**This review is about the washrooms in the shopping center.** We were out and about when nature called. There weren't any public washrooms, excluding those outdoor urinals ("pee curls") that only men can really use, and an employee of a nearby shop directed us to the Magna Plaza shopping center. There were washrooms on the second floor of the shopping center, but it cost €1. But when you have to go, you have to go, and I figured since they were charging to use the facilities, it would at least be a clean and comfortable experience -- when you pay for something, there are certain expectations. To get to the entrance of the washrooms, there were two turnstiles. I went to one turnstile, but it was cash only and I didn't have any cash on me, so I went to the second turnstile that accepted credit cards. However, there was a group of fucking tourists, paying by cash, blocking the credit card only turnstile, while they took their sweet time trying to figure out the currency. I finally managed to get into the washroom, and there was no toilet paper! Seriously, if I have to PAY to use the toilet, there better damn well be toilet paper! Thank goodness I always carry napkins and tissues with me and I wasn't taking a shit! I then went to wash my hands, but there was a MALE employee in the WOMEN'S washroom, and he was blocking the sinks and wouldn't let me wash my hands! I was able to find the handicapped washroom and wash my hands in there, but there was no paper towel. This one of the worst public bathroom experiences I have had (that did not include bodily fluids or excrement everywhere). If I have to pay, I expect the basics such as toilet paper, paper towel (or at least a hand dryer), and the ability to wash my hands! Magna Plaza is a truly impressive building, and its grandeur is undeniable. However, the sheer size and multiple levels can feel a bit overwhelming upon entering. While this might not be my preferred shopping experience, I can see how it would be fantastic for others. I'm particularly pleased that it hasn't been converted into a hotel, and I appreciate the presence of various businesses within its walls. There is a large selection of shops and food places. Service is very good from the Dutch shopkeepers. The location is superb, being right next to Dam Square. read more

Magna Plaza is housed in the historic former Amsterdam Main Post Office. The brick building was completed in 1898. It was built in the neo-Renaissance and neo-Gothic style. The roof is framed with pear shaped crowns. This gave the post office the nickname Perenburg, the Pear Building. The building was sold and redeveloped into a shopping center a hundred years after being built. Worth a quick stop to take a peek inside. read more

I like the Magna Plaza, but not necessarily for it's restaurants, but more so for the food hall. Okay, listen, I love a mall, big or small, I love them all, but the stores inside this mall don't really do it for me. Nothing is uber appealing or really anything that would draw me particularly to this location, but again, I was really happy with the food hall. So the top floor which I believe is the 4th floor is their food hall. It's got everything, tacos, pizza, sushi, and much more. I tried the sushirito (sushi burrito) and loved it. The four floor has some fun random photo ops too- the ramen place has a bowl of noodles you can sit in for a photo op as well there are some photo booths too. In other news they have a nice public restroom- Americans: their restroom takes Apple Pay so if you have no Euro you're still in the clear. Overall, I'm not overwhelmed with the mall itself, but the food hall is it's most redeeming quality. read more

This review is only for Sissy-Boy's lovely coffee shop inside their Magna Plaza location. Located on the ground floor, "The Daily" has a great coffee menu along with a light food menu. My husband enjoyed his scones with clotted cream and jam while I was delighted to discover they had a nice selection of gluten-free sweets that really tasted good. Another bonus: unlike many of the coffee shops in the Dam they have plenty of seating which is a boon to the tired shopper. Highly recommended. read more

One of the few "indoor shopping centres" areas in Amsterdam, the Magna Plaza is an amazing, grand building which walking into certainly doesn't feel like a shopping centre, it is an old building with Rijksmonument status being built in the late 1800s, originally as a Post Office. Around 100 years after first opening, in the late 1990's it became what it is now, the Magna Plaza Shopping Centre and in a way, it is a shame to see such a grand building now he used as a shopping centre, but on the other hand the grand building really fits in well to the nature of the stores located here, most of which are high end. There isn't really anywhere to grab food inside the mall, which is a letdown, albeit there are places nearby and plans to launch a Food Department in the near future however I'm not sure what exactly that will bring to Magna Plaza. There was only a small selection of stores here, which links into the fact that the mall being half empty in a way represents a slightly sad part of such an old, amazing and impressive building. Only three out of the few stores were brands I recognised from the UK including Swarovski, Lacoste and Mango. Beautiful building but as a shopping centre? Meh. A bit of a letdown! 2* read more

It's a very nice indoor shopping center located in a historical building (the former Main Post Office of Amsterdam built at the end of the 19th century in Neo-Gothic architecture and impressive interior, e.g., photos) behind the Royal Palace and New Church. It is now an exclusive shopping destination with more than 20 stores on four floors representing some very familiar brand names. It combines classical grandeur with a modern shopping experience which makes your visit here very unique. There's a very good food court on the top floor with many varieties of cuisine represented to satisfy your culinary needs (Chinese, French, Greek, Japanese, pizza, BBQ, Beer and Wine, etc.) Magna Plaza is just a 15-minute walk from Central Station. If you prefer to use public transportation, you can take a tram (1, 2, 5, 13, 14 & 17) or bus (170 &172). If you are in Amsterdam, I'd recommend you to stop here for a relief from the summer heat or winter cold. It'll be worth your visit. read more

