The terrain in this park is fantastically varied with lots of flats, a couple of easy rolling hills and one long steep hill taking you from the parking lot at Sandy Beach up to River Park. You can take the paved path the whole way or add some off-trail walking to increase the adventure! If you're looking for something more, there are also BBQ areas and playgrounds - a fantastic way to spend an afternoon with a group of friends. If you don't have a dog this is not a place to go for a walk. It's a super cool dog park! There are a bunch of different fenced in areas, including a huge agility course and river access. It seemed new and well maintained. The highway noise is pretty intense, but worth putting up with to enjoy letting your dog run and socialize.

I like this park for the hills and trees... there are a number of different paths you can travel along, which makes it a more interesting experience than those parks with only one main path. It's not fully fenced but it's never been an issue for me. The people are friendly and there are some great views of downtown - even benches if you want to take a breather and just relax. The hills can get icy in the winter, especially the tree-protected ones near the first parking lot, so be careful and wear proper footwear. Parking is a little tough to find but we finally parked on on New St (Ave?) and that worked out fine. We saw 2 dogs when first arriving and that was it for our entire visit. There are some pluses to this park... it's near the river, so if you're not nervous about your dog and the current, would be a nice place to swim them (unfortunately, mine is 17 lbs and thinks she's stronger than she is, so if I let her to her own devices she'd be floating down the Bow in no time). It's also a little hilly and has some nice trees - I bet it's a pretty place in the summer. However, it seems that you're always too close to some sort of "danger" zone... either the street, the river or the pathway. I'm a little confused about the pathway going right through an off leash park. If a cyclist were to hit my dog, who would be the party at fault: me (and my dog) or the cyclist? We finally parked at the end of 9th Ave NW, at the west end of the park. It's a massive park and, the unique part, situated on a hill. Great exercise for both the human and the dog! I like that you're not always near a road and that all the houses are fenced off so you don't have to worry about a curious dog sniffing around someone's yard. Also, if you've got two people, having one at the top of the hill (especially the one at the NE corner of the park) and one at the bottom, you can tire the dog out calling her back and forth. Here a pup, there a pooch, everywhere a pup and pooch. Old Tom Campbell had a hill, e-i-e-i-o. Did you know there's a park on top of that hill over by the zoo and Telus Spark? I had no idea. I've driven round the bend in the road so many times, knew the hill was there, but hadn't thought to look at what's on top. Well, I discovered it today as I was out exploring. Apparently, its known as Old Tom Campbell Hill because for a good chunk of the 1900s, there was a big billboard on top of this hill for Tom Campbell Hats. Well, there's no billboard here anymore, but there is some mighty pretty grassland and a nice view of downtown. I'm a bit in love with this one pathway lined with trees. It's straight as an arrow and leads up to an interpretive area. It's just begging for a wedding on a sunny summer day when those trees are in bloom... you'd just need to keep an eye out for any extra friendly dogs ;). You could also get a pretty gnarly afternoon of tobogganing down one of the sides of the hill if there were any snow on the ground... or just enjoy the woosh on wheels. I'd discovered this lovely little park when I lived in the neighbourhood a few years ago when I didn't have dogs with me (the locals go there to watch the Stampede Fireworks, but it's relatively unknown and out of the way. More of a neighbourhood park than a destination. We had a good romp on a nice sunny but brisk Sunday morning. Super view of the city and many nice, friendly dogs and people. There's a nice gravel path all around. and you'll need to do several circles of the park to get a workout in, but on the plus side, you keep running into the same dogs over and over. Although it's not fenced, you're a long way from any streets, so unless your dog takes off down the hill and crosses Memorial Drive, which I'm told has happened once in a while. I would definitely go back.

Unfortunately this park has recently increased in volume of people and it's a shame because it has attracted a high number of dog owners who treat the park like a free for all and are not watching their dogs so more poop is being left behind and the dogs are not under control when they need to be. We recently had two incidents with a dog owner who completely disregarded the off-leash by-laws and his large dog chased our small dog and rolled her and bit her like she was a stuffy toy it was playing with. The owner couldn't of cared less. He just shook his head and reacted like "oh well" and he's not the only one. Their are number of older folks and some small children that use this park as well and this type of behavior is increasing so be aware if you do choose to go to this park. There are some lovely people and dogs there as well but you know the old saying " one bad egg can ruin it for the rest" Cheryl M.

You could walk upto the Bow and listen to the relaxing sound of water. This is not an off leash park. I met a few furry friends who were on leash, of course. Park is better than a mall, no doubt:)

I've seen several people on the bigger pond kayaking around. Always good for people walking, jogging, spending time with family, kayaking, and taking pictures. Lots of people walk their dogs here, and as an In the fall, the changing colours are lovely to see here. It goes quickly though, so make sure you get down there when the leaves start to turn as they won't wait for you. It's a good area to see birds too. Geese are here it seems all year round. I think there are other seasonal / migratory birds which pass through the area as well. White American Pelicans summer along this stretch of the river during the summer. I've seen whitetail deer in this area a number of times. It's highly probably that there are occasional coyotes in the area and so like in many Calgary parks, be watchful of your dog. It's a wonderful park if this is your area.
