This review is long long overdue because I have had an excellent experience at Madison Dental Art! Recently, I was having an issue with an infected implant. I was told by another dentist that it would probably need to come out. However, I visited the office and Dr. Weber is a tooth magician, a highly qualified, skilled periodontist that does implants. He's very knowledgeable and confident but in an unassuming way. His kind, calm, and personable manner makes you feel comfortable and relaxed. And, that very important. Also, I have an absolute dread of needles, but because I don't feel his needles my fears melt away. Dr. Weber took care of the infection in less than an hour and saved the tooth. Dr. Chao, Dr. Weber, and the entire staff have been especially kind, patient, flexible, and sweet to me. They make the entire experience very pleasant and welcoming. During an extended period of hardship, during which time I was unable to find a job, I was unable to see a dentist. Since I'd never had any problems with my teeth in the past, and wasn't feeling any pain, I thought I was OK for the time being. Unfortunately, I did not realize gum disease was developing. One day, while eating, I felt my teeth collapse. I first went to NY Presbyterian in Fresh Meadows, since they accepted Medicaid, and because they seemed to have a good reputation. We proceeded with extractions and deep cleanings. Given the choice between partial dentures and implants, I chose implants, and knew I'd have to pay out of pocket, which I was able to do from a modest inheritance that arrived six years late. Since NY Presbyterian turned out to be a negative experience, I searched for another dentist, and chose Madison Dental Art, mostly because of Dr. Weber's bio as a periodontist. Dr. Chao, who heads this practice, later told me that he had considered twenty periodontists before hiring him. At NY Presbyterian, I had been served by multiple highly disorganized staff, perhaps interns, who took turns scolding me.  In contrast, Dr. Chao sat me down before work began, and quietly asked what happened. He gave me a gentle pat on the shoulder, and assured me that everyone goes through a bad patch at some point. As the conversation briefly continued, I was grateful that someone was not assuming this was my fault, while showing respect and empathy. If I had continued at NY Presbyterian, I would have had to supply proof of ability to pay with the notarized original disbursement letter from the estate attorney. There were already scheduling problems brought on by their incompetent billing department, and their periodontist had limited availability. In contrast, at Madison Dental, since they did not accept Medicaid, I simply told them that I would be paying out of pocket. I was given straightforward patient forms to sign, and there were never any problems with billing or scheduling for over a year. In the beginning, two weeks' work had already added up to around $2,000, but they had yet to present me with a bill. When I inquired, I was assured a bill would be coming. When I asked how they could trust me all this time, they said it was assumed I would not have allowed the work to proceed if I could not pay. This made sense, and this is the kind of adult treatment I prefer. At NY Presbyterian, a group of staff persons commiserated together on where the implants should go, pointing to charts as if planning the Battle of Normandy. But Dr. Chao looked into my mouth, and within seconds arrived at the same conclusions they had. His charts were on touch screens that I could easily see for myself, he has a 3D panoramic X-ray, and when he injected my gums, I hardly felt the needle at all. After each visit at Madison, I received printouts showing diagrams of all my teeth, and a detailed report of what had been completed and what remained. Dr. Kim did fillings and other related work, Miu assisted, Dr. Weber did the implants, and Dr. Chao was on top of every detail throughout. The day when all work finally came to an end was bittersweet, as I was preparing to move out of state, and as Dr. Chao and I reflected on all that had been accomplished. I am now back in NY, and had to return for an adjustment. Dr. Chao gave me a discount, since my present insurance is not accepted. In the past, he had also offered ways for me to receive discounts, when possible, which I always appreciated. It seems increasingly rare to find people who actually do what they're supposed to do. But this was an excellent staff that was consistently kind and professional throughout. Sitting in the chair under Dr. Chao's assured hand and eye is like riding in a Rolls Royce. On top of his expertise and high standards, he's an exceptional human being who cares about his patients. Let's be real, a majority of us do not like going to the dentist. Then we found Madison Dental and they have completely changed my outlook on dentistry. The office is always pristine and shiny. We rarely have to wait and the receptionist is extremely sweet and diligent. As for Dr. Alexander he is by far the best professional, including medical doctors and dermatologists that I have ever had the pleasure in dealing with. He is extremely pleasant, patient and you can really feel how much he cares for his patients. He makes an uncomfortable experience into a somewhat pleasant one... and that is saying a lot my friends. I also have to commend the support staff, they are all very friendly and gentle. I can't recommend this place enough and this place deserves all the praise. They even offer Netflix as I waited, not that I had to wait long anyways. Watched them clear the waiting area of about 15 or so patients within 30 mins. The staff was supportive and friendly making patient experience their priority. I really like how the doctors and hygienists who worked on me walked me thru what they were doing and what they see. WOW! The new office is Incredible! Dr. Chao is awesome, very particular about his work and also his own worst critic. He'll perform work and keep going back to perfect it until he is happy that is can be no better. He tries to save your teeth instead of just recommending root canals left and right like some of my other ex-dentists. Here is my experience from the 3 visits I had around July 2016. Overall thoughts: Office is open on Saturdays (My understanding is that they have a part time dentist/hygienist there for Saturday coverage) Good time slots are hard to schedule. Saturday scheduling availability is very hard to get. Well maintained office. Professional attitude staff Dr. Chao wears this strange athletic suit. Not sure what's the story behind that. First Impression: The place does not look like a dental office. It looked like a design gallery. Office interior is very clean and polished. Front desk personnel is patient, yet stern Procedures performed: Visit 1. Standard cleaning (Saturday) Presumed part time periodontist/hygienist - white male, bald, early 30's Friendly guy, took his time explaining the procedure, attentive. Tried to sell me an invisalign package Visit 2. Deep cleaning - 2 quadrants Dr. Kim (dentist) performed my deep cleaning in one visit because the periodontist was out of office. He looks intimidating, but turns out to be a very thorough dentist in his procedures. He really took his time explaining the procedure and even drew diagrams (on napkins!) for my questions. Visit 3. Deep cleaning - 2 quadrants Do not remember the name of the hygienist - Indian female, 20's/30's. She is pleasant and tries to carry on a friendly conversation pre-procedure. Procedure itself is fine - nothing noteworthy. Visit 1(Standard cleaning) is entirely covered under my insurance Visit 2+3 (Deep cleaning) total cost is around $150 on my part. read more

