The rooms are spacious and charming; the fridge and pantry are generously well-stocked; the living room and game room are large and make the stay unique and special. It is a mansion home away from home. Across the street is a three mile hilly woodland trail (behind the Art Museum and rose garden). The neighborhood us safe and beautiful. Highly recommend for both business and leisure travel. Seven large bedrooms can accommodate a group. Please note: The only negative reviews that keep this from being five star was many years ago under prior owners. I was here at that time and had a very positive experience during my stay, though the family/owners were dealing with very difficult health challenges. The atmosphere in the home is five star now.

One of the trailheads is right down the hill and we biked downtown to the Des Moines Farmers Market and beyond and got an easy 20 mile ride in on beautiful trails. We highly recommend the Butler House on Grand for a getaway for two or for a group of friends!

And the drive was not bad at all, only .9 miles from our home lol, if it weren't for the tree line we could see our back deck from The Corn Crib! When we arrived Barb was just finishing up some final touches and greeted us as we arrived. I had been in email contact with her for quite awhile as I had to reschedule several times, she was always accommodating and very professional! Absolutely everything you need for a comfortable stay is provided. The details in the design and interior decorating are amazing! My wife and I would love to build a home like The Corn Crib, only a bit larger in places. We spent 20 minutes walking around just noticing the small details that made all the difference! My only concern was the bed. My wife and I are used to a California king bed. I'm 6'3 230 pounds, my wife 5'0 125 lbs, things get a little tight in smaller beds, but by no means would the bed size prevent anything less than 5 stars for The Corn Crib! We chose to stay local to help out our local businesses. We finished up our day by going to West Hill Brewing here in Indianola for a few beers, followed up by a pizza from Bricktown. Definitely come to The Corn Crib if you get a chance!!

What a fortunate turn of events for the four of us. Turns out that Pella is a very nice place to spend some time and our mini vacation was made doubly enjoyable by the extraordinary hospitality offered at The Cheesemaker's Inn. Rob and Kim have mastered the art of accommodation. Every need is satisfied. The rooms are exceptionally clean, tidy and well decorated. They provided a small but pleasant sitting room off the upstairs bedrooms where we could brew coffee or tea, snack on cookies, and help ourselves to refrigerated soft drinks while chatting or reading the paper. Breakfasts are something to look forward to at this inn. We have stayed at any number of B&B's and have generally been served a good meal from the kitchen. But Kim's skill in the kitchen is above par. Homemade bread? Yes. Garden herbs? Expect it. Fresh ingredients prepared and presented in a simple but elegant way? You bet. And best of all, their guest service is unpretentious and welcoming. It's as though you were neighbors from down the road or a relative from across town. Just a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

I am allergic to gluten and dairy and have known for a little over a year now. For christmas we got gingerbread cutout cookies, lemon merigue tarte, cinnamon rolls, and an assortment of scones. The gingerbread cookies were crunchy and delicious. If you are looking for a soft cookie do not get these. I normally like soft and chewy cookies but when it comes to gingerbread cookies these were great. The lemon merigue tarte was to die for. It made my insides so happy and I loved it. I would love to know how or where they got the lemon curd vegan. I will always reccomend the cinnamon rolls I love them. And the scone assortment had lemon poppyseed, cranberry orange, chocolate chip, and 'cheesy' garlic scones. I will say the cheesy garlic scones are my favorite. The scones were a little dry for some. The lemon poppyseed crumbled and the chocolate chips sank to the bottom of the scones but they were still pretty good. For new years we also did an order. Marti really came through for us. We were doing a belated chrismas party for my moms side of the family and I really wanted to be able to eat some type of dessert without reacting. We also then found out 3 days before pickup that a relative had passed and the visitation was the day before our pickup. Marti really worked with us so we could get our baked goods still. We ended up ordering chocolate chip bread pudding, creme brulee for 2, tiramisu, and miso caramel rolls. I will say I was slightly disappointed about not getting any instructions about how to take care of everything. The bread pudding was a hit! The tiramisu was heavier than I expected, it was more a take on it then the actual thing. The frosting was heavy and was more of a 'cream cheese' frosting, but it was still really good! Creme brulee was divine once my mom and I looked up instructions on what to do. The miso caramel rolls were my least favorite. I have never had miso caramel so maybe that was the problem. I am used to making date caramel. The miso caramel was in a seperate container so it worked out though. It was more of a sticky roll then a caramel cinnamon roll. The caramel just did not want to melt so I made my own frosting for it. Love this place and cannot wait to stop in again!

The oatmeal cream pie was a hit, but everything else had a very similar taste profile. I sent an email a month and a half prior to my birthday to place a cake order. It was replied to with the pricing and asked if I was good with that. Once I replied with a yes, she was supposed to send me a flavor list and an invoice/bill, and that never happened. First time in 45 years that I didn't have a birthday cake. I was pretty bummed. If you go, get the oatmeal cream pie.

Breakfast was excellent during our stay and delivered promptly to our room. They had treats for snacking as well as a refrigerator filled with a variety of drinks. The hospitality was outstanding. Winterset is the town where the movie "The Bridges of Madison County" with Meryl Strep and Clint Eastwood was filmed. The B and B was also in the movie as the motel where Francesca's children stayed when they come back for her funeral. Neat experience to stay there as we are big fans of the movie. Also, Winterset is the birthplace of John Wayne and a nice museum is also in town honoring him and his acting achievements. Thanks to our excellent hosts, Justin and Johna for a wonderful stay!
