What a pleasant surprise located just outside of Scranton, Pennsylvania. I was hiking in a state park just to the West of Scranton, and decided to pop over to a winery and see how good it is. Verdict? Pretty good! And when I say pretty good, I mean REALLY good for Pennsylvania. A lot of the wineries in this area basically sell glorified, overly sweet grape juice. Maiolatesi has that if you want it, but I do not want that. I prefer traditional wines, and Maiolatesi has a pretty solid selection! The unoaked Chardonnay was a real nice surprise. The Syrah/Cab Frank blend was solid. But the star of the show was the Sparkling Traminette/ I ended up buying a bottle, it was so good. The service was awesome. The ladies working in the tasting room were so friendly and helpful. The ambiance was nice. It was a bit too chilly to sit out on the deck, but I really wanted to because it was so pretty. We went in the fall and the leaves had turned, so the views off the deck were stunning. Really beautiful area. I don't know if Maiolatesi is worth going out of your way to visit, but if you're in the area it is absolutely worth a stop in. read more

We stopped here for the first time after seeing it featured on a tv spot. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. We got a seat near the window overlooking the mountains where we were able to see the sunset. We ordered flights of wine so we were able to try 10 different wines between the two of us. We selected our 2 favorites to buy bottles to take home. We also had a delicious artisan pizza. Our waitress, Francesca was very attentive. We plan to return and may bring some friends! read more

Decided to go as a family to checkout a local winery. We are from San Antonio and have amazing wine county around us. This place had an amazing story of the journey. Met the owner Sal and he enlightened us. We ate pretty good, the cheese, meat boards were nicely organized. The wine tasting was an adventure instead of a race. Corey did a fine job really explaining and providing us a mapping layout. The wines were very good. I actually enjoyed a sweet blackberry wine when I'm usually a dry wine drinker only. The ambiance was cozy, scenery was awesome. I will say you need to check this place out. The direction the owner was telling us this place will be a destination. Looking forward to coming back. I will say you will not be disappointed at all. This is a must go if you are into wine and cozy spots to relax. read more

I went here with my girlfriend the day after we started dating. We sat outside on the deck and enjoyed the nice weather and good wine. We talked and laughed the evening away and when we were about to leave, a couple stopped us and asked us how long we had been together. Apparently they were betting with each other about it. They were both surprised when we told them one day. One had guessed a few months and the other had guessed over a year. I thought it was charming and cute for them to ask. As we walked out to the car a waitress called out to us and brought us a bottle of wine. Apparently the couple had bought it for us as a gift. They said something about wanting to bless young love. Either way, it was a really memorable moment, and two years later we are still together, but the wine is long gone haha. It was delicious and I think we finished it within the week. Looking back now, I with we would have kept it and saved it for our wedding day. Or at the very least I should have kept the bottle. I can't even remember which bottle it was. Perhaps I should just return and buy every bottle off the menu. read more

Enjoyed birthday #51 with the wife and kids at Maiolatesi Winery. Tge lure was tghe pizza, and our teen boys loved the selection. Pepperoni only son regretted his choice when he saw the rest come out. Favorite- after much trading- was the TAB, bit my Wobble was pretty awesome, as was the Margherita. All were excellent. Size- 10 inch- was a good size for personals. A side of truffle fries and regular fries also disappeared quickly. Wife and I had a glass of cabernet and a glass of chardonnay, and both were pretty good. We are not wine snobs, but it was good to us. Neat atmosphere, good service. Went here to try it as my family went there recently. What a mistake. We got the charcuterie board. It had very little meat and even less crackers. Nothing like last time. Our waitress was rude didn't bring forks threw napkins on our table when we asked for them. She was pale and had big glasses. rude! Never go here!! read more

Great place to visit with a diverse group of friends or family. Everyone will find something they like on the food menu. The food menu is not huge but it offers a choice from both simple staples and sophisticated entrees. The youngest kids in our group liked the Mac and cheese. The adults loved the burrata salad, the home made pasta special, and the salmon special with risotto. We all thought the truffle fries were great. I was surprised to find a great selection of local craft beers. Great if not everyone in your group is crazy about wine. We tasted some fine wine of the classic varieties. Maybe not extraordinary, but certainly enjoyable. There are also sweet wines, which I don't care for but lots of people seem to like them. My boyfriend brought me here on a recent Sunday since he knows what a wino I am (hee hee) and this was one local winery I had yet to visit. We are not from the immediate area (we live about 30 minutes away) but it was easy to find. We wanted to try their wines so we headed to the wine tasting area. You get to try six for $5. We are sweet wine folks, with fruit wine being one of my faves so we stuck to that group of wine. They also offer dry and semi-sweet. I was told the fruit wines here are made with grapes and 100% fruit juice. I enjoyed the Strawberry Cayuga and Elderberry the most. But a pleasant surprise was how much I liked the watermelon wine! All great summertime wines. After our wine tasting we decided to sit down and have something to snack on. We got a carafe of the mimosa's and a charcuterie board with pepperoni, hot sopressata, garlic and herb cheese spread and English cheddar (which has caramelized onions in it). We also received some delicious wine jelly, mini pickles, mustard and sugar coated nuts. The board was huge and delicious! I wasn't a fan of the onion cheese, but that's just my preference. It had an incredible, soft and creamy texture and I'm sure it's a great choice for others. No worries, I would return and just try another cheese as they had a lot to choose from. Sal, who I believe is the owner, came around to all of the tables to check on everyone and see how everything was. He had a very cheery and happy personality and I liked him immediately. I watched as he helped one of his staff clean up a mess on the floor--I love that about an owner of an establishment. I would love to visit this winery again with my girlfriends, especially on a nicer day where we can enjoy the outdoor patio! read more

