Our appointment was for 11 am but at 1030, Amanda text us that Bella was stuck on a GO Bus and wouldn't be able to start until 1130. I explained this to Amanda, and she said if I could get there soon, she would cut my daughter's hair. The salon opens at 11, but Amanda started with us at 1045. The level of customer service was unreal. Friendly, accommodating, apologetic and I got what I came there for - a sophisticated haircut for my daughter that wasn't just a "who cares you're a kid" cut. The salon is beautiful inside, the sparkling lights about the hair washing station was a nice touch. At the very end, Bella did show up and she seemed nice as well, but Amanda really came through for us. We will be back!!

I usually pay at least double for a haircut, and can I honestly say it's double the quality of what I get from Jane? Nope. Jane took an after pic of my haircut. All I can say is that Peter is the man. I've been going to Peter since December '15. When I first walked in, I showed him a pic of a style that I liked. When getting a haircut I usually get my sides and back short and some length on the top. Easy peasy. I wanted to grow out my hair so I can try different styles. When I met Peter I was over due by like 3 months or so. From the very first snip I was sold. Peter is highly skilled with his tools and has great techniques. That first snip he used his scissors as shears, held out my side hair by their tips and lightly sheared away. I remember thinking, I can't wait to see what this going to look like. I feel metrosexual saying this, but I get excited about my hair... lol I was able to tryout a couple of different things along the way, and I always looked forward to my hair appointment. Fast forward to last weekend, at one point while cutting my hair, he says, "I'm going to try something different". He vaguely said something about doing something with my sides. He knew that I wanted to grow out my hair more, but it's Peter man. So, I'm like go for it. I can't wait to see it...... The best hair cut I've ever had in my life. I'm totally digging the style, Peter is great with creating texture and creating style. read more

I can't believe this place has any bad ratings at all. I've been going here about three years and am more happy with the ladies here than any other barber shop I've ever been to. Rather than looking at my haircut as a chore, I look forward to chatting with them as a break from my day. They're polite, speedy and most importantly, they cut hair well! I can understand why someone might have a problem with the not-so-great English skills of a couple of the ladies, but so what. You just need to make yourself clear. I can't say much for the guys that work there, as I also stick to the women, but my partner had his hair cut by a guy there and it was the best cut he's had in years. Yes, they did raise their prices to $17, but is that really too much to pay for consistently good haircuts and service? I don't think so. I'm an Ivan fan for life. read more

I've been getting my hair cut here for 19 years, since I was 6 years old. San San always cuts my hair exactly how I like. I can be very specific. When I was a kid and had my Jim Carrey phase, I asked her to give me a bowl cut like from Dumb & Dumber, and she gave it to me. When I wanted to get the same haircuts as my older brother, she would always do them just how I wanted. Now, as an adult, I have more serious requests, and she does them impeccably. I came in this past week and asked to look more Asian, and she did just that. San San is a pro. I've been to other barbershops here and there over the years, and some of them were really good, but none came close to the high standard she's set. read more

As soon as I walked in I felt at home immediately. I was greeted by Sansan the owner, a sweet little lady who jokingly offered to pay for my haircut. I sat with Peter who was very professional with an incredible eye for detail. He makes you feel comfortable in the chair sparking conversation while cutting hair with straight up confidence. You can tell by the way he handles his shears that this guy is talented. Was totally blown away by experience. For 20 dollars, I got a very sharp low fade in under 10 minutes with advice on how to improve my hairstyle. I don't think it gets any better than this. Will definitely be coming back every 2 weeks. I first visited Ivan's Hair Salon in 1992 when I worked on Adelaide St. (and then eventually, Front St.) and continued as a customer through 2006, when my job took me far out of the downtown core. Bruno and Carmen were there during these years (great guys) but it was San San who did 95% of my hair cuts over the years. You will not find a nicer person than San San and a better place than the homey feel of Ivan's to get your hair cut. Give it a try for yourself and I bet you will be hooked!
