Not a viable option and not recommended. I have to work a full time job to afford their high tuition rate. However, I can't frequently stay at home 2 out of 5 days to look after my child while still paying full tuition. They normally call, usually at 10-11 AM (as often as weekly) to pick up your child and you will have to keep him/her at home the next day too for all reasons such as crying, running nose, not happy etc. This center is closed door, you only allow to come in the class at pick up time, not during the day, someone will stop you right at the door. You have to sign a ton of documentation, one of which says you agree to not sue the center for any and all reasons. Be ware! read more

WE LOVE MAGIC HOURS!! My son went here for TK. If I knew it was gonna be such a great school, I would have brought him sooner! The staff are great! Ms. Ginette, Ms. Holly, Ms. Chloe, Ms. Sumana, and everyone else! The environment is very clean and they make sure to check the kid's temperature before they enter their classrooms. Masks are optional, which is also great! My son has always been watched at home so I was really nervous. He's really shy but when he's all warmed up, he's a blast! Once he got used to the routine and everyone here, he wouldn't even say bye to me. Literally just walk past me like I wasn't even there! LOL! The kids were very kind and he even made a few friends! My son attended Magic Hours (MH) daycare from age 18 to 26 months (8 months total). We enrolled him because of the many positive reviews we read on the web. Unfortunately, our son's stay did not end well and in hindsight we would have not enrolled him at MH if we had anticipated the possibility of the problems we encountered. Thus, I feel obligated to post a review of our experience as a counterpoint to all the positive reviews to help inform prospective parents. PROS: - My son liked the toddler program for the first 6 months, which had a low 4:1 student-teacher ratio, and there were virtually no problems reported. He was frequently praised for being a friendly, cheerful and happy boy that they really liked. - We found them to have a clean and secure environment - They provided all meals (2 snacks and lunch) which my son ate without problems - Admins communicate in detail and are prompt in responding to questions sent via the mobile app CONS: - They are extremely strict in their sick policy. My son was sent home several times for a "runny-nose" despite no fever or impact to overall health, and was required to stay home the next day as well. My wife and I both have demanding software engineering jobs, so this caused some major disruption and stress for us. - Though they use the ProCare app, we had no info on what goes on during the day, except for a couple of infrequent pictured uploaded once every week or two. This is in contrast to other places using the same app, that send daily updates on diaper changes, meals, naps, and also post pictures frequently. - The tuition is higher than other places we checked in Mira Mesa (I estimate 25-30% more), and in hindsight I personally didn't feel I got any benefit from paying this premium. - My son got moved to the older class with a 12:1 ratio as soon as he turned 2 years. He is a bit delayed in his speech (note that MH requested us to start him on speech therapy which we complied with ASAP), and the difficulties he had adjusting to the new class were not tolerated well by his new teacher and we suddenly started getting frequent complaints. The first few CONS were tolerable, but the last one was the final straw. After getting frequent complaints from the teacher for the first few weeks in the new class, she then wrote the attached letter which called my son "disruptive and sometimes detrimental" to the class. It goes on for 4 pages criticizing him using puzzling technical lingo (such as "sensory seeking") and unseemly euphemisms (such as "inappropriate touching") without providing any tangible and actionable feedback for us. Keep in mind he just turned two. It was distressing to read a letter so critical of a friendly, playful 2 year-old trying to adjust to a new environment while going through the frustrations of learning to communicate. The harsh, cold and clinical tone was jarring, and moved my wife to tears reading it, and we felt compelled to look for another daycare despite the associated hassle. We felt our son should be in a place that's kind, nurturing and supportive as he goes through his terrible-twos, in contrast to the attitude MH displayed in this letter. One final note three weeks into his new preschool after moving him from MH, our son seems to be doing well. We have heard nothing but nice things about him from the staff, and his speech seems to be developing much better. We are also saving tuition cost. Note that the administrator of MH has a proclivity for quick and verbose responses, so I expect there will be a long rebuttal from her. From my experience, MH might be fine for any kids that fit within their strict guidelines and expectations. However, if you have a child such as ours that is lagging the curve in any way and needs extra attention, I think you should consider our experience before enrolling him/her. read more

