I hosted an event at Yamashiro's and was running late with getting my event coordination together. Magdalena's Flowers was a referral from the restaurant. Was very happy they suggested Ilga. I recently went to a baby shower where Ilga had provided the floral arrangements. The outdoor party was decorated with cabbage red carnations, marigolds and chrysanthemums and the expecting parents were adorned with gorgeous garlands using the three kinds of flowers. Ilga worked with my (now-)wife to design the floral arrangements for our wedding at the Casino Ballroom in Avalon on Catalina Island. I had worked with Ilga before so I knew that we would be able to work together to come up with flowers perfect for the occasion. The thing I like is that with her I can come to her with my own ideas, she listens, asks questions about things I might not have considered and then runs with it. What I've always ended up with has been an expression of my idea but executed in a way that I would've never thought up on my own. For a first date I asked her to make me a bouquet that was very naturalistic without any artificial elements. I also wanted something that would last. -- Ilga came up with a bouquet of eucalyptus flowers with the branches and leaves still attached. There was another similar flower that I didn't recognize in there as well. It was then tied with a rough twine and that was it. It was pitch perfect and loved by it's recipient. My date had never seen anything like that and it made a big impression. Okay, back to the wedding. My wife had a few ideas coming into it, she wanted to keep it simple, elegant and to match the art-deco design of the casino. I wanted to include elements in the boutonnières and center pieces that would be viable for people to grow later on. We ended up with beautiful bouquets of calla lilies for the bride and bridesmaids. For myself and the groomsmen we had boutonnières made with succulents and a small white flower. The center peices contained the same elements as the boutonnières. In the end it was pitch perfect and made our ideas look great. read more

I recently had the opportunity to work with Ilga for one of our weddings. She was extremely professional and always on top of things. Her work was exactly what she promised the bride. Her and her team were punctual and set up was done in the alloted time which is very important as a planner because this could delay some of the other details getting set up. My wife had spent a couple of weeks in hospital and I decided to splash out a bit on a really lovely arrangement this year for Valentines. I simply requested an arrangement with tulips and something that smells nice. The resulting arrangement was spectacular, crammed with tulips, small roses and other beautifully smelling flowers. The scent was beautiful and my wife was really blown away by them. A few days later the tulips really started to open up and it was like a beautiful floral explosion in a vase. Ilga from Magdalena Flowers is an extremely talented and creative florist! My best friend recently got married in a very small and intimate ceremony with a dinner following. I surprised them with the flower arrangements. My friend originally did not want to carry a bridal bouquet, and had not considered flowers for the tables. I exchanges some emails with Ilga, in which she asked all the right questions about the couple's personality and tastes, very personable, professional and knowledgeable at the same time. For inspiration I sent Ilga a snapshot of my friend's vintage lace wedding gown. She came up with the most beautiful center pieces and a bridal bouquet, that made my friend cry, saying it could not be more beautiful. The centerpieces were spot on for the couple's sophisticated but yet traditional taste. Ilga intuitively understands the importance of flowers for such a special event and how they create a festive mood and managed with little direction to create something that even the bride and groom (and I...) did not know we wanted until we saw it. I contacted Ilga via email from out of town to arrange and deliver some flowers to my husband for our anniversary. Throughout our correspondence, she was very personable, sweet, and professional. Since I don't know much about flowers, I described to her in detail the sentiment I wished to convey to my husband and told her what I could afford. She wrote back, saying she really appreciated that type of input and then proceeded to craft one of the most beautiful bouquets I have ever seen (she emailed me a few pics of the finished product--an extra nice gesture). Since giving wood is traditional for the 6th wedding anniversary, she even incorporated adorable wooden rosettes into the gorgeous arrangement of red roses and deep salmon-colored peonies. Ilga is an amazing florist. I was looking for peonies, I emailed her asking if it was possible to find them here in November. She responded very quickly and to my delight told me she can do it. She made an absolutely gorgeous arrangement. She is very friendly, polite and has nice personality. I actually met her in person and she explained to me what kind of arrangement she was going to do, which was very nice. The flowers were amazing.