I had to have a lot of work done, since I'd developed gum disease without knowing it, during a period of hardship that prevented me from getting my usual checkups. Since I didn't feel any pain while this was happening, I had no idea, especially as I'd never had problems with my teeth. After having a very bad experience in another office, I did quite a lot of research, before choosing Dr. Chao's office. Unlike the prior office I'd visited, Dr. Chao never made me feel that I had been negligent, or should be scolded like a child. Instead, he assured me that we all sometimes go through a bad patch at one time or another. He treated me with respect, as an adult, which I very much appreciated at that point in time. As the work commenced, I quickly saw that Dr. Chao had an expertise well above the norm. He later told me that he chose his periodontist from among twenty applicants he interviewed, if I understood him correctly. It also became clear that he has held the same standards for the rest of his staff as well, and I do mean all of them. The entire staff knows what they're doing, they were all very warm and supportive, and they all understood the meaning of customer service, which I find to be in short supply in this day and age. The physical office itself is clean, modern, and state of the art in every aspect. Much care has gone into this entire dental practice, well above average. The receipts I was given displayed meticulous and clear information at each step of the process. Dr. Chao was keenly aware of what every member of his staff was doing, and ensured that the work was coordinated. He had the final say, which also assured me throughout. staff is very rude and unprofessional. I would not recommend this place to anyone anymore. the fact that I had been a patient for years, they just hung up the phone. front desk has no customer service experience. I had to call everyday for 2 months to check the status of my PRIOR AUTHORIZATION. Also they had burned my face with a chemical trying to due an impression. I had photos sent to the provider and they try to say it was something else, when I work for a dermatologist who confirmed it was a burn. They don't ever change their gloves coming and in out of the rooms, mind you your supposed to change your gloves every time you walk out the rooms. They discharged me from the practice when I simply expressed that its been 2 months that I have been calling in regards to a prior authorization. Management literally told me I could not speak to the doctor after I had express his front desk staff was rude to me. I requested my medical records. They cant even spell my name right through messages or emails, mind you I have been a patient there for years. How is that I get treated with no respect and they discharge me from the practice because I simply expressed the staff is unprofessional. I never experienced this in my life especially working in the medical field. The way they had treated me as if they have done favors for me when I pay out of pocket for the services they provided to me. Its a shame that they treated me as if I have been such a difficult patient, I have been nothing but patience with them. Everyday for 2 months I heard the same thing someone will call you back. Started coming here a few years ago and saw Dr. Lin. He was friendly, gentle and thorough. Afterwards, i got switched to another dentist. Her name is Dr. Wong, and i've been seeing her for the past couple of years. She's also very friendly and thorough. I have tried to make appointment in the past whole month and finally set up an appointment 2 weeks before the day. I was told cancellation fee will be charged if not showing up. I took that day off my job specifically for this appointment and have been holding my breath for it. However on the late evening before the appointment day, I received a voice mail that my appointment was cancelled without explanation. I called back right away, however I was told the person knows left and the rest staff didn't know. I followed up straightly for 2 days and finally got in touch the person and was told that my insurance hasn't paid all the amount yet (but will). That's the reason my appointment was cancelled. In addition, I cannot get any new treatment before the insurance paid in full. 2 days struggling got the reason. I have paid out of pocket portion upfront for current treatment per their estimates. I wasn't late for my appointment and I fact I was early, and two patients that came after me had gotten seated before me. They seated me 25 minutes after my appointment time. And once I was seated and they helped me take x-rays I had to wait again for another 10 minutes. I don't think I'll be coming back here and I've been coming here for years. HE SAVED MY TOOTH!!!! :) Soooo thankful a friend told me about Dr. Chao. I was told by another dentist that one of my two cavities is so near to the nerve of the tooth that it would most likely turn into a root canal. He is just like reviews said, METICULOUS, LIGHT-HANDED, VERY SKILLED, KNOWLEDGABLE, INFORMATIVE, VERY RESPECTFUL and FRIENDLY. Dr. Chao is NOT at all condescending. He patiently answered my questions and was yielding to my preferences. He even respected my request to use an alternative disinfecting method on my tooth I had researched, lending to my peace of mind. He took an Xray after drilling out a very difficult to reach cavity to make sure he got everything before filling it. His office staff and dental assistant Miu were all so friendly and respectful. It was one of the best dentist visits I've ever had. No pain whatsoever!!! I truly believe I would have lost this tooth if I had gone to the wrong dentist. Stay away at all costs! They say you will see Dr. Chao but end up seeing inexperienced, no good "dentists". They not only gave my husband a cap he didnt need, but at the end charged us 1,000. After I asked to get mailed the bill with the insurance information, I was told no. I had to pay upfront, mind you they did not inform us of this before the procedure. The sidewalk dentist also shaved my tooth down, for what, I dont know. And he put on a filling on the surface of my tooth incorrectly! I had to research another dentist to fix it, thank goodness. I found this gold nugget by chance. As a person with an extensive dental history, I can truly say this is one of the best dental offices I have ever visited. The work is good, if not great. The dentist (periodontitis, orthodontists, endodontists included) are friendly, professional and thorough. The office seems to be equipped with the some of the latest technology.
