My insurance gave me a short list of dentist in my area and by the best reviews thought I would try River Family Dentistry. I was shocked they could take me right away which made me a little skeptical at first but she explained since I had a toothache they can take me right away so appointment day...I was greeted with a friendly smile and hello I felt at ease the atmosphere of their lobby was nice and clean and It didn't smell like a dentist office my anxiety lessened I was taken in right away and while sitting in that chair I explained my anxiety to the young lady who made me feel at ease we had a nice chat and she explained what would take place and then the doctor showed up she introduced herself as Dr. Ankita Agarwal she was very pleasant and kind understood my anxiety and said she would walk me through step-by-step explaining everything she would do to me then asked if I was ready and asked if she could lean me back now told me to take a deep breath try to relax and started the exam while stopping and asking me if I was OK she made me feel very comfortable and my anxiety lessen more and more as we chatted. Needless to say this was the best experience I had since going to the dentist and almost forgot what I was there for the exam was painless and I made the appointment for a tooth extraction needless to say, my anxiety was back the day of my tooth extraction...again she walked me through the steps, then asked if I was ready I felt a very little pinch for the Novacaine and the tooth was out after only a few minutes... boy did I feel stupid for letting my anxiety get to me. I will be back for my regular cleaning and checkups since I finally found a dentist I trust and takes the time and makes you feel comfortable highly recommend this place.

PLEASE READ THIS IN ITS ENTIRETY. YES I KNOW ITS LONG BUT I PROMISE YOU ITS WORTH IT…read more I have been going to this dental office for several years. Everytime I'm there the staff is friendly, kind, and always willing to help. I recently had to go in for a semi emergency. (Let me explain a little. I have a seizure disorder. During a seizure i clinche my jaws, stiffen up, and shake violently.) During a recent seizure, I broke a molar. The front office got me in. I was seen, spoke with and because of the severity they had me come back the same day to have the procedure done. It was not an easy process. I ended up needing 3 crowns a root canal and extraction. Dr. Gaddis took his time to ensure I was comfortable. His assistant checked on me as well as the young lady who is part of the back office staff. (I'm sorry to you both I'm terrible with names but just know I think your both amazing). Because of the severity I was there for 3 hrs. No one there got frustrated or upset at me because my appointment took that long. I kept them at the office past the closing time, or that during my procedure I had to stop it and get up to use the bathroom. When I was finished they had called in the medication the Dr. had prescribed asked me if I was OK, and as I apologize for keeping them late both of the ladies in the reception area smiled kept telling me it was OK not to worry and to rest. I apologize to Dr. Gaddis as well. Since the last part of my appointment was the extraction. It was not easy by any means. The Dr. never once made me feel like i was holding him up or i was a problem. Once everything was done, i stood up and said to the Dr that tooth was being stubborn. He just smiled and said a little bit but I got it. All the while still having a smile. He gave me some extra gauze and i apologize to him. He also said no dont worry. I scheduled my next appointment. So if you want a dental office thats quaint, kind, helpful, and understanding. This is the place. P.S. I have read the other reviews that were complaining. Let me say this in response to some of the other reviews: 1. Its standard practice for a office to not allow other children in the back office. Especially young child as it can be a problem 2. Temporary crowns are never level with all your other teeth. Hence why it's a temporary crown. 3. I have NEVER ONCE experienced this office not answering the phone. They may answer and place me on hold which is acceptable. 4. I also was a patient that came in at one time and had an "emergency" extraction and was asked to come back THE SAME DAY to deal with some of my dental issues that were the most severe. 5. After dental work yes your mouth will be sore. That's expected! 6. I've had my teeth cleaned and experienced bleeding afterwards. It was due to me not having routine cleaning. The bleeding subsided and all was good. Recommendation get your check ups and cleaning regularly to avoid these issues. 7. Arriving exactly at your appointment time when you have never been seen at the office or it's been a while since you've been there is poor etiquette. Sine you need to fill out paperwork and potentially update your information. ARRIVE 10-15 MINUTES PRIOR TO AVOID ANY ISSUES. 