Terrific find in Lincoln City (8/30/24). There's free public parking right off of 17th NW & Hwy…read more101. Nice collection of books of various genres, nicely arranged to catch your attention. Other items for purchase like cards, bags, buttons, stickers, puzzles, art prints, ad naseum. Very welcoming and inclusive indie bookstore. By coincidence the day before while driving out to Cannon Beach from Depoe Bay, I caught an insightful NPR segment on the radio that discussed the history and future of indie bookstores. One of the panelists had their book on the non fiction shelf while at Bob's Beach Books, The Bookshop by Evan Friss.

Checked out Bob's Beach Books while walking along the 101 main road. I wanted to come here during…read moremy last vacation to Lincoln City but they were closed. Visiting them on a day they were open was my chance to see what they had. Unfortunately I couldn't check in here on Yelp because the cell service is not all that great down here, but I have pictures to prove that I visited. They have like every book and book accessory available, used and new. They are neatly organized by genre, which I truly appreciated. I picked up a novel by Michael Thomas Ford and a thumb thing for reading if I'm reading with one hand (whoever invented this thing is very smart and deserves a medal). I also got my mom a gardening journal as a possible Christmas present. My mom loves to garden so I think she'll love this. My boyfriend is a huge fan of Batman and One Piece and got himself some Batman comics and some One Piece manga books. The lady working the counter and who checked out books out was very nice and welcoming. She was also helping out a few people that needed assistance. With bookstores starting to become a thing of the past, Bob's is doing a great job staying in business and I hope they stay open for a very long time.

This brand new bookstore just opened. I was curious, so I checked it out…read more It's all bright and clean and new. The workers seemed friendly and there were quite a few other customers there, within an hour of opening. But it never seemed crowded and remained pretty quiet. Here and there they have chairs and tables, so it could be a nice place to sit down with a book for a while. The rows are not straight, so it was a little hard to navigate the store. There were lots of books, but also lots of other things on sale. Puzzles, toys, records, pop culture gifts, and stationary/journals. They had a whole Harry Potter section with the books, of course, but lots of other Potter paraphernalia, like toys, mugs, etc. The signage over some of the sections was missing letters, I think whatever adhesive they used to affix the letters had issues with the curving surface of the book shelves. This store also had lots of events with authors on their event calendar. The cafe seemed like it had the regular snacks and beverages on offer, but I didn't look too hard at the menu. I don't really buy books much anymore (recovering book hoarder here), but this seems like a good addition to the bookstores in the area. I was a little surprised to hear of a new corporate bookstore opening up, but I see they are covering their bases a bit by selling tons of other gifts (and food) along with books. I bet this place will be packed leading up to the holidays!

Although I am fanatical about giving my trade to independent bookstores, I have regularly purchased…read morehere. It fills a niche in the book market. If a hot book hits the market, the holds at the library will stack up six deep and you have to wait a year to borrow a copy. Also, the library is no longer a reference library, and if you want a classic out of the past, you can find it here. New books are expensive, but that is not this firm's fault. I enjoy getting a coffee and reading my purchase before I leave. The bathrooms need a code for access but employees have been gracious in giving it to me and indeed the behavior of all the employees has been impeccable. I invariably leave in an enhanced mood.

One tip: if there's a title you like check the prices on ALL copies. One book I initially set down…read morebecause the paperback was $20, but checked the hardcover out of curiosity and found it was used (didn't look it) and only cost $13! So you never know. If you're a book lover plan to spend a whole day here, or at least half. The place is obviously massive, but surprisingly well organized and mapped; there are lots of signs making it easy to find what you are looking for. Easily our favorite was the gold room which contained mystery, horror, comics and manga, as well as romance. There are computers around where you can search for specific titles, and staff is helpful with recommendations as well. In terms of the pricing, there are excellent used books. I got a copy that I would have sworn was brand new for $10 off the listed price.

Date of visit: May 11, 2026…read more This place is often listed as one of the best bookstores in the country, if not the world, and I could see why after traversing its many floors and aisles! An emporium of both new and used books (always make sure you check the price sticker on the back before purchasing in case you really need a new version of a book), there is a little bit of everything here. In addition to books, this is a great stop for souvenirs including pins, local snacks, lines, and mugs. If you're short on time, you can kill two birds with one stone here at Powell's. If you're not short on time, seek out a pass for the Rare Book Room and scope out the treasures on display there. Like everywhere else in Portland, bathrooms do have a code, so seek out an employee before looking to use the facilities.
