This might be my first canal review. The Cape Cod Canal is around seven miles long and transects…read morethe neck of Cape Cod. Two roadway bridges and one railroad bridge cross the canal, ensuring that people headed out to Falmouth and Provincetown can get there easily (or you can take a ferry/MBTA boat from Boston). The first attempts to build the canal did not take place until the late 19th century but they did not begin excavation until 1880 but that effort failed. The final start was underway in 1909 and completed in 1916, with a final push by the US Army Corps of Engineers widening it to 480 feet in 1940. The canal has service roads on both sides with access for fishing. It's completely level and ideal for skating, biking or just having a really nice walk along the canal. Walked a hundred miles to get here…read more Ok, not really. But GREAT POINT LIGHTHOUSE is at the very tip of the peninsula and is in the midst of Nantucket Wildlife Refuge. To get there, first, you have to make sure you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle. Then you have to deflate your tires at a checkpoint before you enter the Nantucket Wildlife Refuge. At the same checkpoint, you have to pay $50 to the Massachusetts Trustees to get on the road leading to GREAT POINT LIGHTHOUSE. I'm not quite sure how they decide who to pull over or not. There were some people that had the same tags as our vehicles that got past the checkpoint without stopping and we saw them at the beach later on... Anyway... You drive on an unpaved road for a few miles. Then you drive on the beach for a couple of miles or so. Then you have to park on the beach and walk about a mile or so to reach GREAT POINT LIGHTHOUSE.

So there is no restaurant or professional entertainment. But you can chat with a seal up close or…read morejust watch the heard as they watch you and bark. An awesome very remote place. Saw no other people or cars or anything all day. Saw about 200 seals and double that many birds. The lighthouse is beautiful and the area is just a great natural haven. Highly recommended but make sure you know how to drive in sand.

Sarah and Mary…read more Way back in about 1850 two young girls named Sarah and Mary decided that their little town of Brewster needed a library and instead of just whining and complaining they did something about it. They got together some other girls and started working various odd jobs to get money together for the library. The girls bought, borrowed and got people to donate books and in the early part of 1853 "The Girls' Library" was opened in a bookcase of a local house. A membership fee of one dollar was charged to take books out and the little library thrived and grew. Finally in 1868 a real library was built and an addition was quickly added in 1877 to accommodate the growing collection of books. In 1879 the name was officially changed to "The Brewster Ladies' Library". In spite of the name members of the opposite sex were also allowed in the library. Other additions were added in 1977 and 1997 and were carefully planned to be in the same cool colors and style of the original. The library today is stunning, beautiful, fascinating and very, very cool. Just so many great old photos and things to look at. It's easy to lose track of time in a place like this. A very nice and knowledgeable volunteer gave us a wonderful tour of the library and filled us with more facts, figures and history that I could possibly remember. An amazing library that has grown a whole lot over the decades but in a way hasn't changed one bit. An absolutely wonderful testimony to a dream that two young girls named Sarah and Mary had so many, many years ago.

I feel like the kids have more books than the rest of the library itself! I bring my niece here every Thursday and literally spend 2-3 hrs putzing around. They always have a table set up with some sort of craft du jour for the tykes and tons of toys, puzzles, games, etc to keep them buzzing for hours. Love it!! The staff are super friendly and smiley. No crotchety old women here. Well I mean older women...yes, crotchety...no. And a major plus, the kids part is separate from the rest of the library, sooo...no one shushing the kids or giving us adults the hairy eyeball! Again, love it!! The rest of the library is pretty standard. Computer room, young adult area, massive amounts of adult lit., reading area, etc. It's worth the trip for sure. Definitely the coolest library in the area. Did I really just say that?! Oh and disregard the "Ladies" part, not sure where the name came from. Men are more than welcome!

The library itself looks historic & matches the area well. There are parking stalls along the right side of the building. Once inside the library you will see rich wood everywhere! Four computers with a printer available at 15 cents a sheet. The staff and the patrons were so kind and helpful. Comfortable seating to relax and read. The grandfather clock also sets this library apart. It does announce the time and shows itself off. If you need something printed this is the library that is worth a quick stop. GO RED SOX!!!!

Ok so why am I rating a bridge again? It's because Yelp wanted mt to rate the Sagamore bridge first…read morewhich I thought weird but ok I did. As far as the Bourne bridge is concerned it's the bridge you want to go over if your going to the Falmouth area rather than taking the Sagamore bridge to head to Hyannis and Yarmouth and even down to Provincetown. Now in my opinion it looks identical to the Sagamore bridge and was built in the 1930s like the Sagamore which might be the reason. Either way people enjoy your bridges!!
