The walking paths are well maintained, the signage is informative, and the views overlooking the city are absolutely beautiful. The dinosaur statues themselves, however, were a bit of a surprise. They have a very vintage roadside attraction feel--more like classic 1950s dinosaur sculptures than modern museum-quality exhibits. While that nostalgic charm may appeal to some visitors, they felt noticeably dated compared to the rest of the park. It almost seemed as though most of the investment went into the trails, landscaping, and visitor experience, while the dinosaur statues have remained largely unchanged over the years. Despite that, it's still a worthwhile stop for the scenic overlook and a bit of local history, especially if you're already in the Rapid City area.

Except for the swings, the 11 year old is too tall for everything there. That said, it's a pretty good park for the younger kids and there were many of them there under the watchful eyes of the parents in the area. A couple of shaded picnic tables helped make it more palatable for the adults in our group. While I'd recommend this park, we are unlikely to return simply as a result of age related utility.

We've been traveling from Calif for about six weeks…read moreand wanted a place that was central enough to visit many places (from Badlands to Devils tower) but wasn't right in the city or up in the mountains adding additional travel time to each day of sightseeing. Three Flags was perfect! We planned originally to stay only five days but Vicky (owner) told us about the once a year Buffalo roundup in Custer, the 1880 steam train, and how neat Deadwood is so we extended our stay to almost 2 weeks. We had an absolutely wonderful time! We'd give the campground a 5 but the customer service a 10! Our site was full hookups and pull thru. It was nicely level and wide for our slide outs on both sides! Unlike other campsites that may be level but your literally on top of your neighbor - not so here! Bathrooms were very clean and well kept. We were also able to do our four loads of laundry at once- wow without having to go to a laundromat! Maybe close to I-90 but we were gone everyday and traffic virtually stopped from 10pm until 7am so that was not a problem for us. And as the website says train comes by twice but only during the day, so again no problem. Do look at the website, she gives approx 20 different things to see and do in the We only scratched the surface of things to do so definitely want to come back! Highly recommend this campground - owner is very friendly, available and very helpful! After talking with other campers at the park we totally understand why they come back year after year. We hope to come back ourselves!!!

Hiking the Black Elk Wilderness for 11hrs seemed like a good way to pull off "all of the above" & it was! First: Expect to spend +4hrs hiking just to the summit and back. Additional time for side trails & photography, if applicable. As a diehard shutterbug, it took me almost 5hrs to get to the top. It isn't a race, take in your surroundings. Pack accordingly. It may be warm at the bottom & you end up in snow falling at the top, not too mention the "breeze" whipping. Layers work best & I found myself changing in and out of them. WATER- bring plenty of water, as well as food & sanitary items needed. The only toilets are at the start/end so be prepared to rough it a bit. PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. You will hit a Wilderness registration area and are required to register at that point, in order to continue. I would say it's a moderate trail. Along the way you can expect to encounter some wildlife- we had several deer encounters, nesting birds, chipmunks, squirrels, frogs and whatever else we didn't see! There are some magnificent views of the hills, rock formations & interesting vegetarian - fresh air & friendly faces. Easily among my favorites.

This is a BAIT & SWITCH!! The day I went the alpine slide and chairlift were "closed" but since they promised they would refund that portion of it wasn't up and running by the end of the day I went ahead and purchased the Ultimate Pass. After 4 hours in the park we were ready to leave and slide and chairlift were still closed. Went back for refund only to find sales person was gone and current "manager" would not honor what they were saying earlier. I was staying across the street from this location and noticed after they had closed at 6pm, conveniently the chairlift started moving as employees sat at the bottom hanging out. We only wanted to do the slide and climbing attractions which would have been $70 but like I said we purchased the Ultimate pass for $90. We did have a good time and it was a vacation so I'm not gonna complain too much. The staff here at each attraction was really the only reason I'm adding an extra star. They were awesome and really looked out for everyone's safety and made sure everyone was having a good time. JUST DONT GET SUCKED INTO THEIR BAIT AND SWITCH!!!!!
