TLDR: Super fun rafting experience, difficult to find the lodging area, lunch provided was yummy. Would definitely do this again. We had a party of 12 staying at the Airbnb lodging from Friday to Sunday and participated in the rafting on Saturday. Weather is hard to plan for but in August, it felt like the chances of warm/hot weather would be decent. Unlucky for us, it was quite cloudy and chilly-hovering 60's. Rafting Experience 5/5 - Everybody had a great time!! Strapped on helmet and lifejackets to start the day and then took a bus up the river. Each boat had a 'guide' and our guide (Bryan/"Viking") was awesome. He told us great stories and facts throughout the ride and helped carefully steer us through some intense rapids. The last.. maybe half hour.. of the rafting was fairly quiet and not intense at all. This would've been fine if it was hot and sunny but the weather was super cloudy, chilly, and windy. Not ideal when you're drenched. Airbnb Lodging 3/5 - Plenty of clean beds that could fit a large party. They also had a large dining room table and an open kitchen. We were not able to get Wi-Fi unfortunately and the tv didn't connect to anything. Not a fan of the carpet flooring in one of the two bathrooms. Food 5/5 - They served lunch right after the rafting experience and the food was great!! We had the option of beef, chicken, and vegetarian. Came with rice pilaf, coleslaw, bread roll, and a slice of cake. Everything was yummy, some folks were able to get seconds as any leftovers were going to be tossed. Service 5/5 - Staff were all super friendly and happy to help. Knowing we're not from the area, they tried to offer us solutions to any problems we ran into. Great group of folks to work with. Location.. 1/5 - We had a huge group (3 cars) going up from Boston after work on a Friday (about 4.5-5hr drive) so we all got to the area very late at night. The drive wasn't that bad but finding the Airbnb Lodging was very difficult. Since it was after work hours, late at night, nobody picked up when we tried calling for assistance. There are just not enough guidance around the area to show customers where to park or how to find their lodging. We had to circle the site a few times before we realized where the building was. On our second night, we encountered a couple that were lost and had trouble looking for their lodging area. read more

THis was our 6th year in a row heading up to the Forks and the Magic Falls Rafting team. They never disappoint. We have a blast from the time we pull in until the time we pass the birdhouses and are treated so well. Our guides this year were Sean and Brandon (sometimes he brings the wood) and they took us through some great runs!! We also got to meet the new owner! I had such an amazing rafting experience yesterday with my son and his girlfriend. We were treated so well, and our guides Chris, Travis and Brandon were superb. The Kennebec river has such amazing rapids, and our trip was truly spectacular. We feasted on a sensational BBQ lunch which included your choice of baked fish, chicken, steak or veggie burger. The meal was accompanied with rice pilaf, roll and butter, cole slaw and a chocolate chip/M&M cookie. Owner Dave cooked the food perfectly and was so warm and welcoming. Magic Falls Rafting - 'Nuf said! - Rafting/Kayaking Near Me - West Forks, Maine

This experience was great and I will definitely be going back! From top to bottom it was a positive time. Talking with Shelly on the phone to make reservations was easy and she was super nice and not annoyed at my 1000 questions (at least outwardly annoyed haha). During the trip we interacted with 3 guides (a camera operator, a guy on a kayak "running safety", and the actual raft guide). All 3 were super knowledgeable, good at their jobs, and super fun to be around. The base camp is nice. You have the big tent-cabins and fire pits, which is usually the way to go, but they also have the lodge where you can sleep in a regular bed which was nice for me and my girlfriend as we decided last minute to ride motorcycles up and did not want to waste space on sleeping bags/etc. The day we went the river was pretty crowded and it seemed like a lot of other rafting companies were trying to make the experience into some kind of team building exercise, having everyone cheer together and chant and stuff. The Magic Falls people were much more lade back and just there to make sure everyone had a good time and enjoyed themselves. The after rafting lunch/dinner was great, the price is great, and the lodging pricing is so reasonable that is almost doesn't make sense to only go for 1 day! Next year we will definitely be going back and doing the regular drip and Dead River trip back to back. PS. Good for Couples, Large and Small groups, Families, and pretty much most people! read more

