This park is on the Elbow River Pathway between Stanley Park and the Glenmore Reservoir. When cycling through this park I have a few tips for you. #1 - Keep to the west side pathway. There are two paths that pass through the park, one of which is closer to the river. The one closer to the river is busiest with pedestrian traffic. #2 - Dismount on the suspension bridge, especially if there is another cyclist on the bridge. It's super narrow. There are signs that say to do this. #3 - When riding Southward there is a large steep hill at the end of the park. Go ahead and put yourself into low gear and challenge it! It's a toughy, but short and worth it! I always feel like Superman after I hit the top! I have visited this park a few times to use the outdoor grills. I typically bring charcoal briquettes because I'm cycling or walking in which is light and more compact that bringing firewood. I'd suggest using firewood when possible if you want to cook faster or your food is very raw, like steak. I typically bring hot dogs, marshmallows and quick to heat items. There are bon fire pits as well but you need to get there in the early afternoon in peak times to secure one. Be sure to bring your bathing suit! The beach is beside the suspension bridge which isn't particularly sandy, but a nice cool shallow dip in the Elbow River!

There are loads if dogs and lots of room for them to safely chase each other around. By sticking to the ridge, cars are a long way off and the gravel pathways keep cyclists and rollerbladers away, ensuring safety for your dogs. There are doggie water fountains and lots of trees and smells! Parking along the park is ample and easy to get to. Overall a mist visit!

They also have a room that is great for hosting events. In addition, they also have an ice cream truck that comes to the lake. The lake has boats you can rent such as paddle boards or peddle boats. Very fun and nice lake.

And River Park is so far my favourite in the entire city. Granted, 10 parks doesn't mean I've seen them all. Heck no - there are 149! (Did you know that?) But... - there's a river accessible but not too close to the park for dogs that like to leap before looking (like mine) - amazing volunteers who help keep the park clean - baggies available almost all the time for when you forget yours - 3 huge garbage bins - views of downtown, river valley... ahhh... I love watching people float down the river in the summer! - tons of trees, bushes, etc. making it a really beautiful park to be in during the spring, summer and fall - no "pathways" through the park, bringing a grey area to right-of-way and safety of your pet - CLOSE TO HOME! Why did I give it 4 stars before? The parking. But, compared to other parks, it's a breeze. I'll forgive the busy parking lot from the rafters for a few weeks in the summer for all the other advantages this park brings. River Park is, hands down, the best park so far. 5 stars, no doubt in my mind. (Yelp Kicks Butt Challenge BONUS 11/10)

It's also one of the cleaner dog parks too (meaning people properly pick up after their dogs, for the most part). It's also one of the bigger off-leash areas in the city. The only downside would be the parking lot and school congestion during weekdays. However, there is plenty of parking on the street. After the May long weekend, the city installs a fountain for both people and their canine companions (which is excellent in the summer).

Like you can join in on bocce games and other games. You will need to check Facebook for that. Free drop in are welcome. On top of that there are nice plants and thing to look at during the summer making it really nice and relaxing to walk in. Overall, I like coming here. There are vendors and set up food trucks that I saw two of them and a hotdog chip drink cart. Bring bread if you want to amuse yourself with the seagulls. The cost for adults is $5 each. It closes at 7:15 on Sundays. The sand is really nice. Just bring your umbrella and if you have an old yoga mat it works awsome under your towel too! They are very good with bringing attention to keeping everyone safe here. There are 4 or 5 areas where they have life gards and saw two in the water on two water boards in the area I was in. I would come back here again with friends.. A beach hidden in the North of Deer Run SW Calgary nestled in Fishcreek Park.

The ability to go for a walk was not. This is not a park that allows dogs off-leash or a park with a dog park, this is very much a giant dog park. If you don't have a dog this is not a place to go for a walk. It's a super cool dog park! There are a bunch of different fenced in areas, including a huge agility course and river access. It seemed new and well maintained. The highway noise is pretty intense, but worth putting up with to enjoy letting your dog run and socialize.

There are gymnasiums to work out gym to ice rinks and party rooms. Swimming is my main focus as that it is the warmer of the ones in Calgary. Wave pool and water slides. Overall nice to spend time in summer or winter.
