Absolutely spectacular Holiday Inn Express - easily the best IHG experience we've had on our…read morecross-country trip. The rooms are clean, spacious, extremely affordable, and the staff is 5-star, especially the late night host, Chris. The professionalism, kindness, and consideration at this hotel are as spot-on as their location for travelers in the crossroads. Plus, the pool is very clean and quaint. The most special part of this unique location is the glorious, massive crucifix, which is lit up and can be seen from the freeway. There is a magnificent sitting area, pristinely unkept, with plenty of benches, Bible verses, and the ability to enjoy a quiet corner at night. Christian families who take an extra moment in the morning will be particularly pleased with this location. IHG should use this as a model location for HI-Express

Disabled Veteran Files ADA Complaint Against Mississippi Hotel Over Service Dog Access…read more WINONA, MS (July 2025) - A family reunion turned sour for Disabled American Veteran and retired federal employee William F. McCasland, who alleges he was discriminated against by hotel staff at the Holiday Inn Express North in Winona, Mississippi, due to the presence of his fully trained service dog, Toby. McCasland, who traveled from Connecticut with his wife Karen and their service dog, described an "unwelcoming and distressing" encounter with hotel management on July 19th, after initially enjoying smooth check-in and communal dining experiences. Despite wearing veteran apparel and receiving gratitude from fellow guests, McCasland says hotel staff targeted him and told him he could not remain in the dining area with his service dog--a clear violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which mandates public access for service animals in dining and other communal spaces. "I kindly explained the law," said McCasland. "But the hotel clerk insisted it was 'policy,' and asked me to leave. It was deeply unsettling. My service dog is trained to help me manage anxiety. The ordeal triggered the very symptoms he is meant to help me control." McCasland noted the inconsistency among staff: while the manager, identified only by a wall plaque as Mary Graydon, stated dogs were not allowed in dining areas, other clerks had previously not objected to his presence. After reaching out to IHG's corporate office that same day, he was told the matter would be handled by local hotel management--yet received no callback, resolution, or accommodation. "This wasn't about noise or disruption," McCasland added. "It was a failure to uphold federal law and provide reasonable accommodation. Families gather, stories are shared--and veterans like myself rely on the protections the ADA guarantees." He reports that his final day at the hotel brought only vague assurances: he could eat breakfast as long as "no one complained." But as McCasland points out, ADA guidelines explicitly state that fear of dogs or allergy concerns are not valid grounds for denying access to a service animal. Now pursuing legal action and having filed complaints with both the Department of Justice and ADA authorities, McCasland hopes sharing his story will raise awareness and drive accountability across the hospitality industry. "Service dog discrimination is real. I want others to know their rights--and I want businesses to respect them."

No beds were made, no trash was removed; they just took the towels. When I tried to get more, I was told, "We don't have any, we don't know where they are, and we don't know when we will have more." Two days later, still no towels, and the trash remains uncollected despite being advised to leave it outside the door. The parking lot is filthy, with drug paraphernalia and dirty diapers left in parking spots. Even the pancake machine was out of order. Under the entertainment center was filthy, and we found a pair of someone else's underwear behind the dresser. To top it all off, the toilet seat in our room was broken. The fire alarm went off during our first day at 6 AM, presumably from the smell of marijuana in the halls--note this hotel is "smoke-free," but I guess drugs are excluded. You could easily find the source if desired by following the smell. Staff is also impossible to find; I had to hunt in the back for someone to assist--luckily, they eventually added a bell. One bright spot - the staff seems friendly - just don't ask for anything. I strongly suggest any other local hotel--they have to be better.