First time white-water rafting and this experience blew all my expectations out of the water! Dave, our guide, was so knowledgeable about the Kennebec River and was hilarious. They go through all safety protocol and we felt balanced with safety precautions and the thrill of risk. Once you return, they host a BBQ with delicious rolls, cole slaw, seasoned rice, chocolate chip cookies, and your choice of chicken/steak/fish/veggie burger. Additionally, they have sweet home-video style photographs & video available for purchase after the trip. Next time, we might try out the overnight cabins they have on site. Nine of us rented two cabin tents for two nights. These cabins don't have doors but just a screen and a curtain. We were there on a cool night (40 degrees) so the cabins were cold inside. There's no firewood on site so we picked up dead trees around the premise. Each fire pit has a grill grate which is a nice perk. And even though the website says the cabins are equipped with electricity, there's one lamp hooked up to an extension cord hanging off the wall so don't expect to charge all of your phones overnight (unless you want to bring a power strip but you may need to ask first). We chose Kennebec over Dead river because it was slightly cheaper and less aggressive and we didn't want to take the 45 min. bus ride from the site to the river. We also had two newbies as well. In hindsight, we should've chosen Dead river. We were there the first weekend in May and while it was a lot of fun, half of the 13 mile river run was just floating around. Not that exciting. As a reference, Kennebec starts with Class 3-4 (higher the class, bigger the rapids) then ends with Class 1, whereas Dead starts with 4-5 and ends with 3-4 so it's a much more exciting river than Kennebec. Our guide Mike, was excellent -- friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. In fact, all staff members were super friendly and helpful. Tips are encouraged so bring cash even though the site accepts all forms of credit cards. We gave him $5 each. The BBQ meal provided after the rafting was excellent. Choose chicken or fish over the steaks. Most of us opted for the red meat but they were all overcooked and full of fat with very little seasoning. My friends' chicken or fish were so much better in comparison. The meal also comes with rice pilaf, coleslaw, bread/butter, and a dessert cake. All were delicious. Overall, we had a great time but my main complaint was the facilities. There's just one toilet for mens bathroom and two coin-operated shower stalls. The site had four large groups, mostly men and men who drank all weekend. At one point, some of us were sneaking into womens bathroom to use the toilet. I can't imagine what it would be like to be there during peak summer season. Ugh! And the shower stall requires .50 to operate the hot water which only lasts 5 min. tops. Next time, we may opt to use our own tents or pay more to stay at their fancier lodge instead. read more

Had an awesome time!!!! The staff were friendly. They also gave safety speech on what to do and what not to do. The staff made sure that everyone's lift vest was secure. My friends and I did the cheap thrill, which is shorter than the other options but well worth it. We had Jason as our guide and he gave us great instructions. We had a blast! Rebecca was an excellent guide! We started with getting our gear, listening to the safety instructions and then the bus ride to where we put the raft in the water. Rebecca kept us well informed about the river and on her instructions that kept us safe and happy! We were able to get in and ride the rapids a couple times. We had cool challenges and it was very exciting! Afterwards we got back on the bus and returned to base camp for lunch, the steak was very tender and blueberry crumb cake was delicious. My boyfriend dragged me into the hell that is the deep woods of northern Maine one weekend last summer for what he assured would be a fun time and what I was convinced would be the death of me. He's been rafting with his buddies for well over a decade now and wanted me to experience the fun. And you know what? Despite my initial reluctance, oh what fun it was. We bunked in the lodge the first night and woke up to home made raspberry muffins baking in the oven. Then we suited up and headed out to the Kennebec river and when I caught sight of the first wave we were headed into, I may or may not have let out a loud sissy scream, but as it splashed over us in the boat, it dawned on me that this was a-w-e-s-o-m-e. After 3 hours on the river, they bring you back to camp and grill you up a massive lunch so you can refuel, and then you go and watch a video they were shooting of you the whole time you were rafting so you can see your "Oh Sh*t" face up close and in slow motion. This year marked the second time I've rafted with Magic Falls and I have, literally, nothing negative to say. Both times we had an awesome guide, both times we hit the best parts of the river, and both times I gorged on baked potatoes, grilled steaks and home made apple cake. They were even nice enough to send me a hand written note complete with the recipe. They're strict on safety so don't worry about washing downstream alone, but they won't treat you like a child, either. If you've never rafted, do it - and do it with Magic Falls. I'm already planning my trip for next summer. read more

