When I was studying in Chicago, I refused to let anybody touch my hair even if that means I have to wait 'til Spring break to come home for a haircut. It's fairly reasonably priced. I have tried the super expensive posh hair salons, like Cielo Salon, in Washington DC (Yes, that's where Monica Llewinsky goes) for $265 a cut. I went with Jasmina early this week. She was very friendly and efficient. It only cost me $60, including tip! Her cut was just as good! I'd recommend to others!

Realizing later that Taz had a salon on Bloor street in Etobicoke, which is nearer to my home, I called and changed the appointment to that location. Carol Cini, the stylist attended to me and I was satisfied with her approach and work. What I found disconcerting is that I was charged $120 for my haircut without shampoo and formal blow dry ! This amount was unexpected and shockingly double what Bellar street salon quoted. I was not informed when I arrived that this would be the cost of a haircut of half an hour without shampoo and blow dry ! It is discouraging, I must say, to consider being a regular customer at your salon. While Carol was pleasant and professional, $120 for a hair cut as described above is, allow me to say, a rip off.

I have been looking for someone to cut my hair ever since I moved away from Virginia, with little success. I had a pretty unsatisfying experience at one place in Buffalo that I tried, so I figured that since he was having his hair cut, I'd get mine done as well. I had him make an appointment with Mary, and on my next trip up to Toronto, I came in. I've been here a couple of times before when waiting on him. It's a small, cozy spot on Bloor, close to the subway and at the times we've been here, plenty of parking. The waiting area is a little bit cramped, with only one couch, and if there are a lot of customers it can be a little uncomfortable. This is a unisex, all ages salon, so you see men, women, and children here. They have Wifi, so if you're waiting for someone, it is a nice way to pass the time. The shampooing tech did a good job, with a nice head massage during the conditioner. Then, I sat with Mary, and she asked a few questions about what I wanted. I explained the kind of style that I prefer, making an emphasis that I wanted to make sure I could still put my hair in a ponytail. I showed her a few pictures of how my hair was done in the past, and she went to work. Mary is very pleasant, with a breezy, conversational attitude. She didn't overly pry into my life, and was good at just small talk. I was overall satisfied with my hair, and I'd definitely go back.

Rosa's is the place for you if: 1) You need a great hair cut…read more2) You don't need a 5 star salon 3) You love a cheap cut! I found out about Rosa's 3 years ago. It was located in a small plaza across the street from my apartment at the time. The first time I went to that plaza, I tried another Korean Salon because it looked nicer. The cut was decent, but I decided to give Rosa's a try the next time. Rosa did not disappoint. The inside of the salon is pretty no frills. To be honest, the interior and furniture is a bit dated. The service itself is pretty no frills as well, you get a hair cut and that's about it (no wash/dry and crazy hair products). That said, I found Rosa's hair cuts to be pretty great! And to add to that, they are ridiculously cheap as well - the men's hair cut is 14$ (this is after tax) and the women's cut is 17$ (after tax). Both her and her assistant are also very fast at cutting hair, while still delivering a good hair cut. You can ask for specific styles if you want as well. For example, my sister brought in a picture of a girl from a korean drama, and Rosa's employee was able to perfectly replicate the hair cut. Specific styles, different lengths, etc do not incur additional charges. Bottom line is, Rosa charges an amazingly cheap price and still manages to give a great hair cut! If you live in the area or you're in the area, give her salon a shot :).
