If you want your small children to nap, then have them walk up the steps to the slides a dozen times. There is a nice variety of playground equipment for all ages including swings, a 3 person seesaw, spinning/ climbing thing, etc. All the equipment has a castle theme which is super cute. I love that the entire playground is fenced in with fences high enough that young kids definitely cannot get over. The fencing around the steps/ platforms for the slides is also super safe to prevent falls. I feel totally comfortable letting my kids walk up and slide down by themselves while I wait at the bottom. Bathrooms nearby are better than most playgrounds. The only downside is that there isn't a lot of shade. Some benches are shaded but none of the playground equipment is shaded so you feel like you're baking on a hot day. There are covered benches at the entrance of the playground for parents. But your kids will have so much fun that they'll barely notice how hot they are.

We were talking to other vendors, apparently its $80 ?!???? for a spot that looked very very small, greedy priced. To get a spot at JAKES FLEA MARKET is only $12 for 1 day AND they give you a table ! I saw one of the lemonade stand people, A HUGE lady was smoking a cigarette and didn't wash there hands after smoking and returning to cut the lemons, GROSS, DISGUSTING, That is not an example of how to run a beverage business, YET I bet they want other venders to follow the rules when THEY DON'T. When I saw that I threw our cup away. The water tasted to me like spicket water with a funny after taste like pottstown water, not even purified water that has been treated to drink. Just seemed to be the lazy way of making lemonade. Just BLAH. The tasting cards made zero sense, seemed like another way to make people to spend cash on something they didn't need to spend cash on, that was a ridiculous idea and I seen it limited alot of people. They have no common courtesy, nor do they have any sense for rules of boating. They seem to roam in packs and have no consideration for other than themselves! The other issue is the location of handicapped parking. The only parking place is designated for handicapped parking are located quite a distance from the docking area, and it makes it hard to get close without being dropped off and then going back to get the car later. There are however, handicap spaces marked for trucks or cars with trailers, which are located very close to the docking area, but none designated for just vehicles with handicapped placards.

Swimming is one of the most popular activities, but one can only do it while lifeguards are on duty. On the beach, visitors can enjoy access to play equipment for children, a food and refreshment stand, and a beach pavilion. However, as parking can be limited in Jim Thorpe on weekends, one could arrive early to secure a spot; otherwise, use one of the pre-paid reserved parkings at $26, including the parking fee and 2 round-trip tickets every Saturday and Sunday throughout October. A shuttle bus begins from this park at 10 a.m. and runs every 10-15 minutes to the Opera House, which my partner, his aunt and I did last Saturday while attending their popular Fall Foliage Festival.

The major negatives: the gentleman at the front desk, when asked a simple question about unchaining a table, basically blew me off and even though we'd been told it wouldn't be a problem, said it wouldn't happen. The showers have zero privacy when one is dressing. They have an alcove, but a 2nd curtain or door would be good. Overall a decent experience, but an experience that would likely be better elsewhere.

The kids really enjoy running around and playing on the different playground structures, including the spinning jungle gym thing and the huge swing! In addition to that great playground, they also have a nice long trail to walk around the whole park, lots of open space to use otherwise (I've seen people playing volleyball before), other sports courts such as basketball right near the playground, and one of my favorites, the fitness court! That's a great place to do some exercises that I've sometimes seen folks do on a playground, but this one is customized for exercise. Weather's still not fully there yet, but I may get back out there soon to use that equipment again!

Why? To me, the lake is big enough to give you some interesting things to see and explore, but not too big that you can't see it all in a few hours. There are two docks you can launch from - one on either side of Brubaker Valley Road. It was mid-morning on a weekday and there were seven or eight other kayaks out there (mostly people fishing) and a few small boats that were also fishing. Plenty of wildlife with a Bald Eagle, a deer, a few Blue Heron and fish constantly jumping out of the water. At the far west end of the lake, where it gets shallow and you come to where it gets fed by the Hammer Creek, you expect to see a lot of ducks, turtles, frogs and since you're at the side of the Speedwell Forge Wolf Sanctuary - you can hear some barking & howling and even catch a few glimpses through the trees of a few of the residents running around. Fwiw, I can imagine that on weekends, this place getting very crowded and while it does have some size to it, compared to some other county/state parks, it's not that big. But for a weekday, it was more than fine. Beautiful. Peaceful. What more could you want?