I have been rafting with Magic Falls about a dozen times and they go beyond the extra mile to make the experience a positive one. Last year, my car died about 20 miles away and Don drove me and my friends down after out trip and meal was over. This summer, I found myself on an unplanned trip to Maine and called after hours. They set me up with a couple of rooms and squeezed us in for the following morning. Great day, awesome people and a good meal and video before the trip back to NY. I went here this past Memorial Day weekend with my boyfriend. We rented one of the 8 person tent type things which was pretty much army style barracks. It was pretty comfortable but it was pretty chilly. We should have brought more blankets. Also, there were 2 outlets in there, which had I known I would have brought some other things. It was great because we were able to have bonfires each night in our own individual spot. The staff there was amazing. We really loved all the guides (Nate, Cory, Joe, etc.). They all had huge personalities and were really helpful. They gave us great recommendations for where to eat and what to do. The rafting itself was unreal. I've been rafting in Costa Rica and this was totally laid-back, you pretty much get to run the show. The day we rafted the Dead river on a high release day with Cory. The rest of our group was all boyscouts so it was a bit conservative. We had one of the scouts fall out on the first rapid and he essentially was hyperventilating until we dropped him on shore to go back to camp with the bus driver. We still hit some great rapids and Cory had control of the raft the whole time, I felt very safe and it was definitely a good time for everyone. The next day we rafted the Kennebec with Nate, we had a smaller group and we were all athletes so we got to do a lot of really cool stuff. My boyfriends goal the whole time was to get thrown out of the raft (he's 6'5" 250lbs) and he fell out 3 times on this second trip. At one point we intentionally flipped the raft and Nate got it right back up. There were a lot of things that Nate said he wouldn't have done unless we all wanted to and he was sure that we could handle it and he definitely took us for a ride! We had an amazing time and will definitely be back and requesting Cory and Nate as our guides! read more

My actual adventure with Magic Falls Rafting was 16 years ago. Better late than never to share what an awesome memorable adventure that my friends from the UK and I had on the Kennebec. I recently watched the video of that great time and great memories to still have all these years later. So glad to have the video and actual photos - why tell people what a great time you had, when you can show them. Magic Falls is not the biggest or fanciest outfitter out there but their family operation does a their own thing really well. They got a very clean and hospitable lodge that is basically a big bed and breakfast. There's a kitchen although they had some issue with past guests and cooking was off limits (but fridge, microwave and sink use was ok). And they've got good friendly staff. Their basecamp also had camp sites and cabin tents. They could use some extra signs to direct folks where to go but it was all pretty close together. The raft trip was well organized and trip was a lot of fun. The guide, Bobby, was great and I'd be thrilled to use his services again. The post-trip food was surprisingly good with your typical choice of beef, chicken, fish, or veggie. This also came with cole slaw, rice pilaf and dessert. The camp also has an outdoor climbing wall, which was unclear on who could use it or if you can setup the top ropes. The rafting trip was about $45 and the lodging was $75 for the room. read more

Magic Falls is amazing, if you are going to go rafting do it with this place!!! Me and 8 of my friends just went for the weekend and we had such an amazing time we are all talking about next year. We did the Adult Outback package which was such a great value for the money. We paid a little extra to stay Friday night so we would be there in the morning to raft. We stayed in the cabin tent, which was fun. I would bring a power strip so you have more outlets, there is only one in there. It was all the greatness of camping without the hassle. The food all weekend was awesome, and we didn't even need the snacks we brought because we were all stuffed from the meals. We rafted the river twice, first day we had Dave as a guide who was an amazing guy and who made us feel special all weekend and went above and beyond for everyone all weekend! Most of us were first timers and he made us feel safe and we all had a great time. The second day we had Billy as a guide who was an awesome guy who we had interacted with at the store, he was great and also went above and beyond. He was lots of fun! For our hike to moxie falls we had Justin who was also a great guy full of info and who didn't laugh at us out of shape city folk who struggled a bit! It was not a hard hike at all but wear sneakers. All the guides do multiple things so you see them running, serving food, working the store, and they all did it with a smile and were so friendly! The store onsite was really reasonable and had ice, wood, coffee in the morning, amongst anything else you needed, and it did not screw you on the prices it was cheaper than the store down the street. I cannot say enough about this experience with Magic Falls, we all cannot wait until next year! read more

We took a troop of boy scouts up for an unforgettable rafting trip down the Kennebec river. Our guide Pebbles had terrific knowledge of the river and we had an amazing day. The rapids at the top of the run were class 4, and plenty challenging for all of us. She made the trip really exciting, taking us right into the rapids for direct hits on the biggest waves. The trip was a true adreniline rush and a perfect way to spend a gorgeous September afternoon. We stayed in the cabin tents, which were actually pretty comfortable, but it would have been a bit easier if they would fix the roll up canvas shades on the sides so they could be tied up to let air in. I tried to hold them up with duct tape, but it wouldn't hold. It would be a quick, inexpensive thing to fix and would make it easier for their guests. There's one outlet and a light, which is a nice touch, but if you're thinking about charging a bunch of things you may want to check and see if it's OK to plug in a strip. The lunch after the rafting was delicious. We had the steak with mashed potatoes, cole slaw and homemade apple cake. Would do this trip again in a minute! read more
