there are plenty of worthwhile charities around, and this is one of them. you probably already…read moreknow that this organization grants a wish to sick children (one every 41 minutes) so i'll just relate my own experiences with this organization. when i was in my early teens, one of my friends became very ill. his parents were made aware of the make a wish foundation and asked my friend what he would like as his wish. he wanted to meet a nyc comedy personality. i don't think it would be appropriate for me to share who it is, and if you keep reading you'll see why. so, not only did the person come and visit my friend in the hospital, he gave him his home telephone number and told him to call whenever. they talked a few more times and found that they both had a similar sense of humor. so then he gave my friend david letterman's home phone number so that he could prank call him. i'll repeat myself: and then he gave my friend david letterman's home phone number so he could prank call him (this is why i'm not going to share the person's name) when you're in your early teens there are few things that are more fun than the prank phone call. but being able to prank call david letterman? it was awesome. he was an *extremely* good sport about it, too. so much so, that when i look back, i'm pretty sure he was in on the whole thing. my friend lived through his illness and all of this cheered my him up tremendously through a difficult and bleak time. here's where i get on my soapbox: if you skip just one meal a week and give the money you would have spent to a charity of your choice, you'll be doing a lot more than most.
