After a disaster at Refuge for men I headed here a week later. Based on recommendations I made an appointment with Jerry. What a character. Totally winning personality. He makes you feel special and really listens to you. That being said, with 40 years of experience, he isn't afraid to give his opinion which is great. He ended up offering me a delicious cup of coffee from a place nearby. The cut was flawless. Excellent attention to detail. It was exactly what I wanted. Used a straight razor to finish the back and shaved my neck and trimmed my eyebrows (old man eyebrows). This will be my go to place. Also, unlike high point, you don't have to wait a month for an appointment. They typically have openings within a day or so. read more

Cute place, over priced but I feel like everything is these days. I think we paid 40$ for a kid cut & he didn't even get a hot towel... meh... the barber didn't engage in conversation with him either. read more

Great barber!! Really came through in a pinch as a walk in. We appreciated the quick and friendly service to help my fiancé get ready for a last minute special event. Definitely set an appointment if you can, but the service and quality for price is fair and he looked handsome with the fresh cut. Thanks again for fitting us in! read more

I have relocated over the last 12 years and I would have to say the hardest part was not the move, not the places I lived in but finding the Barber. Trust me in saying that I have gone to Main Street and every switch due to the Barber having to relocate themselves not because if this place Main Street has not missed a beat with me. Third time here is a Charm so was the first and second time. Great place with great people. read more

Main Street Barber - My latest haircut. - Barbers Near Me - Richmond, Virginia

This rating is for the poor customer service that i got from the owner. Three years of coming to this place and she cannot remember my face or name. She just never was welcoming to me. Coupled with her antiquated paper reservations system - which lead to mishap: called in to get a shave, beard trim and haircut. I showed up they had paired with a barber that cannot do all those things. Then, the owner comes over to me in the chair and says "in the future when u call in u need to be clear on what you want" right in front of the crowd waiting- embarrassed the heck out of me - i said "in the future maybe you pay attention to what you're doing so don't make mistakes on your lil note pad" So I liked my barber but can't f'n stand the owner. I tried but hated it, and now I go to High Point. read more

Tareek does a great job, my wife will not let me have anyone else trim my beard, nice place

Good vibe. Friendly people. Good price. I have sat in the seat for all their barbers and barberettes. All first class. read more

Nightmare. Unacceptable. Terrible customer service, complete lack of timeliness, and general incompetence. Worst barber experience and haircut I have ever received in my life. I went in one day for a shape-up. I called ahead to make sure they would be able to take me. Due to unposted hours for the day, they were closing in 15 minutes. They said to come anyway. I was the first in line when I got there. My wait ended up being over 1 hour. They accepted another customer who was an hour late for his appointment after me. Then they closed up the shop and cleaned up, with two barbers closing shop right in front of me. A touch up is something that I could have done myself with an electric razor and a mirror, but I was traveling. When I sat in the chair and told him I was getting a shape up he said okay and was very diligent about it, using the trimmers and multiple guards. It was taking quite a while and then he started to cut my hair on top. I told him I was confused because their sign said "Shape up -- $10, ears and neck only." He acted surprised and I guess he had completely zoned out and thought he was giving a haircut. He said he would charge me for a shape up, and stopped cutting my hair immediately, leaving it mishapen and uneven. When I went to check our he had charged me $15 and I had to correct them and point to their own sign. They argued with me at first and I had to ask them to please look at their own sign. They reduced it to $10 and I left. I would recommend that instead of this shop, you go to literally any other shop or use a pair of office scissors and do it yourself. It will look the same and will save you $10. read more

Great place to get a haircut in RVA! Staff is personable and can give a great haircut. Great shop, keep the gents looking good. Still don't understand the dudes with the man bun? Cheers! read more

Main Street Barber - Fresh cut - Barbers Near Me - Richmond, Virginia

Best barbershop in RVA, hands down. Great staff, great cuts and great conversations.

