Fabulous chocolate shop that our tour guide Emma recommended. As soon as you enter you want everything. We grabbed a plastic bag and went around filling it with white, milk, and dark chocolates wth pralines, nuts, fruits, and caramel. We meant to take it home with us but it didn't last too long as we went through half of it on the bus ride back to port. OOPS! We did manage to get a medium sized jar of salted caramel which we haven't tried but I assume it's going to be awesome. I love a great kouign-amann- and this place has a whole bar dedicated to this pastry. But while their kuignettes were good, they certainly weren't great by any stretch of the imagination. read more

Items Selected Duos - Kouign Amann atop Gateaux Breton Kouignette - Original, Almond, Cointreau, Strawberry, Pistachio, Rhum Raisin, Chocolate, Lemon, Salty Caramel Raisin Hazelnut Cookies Caramels, Chocolates, Rochers, Candies Actually visited an evening prior, the proximity to Bordeaux's most famous purveyor of chocolates difficult to resist when playing tourist in the surrounding center city, it was after an early morning run around Pessac that goods from Maison Georges Larnicol were tasted, the high quality of the goods as prominent to taste as the store was glorious to browse. Known predominantly for their chocolates, the house established in several French cities fabricating everything it sells on site, Georges Larnicol shines as a gleaming jewelry box next to the Grand Hotel de Bordeaux and with caramels, truffles, and confections in any number of shapes and sizes the phrase "kid in a candy store" barely summarizes the look on faces of those passing by, let alone those choosing to stop in. Well stocked with servers friendly and fluent in languages ranging at least English, French, Spanish, and Japanese selections at Maison Larnicol run the gamut from baked goods to bon-bons, most items paid in weight and although not inexpensive, price appropriate to ingredients and execution. Suggested to be rewarmed, the instructions on the box easily followed thanks to my host from Airbnb, the tour of Georges Larnicol began with his signature Kouignettes, a one-of-each flavor sampling showing a substantial amount of butter as well as sweetness ooze forth with each bite, the original and pistachio truly outstandng while the fruited versions trended a bit soggy, tasty but lacking a crisp top, Generally not taken by chocolates, though the espresso and salted caramels as well as the candy shellacked eggs were memorable bites, the cookies at Larnicol are of the crisp variety and electing for a stack of "Torchette Nature" the flavor of raisins and hazelnuts were extremely prominent, as too was the amount of sugar in each bite. Tempted by Gateau Breton and Macarons in varying hues, it was eventually in an item noted simply as "Duos" that the €26.45 order would end, and featuring layers of Kouign Amann atop a custard layer of the soft cake from Brittany a "best of both worlds" experience was presented, the tray easily big enough to serve a small family...or one happy traveler slowly picking at it throughout the day. read more

This place looked super fancy underneath the Intercontinental hotel, but prices were not that outrageous. Macarons are small but €0.80 each, €1 each of you get them packaged in a box. I didn't try any, so I'm not sure on the quality, but they looked pretty. They also have brittles, nougat, candies, meringues, and various cookies / sables packaged for gift giving. There's also a good selection of chocolates (self serve). We had some great single origin dark chocolates, but the cost can add up easily as you throw things into bags. Most interesting was the kouginette bar with all kinds of small kouign amann for €1.60 each. The selection sounded good (citron coriander, orange and Cointreau, etc) - I tried an apple salted butter caramel one. Unfortunately, the texture was way off, and it was more like a moist dessert pastry - not flaky or light at all. It's a very pretty shop with lots of good gift items, and I really liked the kouign amann bar concept, but I think with the half life of kouign amanns, storage, and the variable of different flavors, it wasn't exactly what I was looking for. read more

I only ever go here for a warmed up kougin-amann. It is essentially a very buttery pastry and thereby fatty but it is a wonderful treat nonetheless. I love the chocolate one but the original is just as tasty. They also have a number of other sweets such as macarons, chocolate, meringue, and little jars of caramel. Definitely a shop worth going to and trying something new. read more

Macarons, chocolattes, nougat! When you are on a diet, stay far away from this shop! It all looks very tastefull but also beautiful. Especially now, when we are getting closer to Easter, the chocolate is nog just an chocolate egg, it's an art! The prices are a bit high, but then you buy something special. read more

What a great find, and close to my hotel! I was going south to Teyssode to celebrate my friends birthday. I wanted something pretty and delicious to bring for him. This place was perfect. They had a nice selection of macarons either by the box or individually. They also had nice pre-made assortments of chocolates, or you could select your own. I chose a box of macarons and a lovely cone of chocolates as a gift, as well as several pieces of different chocolates for my train ride. The chocolates were all richly flavored, high quality and delicious. I was also offered an espresso drink free of charge! Everything was beautifully arranged and appealing. I highly recommend this shop to treat yourself or someone else to some decadent sweets. read more

I tried a few of the flavors, but nothing beats the original Kouignette flavor. It's my new obsession and I was so happy to see this store had an outlet in Bordeaux. There is so much to choose from in the chocolate section as well. The milk chocolate with toffee chips is the best I've tried in the store. The dark chocolate was good, but the stunner was the milk with toffee for me. You serve yourself in a clear bag and then it is weighed to determine price. The value is good for the quality, but don't walk in thinking you'll pay Mr Bulky prices. read more

Our first stop on a shopping spree through several chocolateries in Bordeaux. Notable about Larnicol is their wide selection of macarons, (which seems very common in Paris, but not so much in the South... says this macaron novice.) so if that's what you're after, you'll have a lot of choices. But we made our way directly to the chocolate bins. They have a nice variety of milk and dark chocolates, in two-inch squares that make it easy to mix and match. We are still working our way through the tasting process, (suspect that will take most of the week) but so far, we really like what we've tasted. Our interactions with the staff were mainly in French, but both employees were friendly and helpful. We will likely put this on our regular circuit for chocolate shopping in Bordeaux! Not the fanciest bon bons, but an excellent resource for pure, unadulterated chocolate! read more

Tasted some of their flavourful macarons. A bit too sweet, but didn't matter that much when they had a strong flavour. IT was 1 € for each macarons. read more