This place is like dating a really hot woman with no personality. It looks fun and promising but when it comes to the content, nobody is home. And what I mean about that is, it seems like there is a lot to see and shop here but once you walk around there really isn't much. a couple high end clothing stores including Armani but not much inside. A few restaurants but all were completely empty. Isn't worth going in IMO unless you just want to take some cool pics. read more

The Magna Plaza is a beautiful building located near to the Palace. It is absolutely lovely, its stature is majestic and the architecture fabulous. It is now a shopping mall spread over three levels, with lifts for easy access and bathroom facilities. The shops mostly sell high end brands such as Swarovski, Lacoste, and Armani. If you are a candle lover, be sure to visit the Aroma Plaza store, which has an amazing display of Yankee and Woodwick candles at great prices, as well as very helpful and attentive, knowledgeable sales assistants. Even if you don't like shopping it's worth a visit to admire the interior and exterior of this wonderful building. read more

Interior such as exterior looks really nice. This is a real palace and you can take a great photos inside there. read more

I'm not too sure of all the other businesses but I know there is a restaurant, cheese shop and clothing shops inside this mid-sized mall - Magna Plaza, which include stands providing services. I had tunnel vision only for one thing on visiting Magna Plaza. I actually came here for the Re:mbrandt - All his paintings exhibit on the lower level. If anyone is into art, this is well worth an hour or so of ones time. I came here on a weekend afternoon and there were barely any visitors. It was like three others and myself. The Re:mbrandt exhibit is on the lower level in the Magna Plaza and there is a giftshop with overpriced souvenirs like books, overpriced umbrellas and bags in the shape of a Tulip for 200 or so Euros as example of what's for sale. The exhibit info can be fount at their website: http://www.rembrandtallhispaintings.com Anyway, the artwork on display is supposedly remastered, and each one is vivid in it's contrast and angle. If Rembrandt painted like what's on display, I can see why he is a master. The color in shading is apparent in lightness to prevalence. The dimensions in his artwork is life like. The exhibit says "all" his work is here but I can't account on that. All I can say is that there is a large number of his pieces on display here. They are basically framed in rolls and aisles on a colored board like, drywall. There is lighting above each and with it's dark and lamp like lighting it creates a perfect tone for each painting. If you're into art or images of history, like me, particularly the 1600s in this case, well worth learning a few things from a master. read more

This place looks like so much like majestic shopping mall from the outside, almost like Copenhagen's own Magasin but as the saying goes: Don't judge a book by its cover, the same can be said for this place. Don't get me wrong, the interior is very nice and posh and there are some good shops here, but we were fooled by the outside thinking that this place was twice as big as it actually was. The "shopping mall" is actually tiny, with a couple of interesting shops (the rest aren't) and you could do a lap here and done with things, such a far cry from shopping malls (in Indonesia) where I grew up with. Fancy fancy! This is a decent sized shopping mall for Amsterdam. It's called "magna" as in "great" and "big", but it's pretty small, it's just tall so it has many floors. It looks beautiful and there are many cool stores inside! The outside makes a great picture, because this is really pretty architecture. Can you believe this used to be a post office? Just compare to the ones nowadays, and they don't stand a chance! There are high-end stores as well as more mid-ranged priced stores too. There aren't that many options, but nonetheless a great place to visit. read more

Well. It's your typical high-end American-like shopping mall in Amsterdam. BUT. here's a fun fact that I learned that's pretty cool. The architecture here is astounding... you know why? Because this used to be a post office. In fact, if you look underneath the Magna Plaza sign in the front, it still says post office underneath because they didn't bother removing it. Anyways, the original building was designed by this Dutch architect who was a pro at designing post offices--apparently he invented post office gothic. So yeah, the architecture is awesome. The mall itself, is swanky and high-end, but just a mall at the end of the day. Oh the woes of globalization. There's actually really not that much variety or options in the mall. I'd rather shop on the streets which have a few more brands and everything. Magna Plaza is a beautiful structure inside and out. Outside of course showing historic architecture, while inside you have a shopping center lol. It's still a great sight on the inside and even if you don't plan to shop, it's worth a peak. The times I've been here, it hasn't been that busy. Most people just pass it by. read more

Mall was a little empty, toilets were fine. However, the souvenir shop on the main level is garbage. Tried to buy a coke, only had a €20 note, dude behind the register asked for smaller bills. I explained that this was the smallest I had, he got really nasty out of nowhere and refused to sell to me. Seems they don't want your money. Go to another souvenir shop. read more

This is a good little shopping spot but there are noticeably quite a few empty spaces. The highlight was Sissy-Boy's downstairs in the basement. Easy to miss if you aren't looking. Lot's of nifty home wares and some nice basic clothing pieces. read more

The best shopping mall in Amsterdam (not taht there are that many to pick from though). A bit upmarket with some stores carrying high end brands like Dsquared but also more normal priced (but still more expensive than your average fashionbrand) such as G-star, Juicy Couture and Replay. read more