A class act.. Never have I felt such southern hospitality as I did upon entry into this small modern shop, with old fashioned accents. The shop is in a residential area, where at 11:30, plenty of street parking was to be had. Service 10/5 stars. Wow. When we walked in, we were greeted by the whole team. I was asked if I was indeed Seth, and seated in Charlie's chair immediately, where he had been waiting. My gf and I were offered complimentary, local coffee... excellent. I was feeling ill and was treated to a cold towel for my forehead, a shot of an old time (apple cider vinegar-based) cold remedy. MMMmm-ish. I also got a mid-way hair washing to clean up and cool down. Great conversation with the NY-expat Charlie.. Hip and stylish dude. The Cut: 5/5 I didn't see the cut happen, just the result, as I was facing the center of the shop, but the result did not disappoint. Very clean, mostly scissored, and well blended.. Came in with a mop past my nose, and left with a clean, tight style, exactly the way I described. Charlie knew what I wanted and delivered, The price: 5/5... I know I come from a different economic area of the country.. but 20$ is not an expensive cut. I'd shell out 45 to have this cut at home, and still be happy. Quick too.. in and out in 30 or 40 minutes, and never felt as though he was rushing. HIGHLY recommend these guys based on my visit.. Should be easy enough to snag a walk-in appointment, but I think a call is courteous. Thanks Charlie... will stop by during the next RVA stay! read more

Both experiences at MSB&M have been great! My husband grew a beard in for no shave November and we stopped by at the end of the month to have it removed. What an awesome experience that was! But make an appointment because it is a process; a royalty experience! We went back a second time so that hubby and son could both get hair cuts and they both loved them. Everyone there made us feel welcomed and is was exactly as I imagined the old time barbers shops to be; everyone chiming in on one big conversation. Thanks for being awesome. We will be back! read more

What a fantastic barber shop. Very clean, organized, classic feel. I was a walk-up customer after trying some other barber shops in the town, and I will only be returning to Main Street Barber. After giving Jerry a brief description of what I wanted done with my hair, he went to town and gave me the best haircut I've ever had. Hands down. I've never been so impressed with the quality of service and the end result. At the end of the cut, Jerry made sure that I was 100% satisfied, and told me that if a few days down the road it didn't look right for whatever reason to stop back in and he would fix it. Outstanding. read more

I was visiting from out of town, and needed place to get my hair cut, since the pixie cut I had was starting to grow out too much. I normally go to barber shops rather than salons, because barbers understand how to cut short hair better than anyone. I looked for a barber shop in Richmond, and found Main Street Barber and Mercantile on yelp.com. I felt welcome right away, and was offered a mug for the coffee I was holding, which was definitely a great touch, in my book. Charlie understood immediately what kind of haircut I wanted. It looked great and very Hepburn-esque, and the price was very reasonable. I also had a great time chatting with him and everyone there. As if all of this weren't enough, I was also offered a slice of watermelon(!) I wish every barber shop did that. I would recommend Main Street Barber and Mercantile to anyone, and will definitely be coming back when I'm in Richmond again. :) read more

Natalie is excellent. I've only have wonderful cuts, great beard cuts, and good service. Price is right. Call ahead as appointments fill up fast but I highly recommend Main Street Barber! read more

I have been coming here since the time they opened. The price has gone up slightly over time, but the price is still reasonable, the comradery is enjoyable and the haircuts are always on point. I generally use whoever is available and have always had a good experience. This is a great local business which I highly recommend you support. read more

My best review is that Main st is not convenient for me. I have to my way out of Westham to get there. It is also not necessary designed for me. As an edgy 50, I am still 50 and not living in the fan. Its a little slow. They accept walk-ins, but their staff can be a appointed up for. Notable period of time. In 50 yrs, I have never made a "hair appt", but I found myself today seeing if there was an appt online to make an appointment (which BTW i couldnt find...). The atmosphere is chill, the team is seasoned, their cuts are classic and forward. Finally it is against my best interest to tell you I am slightly addicted to this place. read more

A barbershop that will make those who lack hair jealous. Stumbled upon this place about two months ago as it is a block from my house--- Best stumbling I have ever done. Just returned from my second haircut (both by Sheila) which is equally as good if not better than the first one (which I had already deemed the best my hair had looked in my life.) If you are looking for a place that will make you look your best, this is it. I wish I could give them a few more stars than five. HIGHLY recommend. read more

I've gotten 4 great haircuts here so far. I appreciate the friendly but smart Rva atmosphere. All barbers stay in a good mood. The hot towels & hot foam at the end are a great touch. They whirl me around at the end in the mirror & I look better then I thought I would. read more

