We stopped by the Lighthouse Museum on a whim and I'm so glad we did. The entry fee was affordable and the museum was very informative. You can walk around at your own pace without feeling rushed. Even if your just driving through Rockport, like us, this is worth the visit if you're interested in learning more about the lighthouses on Maine's coast. You should also be sure to read about the story of lighthouse keeper, Abbie Burgess, it's fascinating.

Small but nice museum for those folks who like lighthouse. I especially enjoyed seeing the different lamps used. Everything can be seen in under an hour. We lingered longer to read more closely. .

I love the ocean and also history. So, a lighthouse museum is squarely in my wheelhouse. The museum is small, but very well done. I've been through a number of lighthouse museums, but this one is the most comprehensive. It has everything from artifacts to large dioramas to supplement the information provided in text and video form throughout the museum. Since lighthouses and the US Coast Guard are so closely connected, there is a wealth of USCG information and memorabilia here as well. Until the USCG museum i New London, CT opens, this may be one of the best collections of CG materials open to the public. Even in the middle of high tourist season, the museum was not crowded. So, we had plenty of time to spend with the exhibits feel rushed. Be warned: this is not a huge museum with lots for small children to see and do. However, for children maybe 10 and up, there is a lot of information to take in.

If you are the least bit into fresnel lenses this place is breathtaking. It's a pretty small and consists of 2 large rooms but they do pack in enough to make the $5 admission worth it. They have on display everything from 2nd to 6th order fresnel lenses as well as a bunch of lighthouse info/items, 3 miniature replicas of lighthouses, and a large collection of coast guard memorabilia. The people here are very friendly and there's always someone in the museum available to answer your questions. The gift shop is also quite nice and has some great gifts for any budget.

This has apparently now been greatly enlarged and is packed with lighthouse memorabilia from Maine's golden age of lighthousing including lots of photos, uniforms, fresnel lamps, small boats and equipment and hero stories, etc. It has an antiquarian feel as it has not yet been professionally organized academically or in a historical fashion. Nevertheless, for $12 you get your money's worth and the docents will answer any questions you may have. And yes, don't let your kids finger everything as this is not an amusement park and these items have historical value.

The museum started as an online museum where it found international popularity for more than 10 years, before its CEO and Founder (an AMAZING woman named Patricia) retired to Maine and turned her passion project into a full-time labor of love with its own physical footprint. The museum is small and is comprised of just one room with various displays and an area with small souvenirs you can purchase to help support the nonprofit and its mission of chronicling and remembering the impact animals have alongside humans throughout naval history. There is ample free parking in the area and entry is free (but there is a box for you to make a cash donation if you're so inclined.) I cant wait to visit again in the future as the museum continues to grow and expand in its new location.

The museum even has a maritime pet ambassador you can learn about and follow along on their sea adventures . Maine Lobster Festival - Concentrating on my technique to crack this 3 lobster dinner

The Festival is located at Rockland's Harbor Park, is easy to find on Main Street. There is FREE parking at South Elementary School (30 Broadway, Rockland, ME) where a free shuttle bus will take you downtown to the Festival. Buses run every 30 minutes or less. Entrance gates are located on Main Street and Park Street. It was sprinkling our first day at the festival therefore the lines were nonexistent; loved it! I was here for the Lobstah but there were quite a lot of food vendors if I wanted to have fish, chicken or pork. A lot of drink options as well, boba, beer, lemonade and plenty of other soft drinks. We purchased the 3 lobster dinner for 85 dollars it came with a corn in the cob, hot drawn butter, slaw, bib, salt, pepper, 1 napkin, 1 wet wipe and a plastic wobbly pick I'm guessing to aid with getting the lobster out of the shell(useless). We also got a Shore dinner for 59, which came with 1 lobster, big steamed clams, corn on the cob, chowder of your choice, they had about 5 different types, we got the haddock, it was chunky and had a lot of flavor. They sell lobster crackers for 8 dollars shaped like a claw but they are also useless without a real handle and once you get butter on them, which it's inevitable, they get slippery and you have the 1 thin paper napkin to work with. Anyway, BYO cracker and napkins; Messy transaction but lots of fun! They have a tent with lots of arts and crafts. Local artists showcase their work and it's all available for purchase. I saw a few ladies selling knitted items and home made jewelry too. So many beautiful things, you're sure to find something for everyone to take home. All people working here are volunteers and they are sweet and friendly. I plan on returning for sure. It was a super chill and fun experience. Loved it!

I expected a larger variety of lobster food items. But there was a tent with hand crafted local items, something I enjoy and a bounce house area for the kids, although a little overpriced. Another take away was the lack of seating areas other than the main food tent, if you did buy food here there were little to no areas to sit and eat or take a break. All in all we had been trying to get to this festival for years, but once was enough.