Horrible daycare! I definitely not recommend to put your child in this institution. On a first look they appear to be nice, but that is not true. This is the prison for the kids, you as a parent can not even see what is your child doing there. The same as other parents wrote here in the reviews...after reading all reviews I understood where we put our child and I was super sad. First week for our 2 year old daughter was quite ok, she was ok there they told us. Then suddenly the second week they called us from the school around 11am that we should pick up our daughter, that she is crying. And this happened 5 days every day, they didn't try to help her or to calm her down. Just every day the same story - she is too emotional! But kids in this age are emotional and its their job to help her to accomodate it. But they didn't even try as they called us already at 11am, after 2 hours of being her there. We have some non school related health issues and they have always provided amazing support, not to mention checking in on us to ask if they can help with anything. MH is a great school!! My son attended MH for the summer of 2022 only but the progress he made was well beyond our expectations. I wish I would have brought him sooner to this school. Ms. Holly is great and gave us constant reports on how my son is doing. Very much over due, but finally taking a moment to express how wonderful Magic Hours and Ms Holly have been and continues to be for my daughter's early education and development. My daughter started at Magic Hours the day after her 2nd birthday in June 2018. I was slightly scared to take her out of the in-home day care she was at, but it all went away once we met Ms Chloe. She made our shy girl feel welcome and loved and helped her blossom. Ms Atyah is another wonderful teacher who has been an integral part of my daughter's development. She started T-K last year with Ms Sumana and she instantly became one of my daughter's favorite people. Ms Ginette and Ms Melissa are amazing too. My daughter loves the school so much and enjoys learning, playing and of course, all the arts and crafts activities! While she loves spending time with the family when we go on vacations, she always misses her friends and teachers. I was 8 months pregnant with my second daughter when Covid hit. Of course, all I felt was fear and anxiety. However, I felt like Magic Hours was doing everything right as far as Covid was concerned. Wearing masks, constant washing of hands, and enhanced sanitation all while still focusing on the kids development. After my maternity leave ended a couple of months later, I was able to send my older daughter back to Magic Hours knowing that they were doing everything they could to keep her safe. She has been thriving in T-K. So much so that we decided to keep her there for another year. She starts Kindergarten at Magic Hours tomorrow. While I'm sad that she is growing so fast, I am extremely happy with how well rounded she is for her age. She knows how to read so many words already and loves to read her own bedtime stories, well parts of it anyways. She loves to write little stories in her journal too. Our entire experience at Magic Hours has been wonderful! Our child attended for 3 1/2 years, starting in the toddler room (we give all the credit of potty training to Magic Hours in the toddler room!!) all the way through Kindergarten. The staff is 100% committed to treating each child individually and embracing their strengths. The communication and commitment to each family is very strong from the staff. Everyone was so kind and gentle in the care of our son. He felt completely at home going to school every day and had a great relationship with all his teachers. The education received and curriculum in place was beyond expectations. The classroom learning was always in depth and focused on the children developing and maintaining new skills. Our son was able to build his learning concepts easily throughout the years and enjoyed the classroom immensely. He's finished the Kindergarten program at Magic Hours and was completely ready for 1st grade at his new school. Not only do they provide a strong education, they encourage individuality of the student and help each child embrace their strengths and grow to be confident in themselves. This was truly a huge help throughout the years as our son grew and developed as time went on. And, they provide the children with so many fun activities and themed celebrations. There was always something exciting going on weekly that the children looked forward to and were excited to participate in. The teachers love celebrating the children and all their students' accomplishments. When the pandemic hit, Magic Hours kept the entire situation calm and was 100% transparent with the families. They worked so hard to keep the students and families up-to-date with the most current guidelines, while maintaining as much normalcy for the children as possible. My daughter has only attended Magic Hours for about 6 months until our move across country. But during that small time frame, she has learned so much. Her vocabulary shot up, discipline was easier to establish, and she looked forward to school everyday. I love and trust the staff at Magic Hours. I completely agree with the Recca G's review.My son went there from August last year till early May 2023, starting with their 1 to 2 years program then was moved to 2-3 years class the day he turned 2. MHs would call me randomly between 9:30 to 10:30am to pick up my kid for minor reasons like conjestion or runny nose or ask me to pick him up early on a friday of a long weekend.Being a sofware engineer in this market it was so inconvenient for me.I didnt see this behavior from other daycares around the area and in addition their fees is much higher compared to other daycare/preschool around the area which quite honestly is not worth it. Wish I had seen these reviews that are popping up now a year back, i would have never put my son in MHs.I put him now at another daycare and he is quite happy there without any stress that he was under at MHs.This organization is extremely nitpicky about everything which is stressful for parents as well.Another thing i found strange was they dont provide any updates for the kids on their app other than infrequent photos every few weeks, its like a blackbox.Future parents, if you are considering putting your kid in 2-3 year old class please be aware of these points, If i had the knowledge of these points i would have 100% not put my son here. read more

