. We had also ordered a very large patio umbrella to replace the one we have used for years over our outdoor dining table. This one is absolutely gigantic and provides greater sunshade over the table. Once we got to the store, everything we had ordered was ready and waiting for us. Xerxes and all the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. In hindsight, I don't know of this store carries Adirondack chair seat cushions or not. They are not entirely necessary but I had ordered some from L.L. Bean and are awaiting their arrival. The pool and patio store is actually part of an entire grouping of businesses all owned by Xerxes and family. So on the same stretch, there is also a huge gift shop....the kind everyone has seen in any tourist or beach town in America. This one was rather large with the usual assortment of t-shirts, sweatshirts, beach towels, hats, magnets, beverage glasses, all emblazoned with Cape Cod logos. There is also a soft-serve ice cream place on site along with an 18-hole miniature golf course. (I just may be the only American who has never played miniature golf and has no interest in doing so). Although it may seem like a random assortment of businesses, everything sold here is of a summer-seasonal nature. We had a pleasant and productive experience with this business. We have a pickup truck so were able to take the chairs and umbrella home with us. I am assuming Sand N Surf will deliver but we did not check out that option.

Stories of war and peace, art history, cinema theory, heroes, bad guys, robots, religious doctrines, dictionaries, sexy handymen, historical chronicles, biographies both famous and infamous, philosophies from other centuries, vampires, scientists, murder, love, tragedy and triumph. Imagine walking those aisles and actually choosing a book to open and review. The smell of the pages, the feel of the story. Ah bliss. There used to be so many. Now, so many have closed. And yet, a BRAND NEW STORE has popped up with such friendly and enthusiastic staff, it's sure to lure folks from their tablets and into the store. After a rather dismal experience at another local bookseller, we bustled through the rain and into Windemere fifteen minutes prior to the store closing. Owner Bill Burnett not only welcomed us as if we were old friends, he told us not to worry about the time - "Have a look around! Need help or a recommendation? Just ask! If I don't have it, I'll order it for you!" What a terrific representative of his small (but expanding into a larger space across the street come October 2017) interesting book haven and gift shop. Bill let us know he hadn't gone into his full social media campaign as the store would be moving but I couldn't let our visit go by without a review. Here we go: -Friendly, knowledgable service. -Good, clearly defined sections from local interest and authors to New York Times best sellers. -Small rooms leading into each other make browsing fluid and effortless. -Eclectic gifts like unique book marks and sculptures that on close inspection are revealed to be funky table fans. -Healthy children's section that doesn't overpower the store. We bought some terrific reads and tried not to overstay our welcome. Plymouth residents and visitors, watch this little store grow and expand. Drop by and support your local book seller! Together we can save print! Too dramatic? OK, go in and buy a book!
