So going out into the world of DIY shops and at first using a lot of the big hardware chains and pound shops too I saw a range of prices from quite high (several pounds for a simple screwdriver) to low priced but terribly built items (screwdriver that barely holds it's shape and is thus useless). This experience left me wanting a more personal experience, one where I can tell someone what I need to do and they can use their expertise to help me get just what I need and at a reasonable price. I found that experience at Johnny's DIY. I have had much more DIY success since buying from them because they actually know what i need the tools for and give me honest advice to help me. I cannot suggest strongly enough that you visit Johnny's DIY for your next home improvement project.

Calneva is an Aladdin's Cave of 1950s and 1960s collectables. Though extremely small in size (it…read moremakes up one quarter of The Beehive store) it has a varied range of gifts, pieces for the home and accessories. The shop mainly stocks vintage fabrics, light fixtures, cocktail glasses and shakers (they have a lot of Baby Cham pieces), phones, luggage and figurines at a very reasonable price. I found an incredible 1950s leather vanity case, with a matching mirror, perfume bottle and powder case for only 32 pounds, in perfect condition with all of its original packaging and instructions in tact. The shop was previously owned by Flying Duck Enterprises who sold retro and vintage gifts, but also sold kitcsh reproduction gifts (think hideous Elvis clocks and Marilyn Monroe watches) I am pleased to say that the new owners have not succumbed- their stock seems entirely authentic and slogan free.

Nice & Cheap is exactly that, specialising in essential house wares such as cleaning products,…read morestorage solutions, cutlery and crockery. From the outside it looks like a pound shop but it is not. The goods are a little cheaper than you would find in a High Street shop. The owner seems to know her regulars well which made for a wholesome shopping experience. The shop is a bit of a tight squeeze though and customers often find themselves in the way of each other in the aisles. Not one for shopping with the kids. Parking is available directly outside the shop in the pay and display but you might struggle to find a spot as it is quite small and with a mini-supermarket next door, is quite a popular parking location.

Stan's DIY looks quite appealing and unique from the exterior - it has this great sign that spells…read moreout its name in pieces of wood. I definitely thought that was a cool feature. However, the shop itself is a little dated in terms of its stock and I would expect to be able to buy the latest state of the art DIY equipment here. Basic is probably the right word. It is a pleasant little place but everything is just so...... old. Maybe it should re-brand itself as an antique DIY store. Of course, you can stumble across (quite literally as it isn't particularly well laid out) the odd hammer and drill gun and some odd paints and pots but that is about it. I am no expert in DIY but even I struggled to find the absolute necessities here.

It's full of cute and quirky homewares, and Maze Hill is full of nail bars and chicken shops. I'm so pleased they've moved closer to where the action and pretty things are. This is where you come when you want to buy a fancy cushion (I'm an interiors blogger, I always want to buy fancy cushions). It's the place you'll decide that you simply cannot live with that funk teapot, even though you don't drink tea. It's the perfect place for presents when you've just run out of damn present good ideas. You'll spend too much money in here, you'll wish you living room looked JUST LIKE IT and you'll come out skipping a little bit. All that smiling totally justifies spending forty quid on a cushion. Probably.
