Magnolia Bridge is such a lovely spot to watch the sunset in MidCity.
Do it right. I walked up to my friends who had chosen the bridge as a destination to watch the sun go down, and realized...we are doing it so wrong. While we did bring cups and around 4 bottles of rose and bubbles, this group of women just a few steps from us were nailing their sunset party. I looked at my friends, looked at this group of women, and exclaimed, "we are doing this so wrong!" They laughed but lemme tell you...
Chairs, duh. Get your butt off the bridge and avoid the splinters that may or may not 'cause Tetanus. Did we mention this bridge is old?
Light jackets and/or blankets. A wonderful breeze is on the bayou, and if you're female, you're probably always cold and should plan accordingly.
Wine, a wine key, and enough cups for everyone. Check. We were doing something right.
Charcuterie and an array of cheese. Hello, sunset party upgrade! Yes, these wise women had a spread of delicious cheese atop what I assume maybe be a small table or ice chest.
These fine ladies knew exactly what they were doing, and I envied them that night though our wine went nicely with the cotton candy-colored sky. So I WILL be stepping up our sunset/bridge game asap!!
If you're lucky, sometimes a little band may come out to jam. Yes, we were blessed this night to enjoy a little string band. If they're not out, maybe bring a mini jam box for some light tunes.
There's also almost always a constant flow of dogs passing by if you're into hugging every puppy like myself.
Thank you to the group of women for lending us some of your jackets till you left! We took note, and promise, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. read more