My son attended Magic Hours from December 2015 to June 2017. He was 3 when he started and left at 4 1/2 years old. I can't say about good things about Magic Hours and it's staff. Mrs/Ms. Holly , Geanette, Carla, Sarah, Melissa , Atyah, Jessica, Chloe and all of them who took care of my son and treated him so well I will always be thankful for. If I had to narrow it down to the one thing I truly appreciate the most , is that Mrs. Ginette was the first one to honestly let me know my son may need speech and occupational therapy. It must be hard to tell parents that and she was the first one to notice that and let is know. On top of that, she actually took time out to attend my son's initial assessment meeting with the school district and speak to the team there about Adam. This was way above and beyond what a daycare center would do and i will always appreciate what they did to give me son such care and attention. I did not want to take him out but due to my wife losing her job and staying home anyways we had no choice. I have been sending my 4 yrs old and my 2.5 yrs old to Magic Hours for about 2.5 months. I was extremely nervous and didn't know what to expect because both of my kids have been watched at home and never attended any daycare/preschool before. The facility is very clean and has abundant of toys and activities for children to do. There are many pros to this facility and staff but the biggest pros that stands out are 1. All staff are extremely nice and personable. They remembered my kids name and my name from day one of me inquiring about the program. 2. My 2 yrs old, all she talks about is Ms. Chloe. I have to admit... even I am very fond of Ms. Chloe. I have a very busy schedule with school and work. When I pick up my kids and see Ms. Chloe, she always give me some type of feedback on how my kid's day went. One day, she approached me and said, I really think your girl is ready to be potty trained. That weekend I potty trained her and now she's been going to the school without a diaper and has been very good with it. My son has completed Kindergarten now and is entering the first grade. We're still thankful that he attended Magic Hours. My wife and I both feel that he got a great head start by going to this school/daycare. He was doing a lot better than many of the other kids in his class right from day one, and I give some credit to his time here. Also, a big thing - he was already used to being dropped off for class, and was secure in his knowledge that we would be there to pick him up when the day was done. He didn't waste any valuable learning time crying for us! This is NOT the place for my kid. In my opinion, this should not be the place for any kids. My son has been going to daycares and preschools since he was 4 months old, now he's 2 years old. He's the most sociable kid I know - happy, smiling, initiating conversations with anyone he sees. He was miserable in the 4 weeks he spent in Magic Hours. That resulted in my wife and I being miserable as well. My son attended this school about 4 weeks from March 26th to April 20th, 2018. I will lay out all the specific situations and concerns and it's up to each parent to decide if this is the place for their kid. Here is the list: 1. Your kid will be attending a black box, meaning that you are not allowed to see him/her during the day or check on them. It is not easy to know if your kid is happy or not during his day. This is different from any pre-school we attended before. The other pre-schools all had open door policy, not Magic Hours though; they would tell you that this will disrupt the program. To me, this is baloney. 2. Unreasonable staff and complete lack of flexibility. To me a key point in choosing a pre-school is helping the parents to raise their kid while giving them an opportunity to do other things in their life (e.g. work, exercise, etc.) with peace of mind. If you agree with this, don't go to this pre-school. Here are a few examples: a. We had to schedule our son for his 2-year checkup and vaccination. They would not allow him back in school although his appointment was at noon and the school closes at 6. This is NOT even written in their parents' handbook which they will threaten you with whenever you try to talk some sense in to them. This also occurred although I confirmed with Ms. Ginette that it would be ok to bring him back but then she changed her mind. b. My son had a nasal discharge (one that happens almost 10 times a year to any kid in his age). We were notified that we have to immediately pick him. My wife said she will take him to his doctor to get him cleared so that he can return back to the daycare the following day. However, they forced my wife to sign a handwritten document that says that even if the doctor clears him, he cannot come back. I really could not believe this! The pediatrician was furious at them - see the note attached. The pediatrician advised us to change the school as they are unreasonable. I saw my son when I returned home and he was completely fine. c. I ran 4 minutes late on 1 day, I called and gave them a heads up - they charged me $18 (See the note attached). I could not care less about the $18 but this cannot be a place where friendly happy people raise happy kids. d. If you like to take your time a little to bring your kid in the morning, they will NOT take him. All kids have to be at school by 9 a.m. or they won't be admitted. 