8. After arriving for your appointment and doing all the necessary things, waiting can happen. As you never know if the person or persons prior to you may have need extra things done that were unforseen when they made the appointment. Be patient and you will be seen and treated with the same level of care and respect as the prior patients. DIDNT YOUR MAMA EVER TEACH YOU THAT PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE?? 9. Novacaine and numbing. Dr. Gaddis has never put a shot in my mouth that wasn't need. He also has NEVER AND I REPEAT NEVER PUT A SHOT IN THE WRONG SPOT. If I ever felt any sort of pain he had and has always stopped and put MORE in. As I stated before I have a seizure disorder. Which subsequently results in high anxiety and panic attacks easily. Never once have I had a panic attack or have anxiety become so bad that he was unable to finish my treatment. He explains what's going to happen. i.e sounds and feeling like "ok you're going to hear some cracking and feel some pressure. Its all normal. If at anytime you feel pain tap or raise your hand and I'll stop" 10. Having anxiety is completely normal. You are not alone! But trying advising the office that you have anxiety or if you have medication to help you take that prior to coming and have someone come with you that can drive you so your not driving on those medication as well as that person can be your support person. Hold your hand talk to you etc. 11. The music in the office. Now this is just ridiculous . They dont play music overhead and sure Dr. Gaddis plays music. If you don't like the music have you ever tried having a conversation with him about playing something that would help you stay relaxed? Thank you again to the ENTIRE STAFF AND DR. GADDIS

If you don't read this because it's long, read this: do NOT ignore the 1 star reviews and put hope…read morein this place based off the other reviews like I did. I want to start this off by saying both receptionists were very sweet. One thing I didn't appreciate however was that when I called saying I was having an emergency situation, they did not schedule me for that but for a simple routine appointment. Thus when I got to my appointment Dr. Gaddis did not have enough time scheduled for me to do anything other than have his assistant take my x-rays and "make a game plan". I would also like to add I waited 25 minutes in the waiting room. And I wasn't the only one. I don't know how long the woman before me waited but she waited so long she told the receptionist she was going to be leaving. To which the doctor immediately came out for her. Anyways I explained to him that I couldn't eat or drink (I needed my chipped fillings replaced) and that I was very upset at this. He told me I could come in at 4 (as close to 4 as I could make it) which to me seemed very kind. I now understand he just wanted my insurances money. I arrived at 4:20 to have the problems addressed. He started by not giving me enough numbing. When he went in to drill I jumped out of my chair because I felt everything. He decided to give me more numbing and left the room. When he left I started crying from the pain. He came back shortly after to start again. When he saw me crying he told me that if I needed to I could leave. I should have, but I was desperate to get my teeth done before thanksgiving. I don't believe he was putting the numbing in the right placement. I've never had a dentist put it where he was. He continued to drill. I could STILL feel it. So he did more numbing. (Mind you at this point he's only waiting 5 minutes because he wants to leave). He continued his work while I sat in the chair shaking from my anxiety of experiencing such immense pain. I watched this man literally throw materials behind him instead of cautiously disposing of them. This man never used any water in my mouth. Nothing was rinsed. At the end he told me to bite to see if the teeth were in a good spot, and I couldn't feel if they were because by this time the numbing was kicking in. He just said "well just feel the teeth" and I said "I can't I don't know if it's right" so we just ended our session there. He did not floss to make sure the spacing was correct or anything. I did not receive any after care paper work or mentions on when the numbing would wear off. When I got in my car with my boyfriend I was so numb I couldn't talk. I was having trouble swallowing and I couldn't collect my spit. I had to pour water in my mouth and let it and the saliva fall out of my mouth to clear it. I had to keep my mouth open so I didn't bite my tongue. After 2 1/2 hours I ended up going to the ER where they told me it could take 3-4 hours for the numbing to wear off. The doctor told me my throat wasn't swollen and that I was cleared to go home or could stay and be watched. The next day my jaw was in complete pain from how tense it was due to the numbing situation. It remained in pain for 4 days. I also saw my fillings and saw that the tooth that was the worst (he did 2 teeth for me) and was in the most pain, he did poorly. The tooth wasn't even level. I also can't floss it properly due to the poor spacing with the tooth next to it. The whole time I was experiencing such hardships I was hoping that at least his work would be good. It was not. 2 weeks later now and I have severe pain in the tooth. I am going back to a new dentist to get this properly done. Please do not go here.

