This stop was definitely not what we expected, but you can get a great view of the city from the top of this park. The statues are neat, but they are very old and they are more for education than for children to play on. I really liked how accessible the park was and how much information it gave. I would definitely recommend bringing children ages 5 to 8 spend some time here; I think they would really enjoy it. And as I said for adults, there is always that amazing view from up top. There is plenty of parking across the street and there's also a little building that was closed when we arrived, but it looks like they sell drinks and treats during regular business hours. read more

Dinosaur Park is a fun little stop, an especially good place for little ones (and big ones) to run around and stretch their legs. It's atop a hill with wonderful views of the surrounding area. There are mobility ramps as well as stairs to the highest point, so easy for everyone to get to the top. There is a decent amount of parking at the bottom. The gift shop/snack bar is located at the parking lot. LOTS of gift items and the snack bar has the usual hamburgers, fries, hot dogs etc, all at reasonable prices. A hidden gem! You can come for the tacky dinosaur statues. However, you will be fascinated by the stories about how our understanding of what they looked like has grown over the years. And you'll stay because of the breathtaking views of Rapid City and the surrounding area. What a fun free beautiful stop. The drive down and around skyline drive was awesome! We spent the day before this stop at Reptile Gardens (we left a review there too, check it out!) and we were getting hangry! So we saw they had a snack stop at Dinosaur Park and decided to head over eat something smaller and get a little mini hike in to see the dinos. So the area is under construction but there is still plenty of parking for the time of year we were here, end of summer, beginning of fall. They are making some needed updates so that is exciting to see in the future! The park is free. The snack shop/ice cream has a cost. We all enjoyed hotdog specials and a couple corn dogs and let me just say, it was nice that our family of 8 ate for $34! Food was good for a quick thing. The walk is directly across the street so we went and did that and enjoyed those 100 mile views a lot. It was an easy light short hike that the grandparents and the baby and kids could make without being exhausted. Definitely good for all ages. We went back and enjoyed their ice cream and shopped a little in their great gift shop. I was so impressed with their selection of fair priced souvenirs, especially the shirts! I grabbed a cute one for myself for 12.99! It isn't going to fall apart either, it was the same quality and the same shirt i actually found for $27 at another larger tourist site. So my recommendation is to go to the gift shop and grab you some treasures here or else you are going to spend twice as much elsewhere! We visited so many places and this was one stop we really thought was perfect and of our day relaxing stop. Not to mention the sweet ladies inside were so kind and amazingly patient with our large crew! *end note: bathrooms were great. Clean! The place is very well kept up! read more

I mean it's "free" so that's pretty cool. The dinosaur statues are located at the top of a scenic hill offering scenic views for miles in multiple directions. There's only a few statues, but the park is more about the view. There's a nice gift shop at the base of the hill. I'll go back to this as a fun spot to visit with the littles with the sweet admission price of "free". read more

The park is beautiful. Has a scenic view overlooking the city. There is a visitors center right across the street where you can hang out. They have a patio area in the back and benches out front where you can sit. Parking here is pretty simple. There is a lot at the welcome center and a cross with with a stop sign to help get you across the street to the park. The park has some steep stairs, so you have to be able to navigate stairs to get up there. It is also compact. You can cover the entire park in less than 5 minutes. This is another free attraction in Rapid City, so you can't go wrong there. Plus one of the few attractions that are open during the infamous off season. The dinosaurs are a bit dated and could probably use a little TLC, but are still entertaining. It is open late and not only has a breathtaking view, it is a good workout too. I spent about 15 to 20 minutes here and was glad that I made the stop read more

A cute little place created back in the 1930's. I love the whimsical statues and beautiful views. I was there prior to the visitor center opening, but the park was open. It was a clean place and had clearly been well loved. Did I mention it's free! There is also free parking. read more

Was a fun experience with a great gift shop that has a lot of dinosaur related things as well as gemstones. You can also get some ice cream there as well! Currently the stairwell up to the dinosaurs is closed for renovations but once you get up there there is 4 dinosaurs you can see, the view is amazing though and overlooks rapid city read more

Beautiful day at the dinosaur park. It's a super basic park but a small hike up the hill through many of steps allows you to basically see all of Rapid City. It allows for some awesome panorama photos of the City. My three kiddos enjoyed seeing the dinosaur exhibits and climbing on some of them as well. You can literally see very far east toward Box Elder as well as West and the hills. We were not able to see the museum since it was closed for the season--opening May 1. We will definitely be back to see the museum when it opens again. They also do have a trolly that runs seasonally over the summer that you can stop at. The road leading up to dinosaur park is worth the drive as well. It should probably be a monument in of itself. Parking is pretty easy at the visitor center and there are plenty of trails leading off and about the area that you can hike on. read more

The Depression Era dinosaur park! Some are still recognizable, but they're also happy fun. The winding road up to the museum had some neat city views, but it didn't seem like a place to stop the car. The back porch of the museum had some nice views. There were a lot of steps to get up to the dinosaurs that were up the hill. They're built pretty sturdily built and kids were climbing all over them. There were Pokemon Go pokestops and gyms! read more

Cute park but not much there. If you want to see some of the city from up the hill it's worth the short drive. The dinosaurs up there have been there since the 1930s - go read your history and maybe that would make it more interesting as the little building connected to the park wasn't open, not sure if it will be open at any time. You can take your dog up the step stairs to get up to see the dino's and their are paths to walk off from the cemented walkway. Be careful as it could be icey up there. read more

Great place to go see the surrounding area. Our kids enjoyed looking at the dinosaurs, but they REALLY enjoyed climbing around on the rock areas. It was a little cold, but that to be expected in early May in South Dakota. Free is the best part of this place. Parking was easy. read more

This was a total adventure! My boyfriend and I went to rapid city to visit Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse but were completely fascinated by this giant dinosaur we could see from our hotel room. It was up on a hill and so out of place but we needed to know! On the way back from MR we saw a sign that said Dinosaur park, exchanged the glance "let's go!", and turned on to the scariest road ever. For what seemed like twenty minutes, we drove through houses on basically a mountain top. Winding around all the trees, we honestly thought we were lost until FINALLY we reached this parking lot and saw the sign. This was the strangest thing we did on our whole trip. The dinosaurs were massive and made of concrete with green paint chipping off. These things had to be ancient and there were only 7 of them. Fun, free place to visit while in Rapid City to feel like a kid and play out your inner Pee Wee's Big Adventures and have both great photo ops and vantage points of the city from different sides. It's a slight climb to the top but nothing strenuous and the dinosaurs and kitschy and charming. I really was glad to have stopped by here. I'm not sure if you're allowed to climb on them, but we did take some awesome pictures. I did go in the gift shop and thought it was cute. Touristy= definitely. If you're going to Rapid City with children then you must add this to your list of places to visit. For starters it's free. Also, it's easy to find. You can see the dinosaurs on top of the hill from almost any part of town. There's a nice gift shop by the parking lot that has hot dogs, sodas, and ice cream. We always stop in there after we're done. When you get there you have to hike up at least 60 stairs. At this time there is no ramp for handicap accessibility. So that's kind of a bummer but I hear they're going to work on that this winter. Once you're up by the dinosaurs you can walk around them, stand in front of them, or climb on top of them. I'm not sure if you're really supposed to do that but everyone does. The view from the top of the hill is spectacular. You can look all the way out to Ellsworth Air Force Base to the east & to the west are the Black Hills. On some week days you can see The B-1 bombers practicing taking off and landing. There are lots of things to do after you visit Mount Rushmore and this should be one of them. read more