3. My son always comes home starving from this school - genuinely starving. I never see him eating and drinking that much in such a small period of time. Obviously he does not eat there but they would not tell us and as stated earlier there is no way to know what happens in the black box. 4. My 2-year old has been telling us for 4 weeks and we have not listened. Every single morning he would cry and say these words in tears 'I don't want to go to the new daycare' - well he says it in Arabic (he's bilingual) but you get the point. Never that was the case for any of the prior schools he attended. We pushed him to go, I was wrong to do so. 5. The attitude - OMG! I work with lots of people and in large teams and I rarely get to deal with such condescending people. 6. They don't allow your baby to wear a onesie because they don't have time to undo it!!!! 7. They don't apply sunscreen although they let the kids out (or so they say) Bottom line is AVOID Magic Hours Children's Center at Mira Mesa by all means. read more

Where do I even begin! My child has been at MH for a little over a year now after being at home with me for the first two years. After visiting about 5 daycares in the area, MH was my last stop and our biggest blessing. The staff is caring, knowledgeable, great at communicating and they truly LOVE what they do. This is not just oh I just do it to have a job and get a check for them. A few weeks after my son started they asked to meet with me due to him possibly being delayed in speech. Some parents automatically get offended, not me I listened we talked they gave me recommendations, what to do at home, things to look for, things they've seen in the past, I valued what they had to say due to their years of experience. I went got a referral and sure enough my son had a speech delay which the doctor said every kid is different he'll catch up. Speech made a world of a difference, he's thriving now! Being in the education field made my choice for daycare very meticulous. My son has been attending magic hours for almost 2 years now and I have to say that it has been an excellent experience. Every child starts with an anxiety of separation but adding the fact that English wasn't his first language made things harder. The teachers were very patient and nice. I cannot express enough how much I love this school. After looking at no less than 30 preschools over the course of a year, I knew that when I saw Magic Hours, it was the place my son had to be. Our experience at this school has exceeded all expectations we ever had of a school (and they are very high expectations). The school is ALWAYS sparkling clean, organized and smells goods. The teachers are so incredibly warm and welcoming. A big reason why we chose this school is because of the teachers we met during our initial tour. They know their students in and out and tailor their teaching style to meet the needs of the individual. The director is VERY involved, knows every kid and gives extremely helpful feedback to the parents. The school provides all food so the parents don't have to worry about that at all. The outdoor play area is very large and mostly shaded. The school calls if there is anything off with the child that day and they provide detailed feedback for each child at the end of the day. They have very good security measures in safe so I feel very comfortable with my son being there every day. Every single time I pick my son up from school, all of the kids are calm, listening and playing nicely. This school is TRULY magical. I feel bad that it has taken me this long to leave a review, but better late than never, right? After looking at a couple of places I decided to take my youngest son to Magic Hours. Like most parents, I was nervous to leave him there, even if it was only three times a week for half days, but from the first moment he set foot in the classroom I knew it was time for me to let go. I expected tears and all I got was a wave goodbye. He was happy to be going to school and play with his friends and I was glad that the teachers allowed both play time and writing/work time. I was really impressed that the parents are given the curriculum schedule three months ahead of time. Everyone there was great! My girl was 2 and half year old when we tried to transit her from a small home daycare to preschool. 1.She only knows English and speaks really well. It took the staff around a couple of weeks to realize this. They were surprised she even speaks. Moral : Don't assume that indian americans kids don't speak english. Talk to them, I don't pay $1000 for zero care and just food for my child. When a 2-year old joins, they will have stranger anxiety. It is your job and not that of a behavioral specialist to help out a little! 2. She needed little hand holding to get acclimatized to the new environment and start mingling with kids.The staff/caretakers provided none except gossiping about my kid in broad daylight and that so loud and clear that my two year old could understand it and get disappointed. What we got the worst experience ever. Whenever I went to pick her up, I found her crying and anxious to leave home. Look no further parents- you have found your child's home away from home! Magic Hours Preschool and Kindergarten is a hidden gem in Mira Mesa and the BEST kept secret. When my child was ready for preschool, I was that anxious parent- hesitant to drop off my child at a large center with complete strangers. I researched so many preschools in the area, even looking up their records with Dept. Of Social Services, and Magic Hours immediately rose to the top. After my tour, it became apparent that this place was the happy medium between a home and structured environment that my 2 year old needed. And 3.5 years later, I am happy to report that sending my child to Magic Hours was one of the best decisions. The people here have become our second family, and it's not just us, all of my