Super friendly, classic, great vibe!! Went in for a cut and Sheila provided great service and styling to my overgrown mess. Very happy with their shop and service. Great price! Five stars! read more

I left Michigan for 2 weeks of vacation and was in such a rush to get out the door that I didn't take the time to get a haircut. I hate to go to new barbers, not because I need my hair "just so." I mean, I ask for Navy regulation! The thing about new barbers is, I fear I just can't find the regular "neighborhood" barber experience on the first try in a strange town. So I go into "Main Street" and found just what I wanted: a good haircut and friendly banter between people who obviously like working together. He did a great job (Jerry) on my hair too. I am told by his coworker that he's a "master barber" (whatever that means). If that is something good in barber jargon, I would have to agree. read more

My fiancé and I recently moved to Michigan yet he times out his haircuts for when he's back in Richmond for work monthly. He hasn't found a single barber anywhere else he loves as much as Main Street. The entire staff is always friendly and goes above and beyond to please each and every customer. We love Main Street and always will! (Even if we have to drive 13.5 hours for a haircut). read more

Amazing service. Everyone there was extremely friendly and approachable. Chris gave me the best cut I've had in a long time, and at a very great price! Highly recommend for girls with short hair who don't want to pay $60+ for a cut at a salon! read more

So this visit was not the best. Had photo of what I wanted and did not get the desired results. However the fab work is brilliant, the best I have ever had. Sad part the top of my hair looks like a comb over read more

I had Charlie. Very perceptive. Excellent haircut. Quick. Shop is clean and staff is friendly. They have free coffee. Overall excellent experience. Accepts credit cards. Takes walk-ins. My new favorite barber. read more

By far the best and friendliest barber shop I've found in Richmond. I tried it out a little over a year ago, and it's been my regular ever since. I like the hometown feel of the place, and the haircuts are first rate. Pricing is pretty decent too. Really happy with them. read more

Best fades around, supportive of the Military. Don't get your hair cut around Ft Lee, make the drive here and it will be worth it. Straight razor skin fades are better here than anywhere else in the area. I go every other Saturday and the crew is incredibly friendly and upbeat. Even stayed late one day to cut my hair specifically. Five stars. read more

Solid barbershop/ haircutter. Nothing too fancy but solid haircuts. Friendly staff. Easy to make an appointment. Highly recommend

Another killer visit to MSB&M. Jerry is a master at his craft. This was my first return visit after a month and he recalled me and remembered exactly the haircut I wanted. He also backs his work. When have you heard a barber say, if you don't like it, come back in and I'll fix it. That's admirable. The entire team at MSB&M is super nice and friendly. It was great to walk in on a Saturday AM, sit down, have a cup of coffee and a chat with other clients and staff. No pressure, nothing fancy... it's great to socialize with folks in a chill atmosphere. You really cannot ask for much more in a barbershop. This isn't a salon and shouldn't be... it's a righteous barber shop. read more

I've been coming to Main Street since the week they opened. I've had haircuts from every single one of their staff, and I've never left disappointed. Walk-ins are rarely a problem, but I've learned that it's better to call that morning if you're in a hurry or want someone specific. It's the barber shop experience I remember from being a kid. Just a row of friendly barbers, a row of chairs to wait in, a good cup of coffee and good conversation. read more

Simple no frills shave and haircut joint. I go in to see Charlie every two weeks. The man is an artist and never disappoints. Takes his time and makes sure you're satisfied before letting you out of his chair. I won't go anywhere else or to anyone else as long as I live in Richmond! read more

This place is fantastic! The atmosphere is great and there is always good music playing. You're guaranteed to be greeted by all the barbers when you walk in the door. I've gotten my haircut several times since they opened up earlier this year. Jerry is hands down awesome. This is a legit barber shop with a cool vibe and friendly service. There are few legit barber shops in Richmond apart from the chain places, and most seem pretty good, but I find myself always going back to Main Street. read more

Chris hooks it up!! Creative and cool, and not expensive. Overall a stellar experience.

Bottom line up front is that this is a great barbershop. I've walked out after every visit with a great hair cut and my beard looking somehow reputable again. Pretension free and professional barber stylists. read more