My husband and I moved to Sacramento from San Diego and we were worried about finding a GOOD new…read moredentist. The last dentist group we had was substandard and we are lucky to have found a dentist that is close to our home as well as professional. Doctor Nilo Tapang is an OUTSTANDING dentist and his staff reflects the professionalism and courtesy we were hoping for. I made my initial appointment and was immediately greeted by Joanna, who set up the appointment. She answered all of my questions efficiently and if she did not know the answer right away was able to relay the information elsewhere and get back to me right away. This showed me that they will go above and beyond for their clients. Throughout our appointment we would see how well the customer service was from the assistants, hygienists, office managers, and Dr. Tapang. I would have future appointments and today decided to write my comprehensive review. Service is always well executed and very organized. Every appointment so far has made me feel comfortable and I am always greeted politely when I arrive. The office itself is in a small business center, but easy to find from the street (you will see a big sign that says Dentist, next to Mather Pet Hospital). The office is very clean and modern looking, with a high definition television in the waiting area, but even more impressive is the patient rooms which are very high tech. The x-rays are digital and from the staff's explanation, it provides a clearer picture of teeth. In addition to the excellent customer service and professional environment, the staff does not make you feel pressured to get additional services and they are very clear about what to expect on your follow-up appointments. When we first came in, they took a picture of my teeth as well as my husband's and showed the possibilities of whitening and Lumineers. My last dentist did not show this politeness but almost made us feel pressured to get certain services. We immediately left that dentist. I don't like feeling pressured to do anything so it was quite refreshing to know that they want you to consider all options first before deciding on a procedure. But knowing me, I'll more than likely get the Lumineers because they looked amazing in the proposal photo they gave me. Lastly, they have reminders the week before your appointment to confirm. This also gives you opportune time to change your date. If you do need to cancel an appointment, you have to do it at least 24 hours before to prevent incurring a $25 fee for unnoticed cancellations. I believe it is now a $50 fee so make sure to cancel if need be. This is actually a great way to keep appointments because they do have a lot of patients come in and each patient appointment is important and individualized. They base how much staff they need by the appointments because some procedures may take longer than others. With that said, I highly recommend Dr. Nilo Tapang's dental practice. His staff is highly trained, personable and this is reflected in how they treat their patients. Even more so, is that the entire staff is friendly and they make you feel at home. Coming from Southern California and moving into a new neighborhood and new city, it is nice to feel this way.

What should have been a simple cavity filling turned into a frustrating series of visits. During…read morethe first appointment, Dr. Tapang did not use the standard blue bite-check paper and was unusually rough throughout the procedure. He also accidentally got filling material on a neighboring tooth, which caused them to stick together--this was corrected with a great deal of pressure and discomfort. When I expressed that the tooth still felt rough, my concern was brushed off. At the second visit, he finally used the bite-check paper but seemed rushed and dismissive. The tooth continued to hurt afterward. It wasn't until the third visit that he took an X-ray, adjusted the filling properly, and explained things more clearly. Still, instead of acknowledging the earlier issues, he implied that I might be overly sensitive. To make matters worse, the office rescheduled my routine cleaning five times--and my mother's appointments three times--with little apology or consideration for our time. I'm sharing this as a heads-up for others, especially those who are soft spoken or trusting, to advocate for themselves and seek care where they feel respected and heard.
