Parking is not so great. There is a garage, but if you can't climb hills or can't walk distances,…read morethis will be a challenge for you. Accessing the clinic is confusing. There is no clear marking or signage, inside the building when you walk in on the main level, which level the walk-in clinic is on. As an FYI, it's located on the lower level. I asked someone who worked in the building, what floor the clinic was located on and they told me the fifth floor. I take the elevator to the fifth floor and sign in and the receptionist is looking perplexed. I was asked did I have an appointment. I told her no and that I was told I didn't need an appointment for the walk-in clinic. She then tells me to go down the hall, to another elevator bank, take the elevator to the lower level and that's how you access the walk in clinic. I get to the receptionist at the actual walk in clinic and she asked me did I have an appointment. I told her that I did not and that I had spoken with someone on the phone who said I didn't need an appointment for this particular location at that particular time. She then tells me because they all of a sudden got crowded, that the next available appointment was two hours after the time that I arrive and that they weren't taking walk-ins. I told her this is not information that was given to me less than 15 minutes prior to me arriving. When I looked around the waiting room, there were two other people in the waiting room. She then asks would I like to fill out my paperwork since I was already there. I told her that I would and I did. I was seen by a nurse practitioner in a decent amount of time and I didn't have to stay for two hours. Why the two stars: Because what I was told on the phone and what I was told when I arrived were two different things and it was less than 15 minutes between the two. The receptionist was not exactly the most customer friendly person in the world. Within 12 hours of me going, I developed congestion after my initial with diagnosis and was refused a prescription for Mucinex D. Due to the backwards laws of Mississippi, you have to have a doctors prescription for medicines that contain pseudoephedrine due to the math addiction problem that everyone is having. Lastly, I give Baptist credit for having a clinic that you don't need an appointment for, but I would be mindful and cautious that if they do get busy, you will need an appointment and would just go ahead and call and make one, just to cover all of your bases.

My partner was crying and shaking from intense stomach pains, and when we got there the triage nurse acted like my partner was exaggerating the pain without even knowing what the problem was. We sat in the waiting room and my partner would periodically go to the bathroom to vomit. After several times of doing this and about 45 minutes of waiting she began to vomit blood. She informed the nurse who shrugged her off and said they were waiting on a room. After another hour of waiting we still had not been seen and my partner was delirious from pain, lack of sleep, and dehydration. The nurses showed absolutely no concern nor sense of urgency. Stay far away from this place unless you are actively dying.

It was a different time back then, but she forged ahead and became a great nurse due to the people she worked with who became family. But UMMC has always been number one when it came to caring for its patients, having the newest technology, the best bedside manner, and that great hospitality of asking, "How are you doing, and are you comfortable." These are questions they ask the family. So, you can imagine how wonderfully they treat their patients. When you step inside or outside Mississippi, people know about UMMC because this hospital has built a reputation for doing everything in its power to heal you and make sure you have the best doctors. As a child, when I was here for the summer visiting my grandma, she would take me to work with her for a few hours until my Uncles came to get me. I have walked these halls starting out as a child and into adulthood. So, today, I walked down memory lane again, admiring the familiarity of the rooms, hallways, and the digital clock I once stared at as I was getting a cast for my right arm or the stitches I was getting above my left eye. I kept Grandma and a host of her co-workers on their toes. But let me tell you what was really special today. Generations upon generations have followed in their parent's footsteps right here at UMMC. I was talking to my mom's doctor, and he picked up on my mom's maiden name. He smiled and said, "Your Grandma used to work here."