Came here for pizza night and it was so much fun! Our waitress mixed up our pizza but it was still delicious. We didn't realize the pizzas were more personal sizes but we ordered garlic knots as well and still had enough room for wine! Our waitress was very friendly and had a great pour on every glass. I was here a few days ago and I can't stop thinking about it. My friend and I wine tasted (6 samples for $5) and went out on the balcony for the best view over the mountains. Most of the wine I tried was amazing, I took home a red blend for thanksgiving that was the bomb. If you're into sweet wine, you have to try the concord (I think) one, I about died and went to heaven. Staff is so nice and accommodating. Food is *chef's kiss*. I'll put some pics of what we got. This a great place to come to with family or friends. The views are beautiful and the place was adorable. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, which always makes a difference. They offer wine tasting, wine by the glass, and wine by the bottle. My friends and I ordered a dry white and red. I am not a wine snob, but I have had better. I expected tastier wine, but the food was excellent. We ordered the burrata salad, rice bowls, and truffle fries. Everything was very tasty and fresh. The chef even came out to check on our meals. This is my favorite winery in the area! The staff are extremely kind and the wine and food are both delicious!

For the times we have been able to taste, we have really enjoyed the wines and food here. Being from out of town, we have limited times we can come to this establishment. The last three times we have tried (mainly on weekends), we have been turned away. This latest time, we were turned away because they stop their normal menu at 4 on a Friday (normally 6 every other day), and only serve reservation-only pizzas. While this is a nice idea for locals, it is tough when you're coming in from out of town. It would be wise to keep the events separate and still allow tastings for people that don't think to check online every single time they want to visit. Super disappointing and almost makes us want to find other places that have more consistent and reliable hours. Who would think you wouldn't be able to even taste wines on a Friday of all days?! Friday night pizza is fantastic! Went with two family members and enjoyed a wine tasting to start followed by cheese fondue and three different pizzas that we split. We also bought a bottle of coal miners red to go with dinner. All the food and wine was absolutely delicious. After dinner we stayed to enjoy our wine and ended the night with a great peach wine slushie. They have a wide selection of wine all at a reasonable price. Something to be aware of is Friday nights fill up so a reservation is definitely needed. read more

We decided to revisit Maiolatesi to taste their new wines. We were rewarded with a warm welcome by Sal and Pam and the rest of his crew. Even though we arrived at the same time there was a wedding and a party, they cheerfully and skillfully guided us to the tasting room. Pam offered their selections with clear tasting notes, and though quite busy everyone was friendly as ever. The bar, tables, deck and enameled pizza oven were colorful and inviting. We bought the 2012 Gewurztraminer, which sizzled delightfully. The wood fired pizza menu enticed, although we had to move on. Reservations are requested for Friday evenings. Make one soon and enjoy the golden sunset on their balcony while sipping wine and having a tray with friends. read more

Had the most amazing wedding experience there. Both Pauline and Sal were great with helping navigate around COVID restrictions. Pauline did a fantastic job decorating and organizing and always got back to me quickly with any questions or concerns while planning. Worst service ever. Waited 20 minutes at a table until we got up and ordered our own bottle. 30 minutes later we got up again and asked for a menu, after that we sat for 15 minutes until someone took our order (we asked for charcuterie to go because we had been there so long). Our check came 10 minutes later and no one came to get it so we went inside again to promptly wait for our bill to be cashed out and our to go food which after all that waiting was wrong, will not be returning and will not recommend. read more

Try the wood oven pizza and wine night on Fridays out on the patio during the summer. Make sure to make reservations weeks in advance as they book up that fast! You can buy wine by the glass or bottle and the pizzas are personal pizzas at around $10-12 each. It's fun for a group of people. read more

My father suggested we try this winery when I visiting during a long weekend. I did an internal eye roll while I thought...Really?! I am not sure that a NE PA winery could compare to the CT or LI ones I've visited (saving for the Napa trip)., but I reluctantly agreed. I was pleasantly surprised. The space is absolutely gorgeous. us; the service could have been a bit friendlier though. We were the only ones there on a Friday afternoon.... They had a large variety of wines---a sweet tea, sparkling cranberry, and a raspberry were all lovely. I generally like dry wines, but if a sweet wine is done well, I have no problem loving it....The tasting ended up costing 3 dollars because we bought a few bottles of wine...3 Bucks?!?!? Geesh...I was telling my dad how we had to pay 15 bucks for a tasting at Chamard in CT..... and how I poured out 90 percent of the wine....I know--I know--wine abuse...but it was that bad! So--great space--three buck tasting if you buy a bottle--and good wine...YES! Worth the trip! Who knew parents can actually be smarter than their children? ;) Shhhh..don't tell. read more
