My darlings having the best day ever.
    Tiffany N.

I see this place all the time, and have been kind of anxious about taking my fur-babies here, since one has a tendency to assume he is a much bigger dog than his 11.5 lbs. and will bum rush one and all, yapping away with the worst high-pitched bark in the universe. But the warm weather, and their happy dopey faces won me over, and I took the boys here. I'm so glad I did! They loved every moment of it. I loved every moment of it. Meeting new dogs, all the different things to see, climb over, explore, smell, etc. It's a wonderland for canines. I only wish they had some doggy drinking fountains, but on a warm enough day, the boys are happy to wade in and lap up L'eau de Bow. Lots of parking available, you can get here one of two ways; I accessed it via the Carburn Park entrance and over the bridge. P.S. Yay for Indy being the face of Southland Dog Park!

Cilli'n after a romp at the park.

Sue Higgins was one of the nastiest people to have ever lived, at least now with the park named after her dogs get to shit on her non stop!

And River Park is so far my favourite in the entire city. Granted, 10 parks doesn't mean I've seen them all. Heck no - there are 149! (Did you know that?) But... - there's a river accessible but not too close to the park for dogs that like to leap before looking (like mine) - amazing volunteers who help keep the park clean - baggies available almost all the time for when you forget yours - 3 huge garbage bins - views of downtown, river valley... ahhh... I love watching people float down the river in the summer! - tons of trees, bushes, etc. making it a really beautiful park to be in during the spring, summer and fall - no "pathways" through the park, bringing a grey area to right-of-way and safety of your pet - CLOSE TO HOME! Why did I give it 4 stars before? The parking. But, compared to other parks, it's a breeze. I'll forgive the busy parking lot from the rafters for a few weeks in the summer for all the other advantages this park brings. River Park is, hands down, the best park so far. 5 stars, no doubt in my mind. (Yelp Kicks Butt Challenge BONUS 11/10)

It's also one of the cleaner dog parks too (meaning people properly pick up after their dogs, for the most part). It's also one of the bigger off-leash areas in the city. The only downside would be the parking lot and school congestion during weekdays. However, there is plenty of parking on the street. After the May long weekend, the city installs a fountain for both people and their canine companions (which is excellent in the summer).

Parking is a little tough to find but we finally parked on on New St (Ave?) and that worked out fine. We saw 2 dogs when first arriving and that was it for our entire visit. There are some pluses to this park... it's near the river, so if you're not nervous about your dog and the current, would be a nice place to swim them (unfortunately, mine is 17 lbs and thinks she's stronger than she is, so if I let her to her own devices she'd be floating down the Bow in no time). It's also a little hilly and has some nice trees - I bet it's a pretty place in the summer. However, it seems that you're always too close to some sort of "danger" zone... either the street, the river or the pathway. I'm a little confused about the pathway going right through an off leash park. If a cyclist were to hit my dog, who would be the party at fault: me (and my dog) or the cyclist? All in all, I can't see this being a park I visit often. Maybe I'll try again in the summer and be a little more impressed. (Yelp Kicks Butt Challenge Places 4/10)

Here a pup, there a pooch, everywhere a pup and pooch. Old Tom Campbell had a hill, e-i-e-i-o. Did you know there's a park on top of that hill over by the zoo and Telus Spark? I had no idea. I've driven round the bend in the road so many times, knew the hill was there, but hadn't thought to look at what's on top. Well, I discovered it today as I was out exploring. Apparently, its known as Old Tom Campbell Hill because for a good chunk of the 1900s, there was a big billboard on top of this hill for Tom Campbell Hats. Well, there's no billboard here anymore, but there is some mighty pretty grassland and a nice view of downtown. I'm a bit in love with this one pathway lined with trees. It's straight as an arrow and leads up to an interpretive area. It's just begging for a wedding on a sunny summer day when those trees are in bloom... you'd just need to keep an eye out for any extra friendly dogs ;). You could also get a pretty gnarly afternoon of tobogganing down one of the sides of the hill if there were any snow on the ground... or just enjoy the woosh on wheels. I'd say roll down it, but being an offleash dog park, I'm not sure that's the cleanest of ideas. Who knows what's hiding under some of that longer grass? April Underdog Challenge: 3/30

I'd discovered this lovely little park when I lived in the neighbourhood a few years ago when I didn't have dogs with me (the locals go there to watch the Stampede Fireworks, but it's relatively unknown and out of the way. More of a neighbourhood park than a destination. We had a good romp on a nice sunny but brisk Sunday morning. Super view of the city and many nice, friendly dogs and people. There's a nice gravel path all around. and you'll need to do several circles of the park to get a workout in, but on the plus side, you keep running into the same dogs over and over. Although it's not fenced, you're a long way from any streets, so unless your dog takes off down the hill and crosses Memorial Drive, which I'm told has happened once in a while. I would definitely go back.

The city did an awesome job leaving a lot of space for the dogs and owners to walk them. Unfortunately this park has recently increased in volume of people and it's a shame because it has attracted a high number of dog owners who treat the park like a free for all and are not watching their dogs so more poop is being left behind and the dogs are not under control when they need to be. We recently had two incidents with a dog owner who completely disregarded the off-leash by-laws and his large dog chased our small dog and rolled her and bit her like she was a stuffy toy it was playing with. The owner couldn't of cared less. He just shook his head and reacted like "oh well" and he's not the only one. Their are number of older folks and some small children that use this park as well and this type of behavior is increasing so be aware if you do choose to go to this park. There are some lovely people and dogs there as well but you know the old saying " one bad egg can ruin it for the rest" Cheryl M.