child's classmates felt the same. The staff, the administrators and the Director truly love what they do and care for each child like their own. There is very little turn over in staff- an important indicator in assessing how well a facility is run. Moreover, the children who graduate from the program excel beyond their grade level- my kindergartner was doing first grade level work! Each day has a different theme and the teachers provide a fun, loving, supportive, and caring environment for the children to grown in socially, developmentally and intellectually. The school provides all the delicious, nutritious meals and snacks which is so convenient for a working mom like me! I would be remiss if I did not mention that Magic Hours was on the absolute forefront of health & safety during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Very early on, the Director implemented masks for all (even for the smallest children), created desk space so kids were socially distanced and ensured well-ventilated classrooms by opening all windows-- this made all the difference in keeping the kids safe. And over these 1.5 years, I have observed strict compliance to these standards. Moreover, we are so grateful that the Director re-opened their accredited kindergarten last year after seeing the need and demand for it. My child has fond, life-long memories of their time at Magic Hours, as does our entire family. My next child is ready to start preschool and I am so excited to begin the journey again. I recently enrolled my 4 years old daughter and 2 years old son to Magic Hours Children's center and I love service the director provide and how friendly the teacher are to my kids. The center only have 3 class rooms and very intimate. They have their trial period this past Thursday and this day happen to have real live pony come to the center to allow children's to pat and ride them. My kids enjoy this day. I like how involved the director are to each class rooms and spend time to talk each parents. She is very personal with each of the parents. Her character and customer service was superior and put me at ease that my kids will be well taken care of while I start work. One things she mention to me is that if my children misbehaves they will give them chance to redeem themselves before sending them to time out so that children can gain more positive experience instead of negative experience. All three of my children have attended Magic Hours and I can honestly say that Magic Hours has become part of our family. Not only did my children walk into kindergarten more than prepared they walked away with tons of amazing memories. The staff at Magic Hours clearly love what they do and it shows. When I first moved out here to San Diego...I didn't see many day cares around and I was very nervous about finding one. One day I found this place after leaving another...All i have to say is, the people there are THE best. Ms. Patty, Ms. Holly, Ms. Mariam, Ms. Kim...All of them were like family. They are really really good with children. You will be at work knowing that your kids are being well taken care of and having a good time. Of course, day care is expensive. My boys currently attend Magic Hours and they absolutely love it as do I. From the moment you walk in you are welcomed into a very comfortable setting and the classrooms are just as inviting to the kids. The teachers are fabulous and you can not ask for any more. Our daughter attended Magic Hours full-time from 3 years old (room 2) to 5 years old (room 3). She has had a wonderful experience, learning and making new friends. All of the teachers are wonderful, caring, and supportive. The school administrator is fantastic! My husband and I have visited at different times of the day and have always been impressed by what we have observed. The teachers are well organized, the children are learning and playing well with each other, and the school is kept very clean. That is the worst daycare ever. I sent my 2-year-old daughter there for 2 weeks, first week as half day and second week as full day. Her teacher (Ms. Debbie) seriously lacks of patience, and does not seem to be a very caring person. My daughter was quite sturborn, and she cannot bound with somebody who does not care about her enough. The first week was okay, but after two days of second week which is full-time for her, the daycare called me and said that she cried too much which was disturbing to others, and I have to get her out of there. We were also told that even for the next day, if she cannot stop crying, somebody has to be there with her all the time. I thought about it overnight, but I did not want her to always expect somebody to be with her for the future days, so I went there next day and tried to leave her alone. And Ms. Debbie said that she cannot stay, and I said we cannot be with her all day long, then she said to me: I don't think you understand and I am done talking to you!! I was extremely angry and felt sad for my daughter. I really cannot let somebody like that to be my baby's teacher. We continued for two days more, with somebody accompanying her. Even like that, she was asked to go back home because she cannot stop crying. I was really really upset about it, and to be honest, for that week, I cried more than my daugther. I cannot believe that somebody like that could be a teacher for 2-year old kids. So we decided to quit the school. I really think they should change the teacher for the 2-year old class. I've sit there for a morning to be with my daughter, and I don't think Ms. Debbie has enough caring and patience to be with kids. My baby liked some other teachers in school, one of the 3-year old class teacher was very very nice and always tried to play with her. I think her name is Erren. read more
