Located in the old walled city of Grasse it's a short distance from the parfumeries that tourists both French and international love to visit. It's best to park at one of the three nearby parking lots and walk through the windy narrow streets to this restaurant tucked away in the former store rooms of a building. There are the amazing arched brick and stone ceilings and there is a nice cover patio in front perfect for relaxing and enjoy the Cote d'Azur weather. It's the kind of place Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware go to get inspiration. Very Provinciale. Specializing in cuisine traditionalle there is a nice selection of a la carte starters, mains and desserts as well as two 3 course prix fixe menu for 36 and 26 euro both with many choice for each course. The portions are larger than at most restaurants in France. There are equal selections with seafood and meat and even vegetarian main dishes, not always something easy to find in France. The starter were huge with my salad being loaded with lardons as well a cured duck and the warm goat cheese salad the French spouse was just the way it should be she said and since she grew up in Grasse I'll take her word for it. The mains were equally good with a lamb confit cooked en papillote in filo dough wrapping, served with potatoes gratin and a celery root and parsnip root mash. The French Spouse had a more regional dish which is a seafood stuffed with fish in a tomato broth, it was served with rice and the parnip and celery root mash. The dessert were huge and tasty. One was chocolate mousse cake with a base of Genoise layer with super light but still rich and chocolatey cake with more creme on top and served with a cup of warm chocolate sauce to pour over it. The French Spouse's lemon crepe was full of tangy lemon curd and served with a shot of kir. The place is filled with locals wanting an upscale but comfortable meal. There is a lunch time prix fixe for 13 euro. The dinner menu ranges from 6 to 20 euros per plate and has to the two prix fixe.

I have come to Mougins for the past 10 years... frequented numerous restaurants in the surrounding towns, including Cannes. It is located in the small village of Mouans Sartoux, easy parking, on a small street. But lively place after 8 pm with friendly locals and a few tourists dining. Staff all speak good English... young and friendly! We came along about 1945, with no reservation on a Wednesday night, just 2, got a nice table in small street. Would however suggest reserving.... Excellent fresh bread... 4 choices of Rose, 19 to 36 euro bottle.... the Brillo was 19, local, excellent value! We started with Baked goat cheese in oven, came with warm fresh toast, fig compote... we shared this! It was plenty! We then opted for the 3 course meal at 34 Euro each.... Starter: one had 6 fabulous escargots, and I had a warm duck salad, with 3 kinds of duck, including a fois gras main :One has Entrecôte steak, which was an 8-10 oz filet mignon really, accompanied with choices of potatoes ...and large dish of bernaise sauce....I had duck breast w honey reduction and porcini mushrooms, accompanied w fresh green beans w pesto.... excellent! Dessert: one had a warm fudge cake, like a lava cake back home.... and I had the cafe gormond, a local request usually not on menus... you get 4 to 5 small portions of variety of desserts, and cafe! This dessert offering again is usually not publicized.... so just ask! Best dessert value in France! Have never been disappointed! Awesome meal! Friendly staff! Great Value! Note... see pictures... and the only reason I did not give 5 stars is because they only had outdoor seating.... at this time of year... and humidity can be high June-August here.... so nice to have that option... it was not so humid that particular night... so dining outside was ok ! Bon Appetite from Mougins!

Hell, they could serve dog food with maggots on top and I'd still give it 3 stars just for that view. But, what makes this place so incredibly special, is that the food is just as impressive as the location. To start, I had a shellfish bolognese that was simply out of this world. Far superior to any I have had elsewhere, from New York to Rome. And I didn't even miss the meat. My wife had a Caprese salad made with goat cheese that was so fresh is was like you had never had a Caprese before in your life. The only other I can think of that was as good was at Jean Georges in NYC. For entrees, I had the Turbot which was crazy pricey, but also crazy good. Cooked to perfection and presented in a way I had never seen before. And speaking of impressive presentations, my wife's lobster was served over a bed of turquoise salt that looked so striking against the bright red shell of the lobster tail. It was also quite good. But the finale was not to be outdone. Something called Chocolate extreme- in crude translation, that was so damn good I wanted to jump off the cliff into the water and just go out on top. This was absolute heaven. In fact, the only thing that could've made it any better for me would have been to drive off in one of the 5 Ferrari's parked in the parking lot. Maybe next time ;)

As there was a group of us, I won't go into all the food details but I ordered from the 34 euro set meal. I started with rabbit terrine, followed by sorbet to clean the tongue, and then had veal. it was absolutely tasty and delicious! I went to fill up the wine glass of the friend across from me and the waiter was there, took the bottle out of my hand and did the honours, in a nice gentel way of course. Take time to walk around the village as well. It's really lovely and the views (as it's a very high point in the Cote d'azur) are fantastic. ready to go back!!!
