Let me put it this way...............
this is NOT a soul station nor a minority-owned
station that tries to please the listeners.
The ownership is/are old radio people located
out of state who devoured a poorly performing
Mexican-family owned Tijuana FM stick that just
couldn't find it's footing in English, despite
decades of previous successes and many flops.
Present ownership/programmer is doing
on-air aerobics to keep a listener
on here for more than 2 songs.
Cholillo-format? Not quite, they
just play it off like that to appease
the mainstream San Diego audience.
From Nationwide insurance cast-off down
the dial, to a failed all you can eat buffet,
this is the on-air aftermath remaining.
If your expecting a really Soulful (R&B)
radio station on this stick, it's AWOL.
If the station is built around the morning team,
it's kinda' flat and predictable, minimal of
talent or charisma, either the dude or the lady.
"War of the Roses" segment about as dated as
MC Hammers size 48L baggies from 1998' he
bought in downtown Oakland.
Can you imagine being an advertiser and
depending on that type of listener to
fill your coffers?, (unless you deal
in child custody/criminal law or such).
One thing I enjoy about San Diego
is how stuck in a certain lifestyle
the radio/tv media seems to be, it is highly
obvious listening to this station for
a few days now, then again, we're there
no 92.5, what choice would you then have
for your plate-fixin' of R & B in San Diego?
Sunday night host tries very hard, the man
there is knowledgeable, (I recall him from L.A.),
he does what he can very aptly to please
older, faithful S.D. black listeners in 1st hour, then has
to put himself through the torture of catering
to every lovesick poucho/poucha requesting "Thin Line
Between Love and Hate" or something as
seriously juvenile relationship-strenuous while
pimping his apparent Fili-Mexi-Poucho heritage
that gets old after a minute of listening to.
Take it or leave it, "3" is being generous, were
this station any other A/A predominant market
it'd be fortunate to claim 1/2 of 1 star.
Willie Morrow must be cursing a storm 'til 8PM.
Any wonder why no one takes San Diego
radio stations seriously? read more
