The pricing model is a bit odd at first, but it works really well as you only get the parts of your house cleaned that you want. When they come and do the quote they charge you per room - $X per bedrom, $X for the kitchen, $X for dusting etc etc. So we didn't get any bedrooms or dusting as the house is relatively new which keeps the costs down. Fantastic idea. They use all their own products, and the cleaners are excellent. Good attention to detail, consistent cleaning and happy to be flexible and do extra cleaning if requested or to swap cleaning one thing for the other (without a price change). Really reliable, cost effective, professional and an excellent cleaning service (of course). Highly recommend!

According to them it usually takes one day for the funds to appear in their account, so let's say nine days before clean. There was no further communication from Hire a Maid so I naturally assumed that the cleaning slot was confirmed. However, no one turned up on the day. I rang, I emailed. No response (it was a Sunday). On Monday following I received an email saying that the cleaners had not been booked in as they had not received a screenshot of the payment. What the heck? They had received the payment! So clearly the payment sat in their account for about nine days but that was not sufficient to confirm the job, nor did they think to ring or email me to confirm it. I have since received a full refund but sadly, no apology. Will not make this mistake again.

Then most unprofessional, unkind property manager I have ever come across. They will insist on coming to the property and invade your privacy with little to no reasoning and treat you like problematic tenants when you ask them to repair the issues within the home. We have endured accusations and borderline abusive language all because they would not maintain the rental property.

I asked about prices and the staff member at HID gave me a brochure which didn't have prices in it but there was a website address so I went home and emailed my quest for further info. Within an hour the prices were on my screen so no complaints there. Home Ideas Centre is not what it used to be. Sure it still has a range of products you can touch and measure and feel but there are lots of big gaps in the displays. Nice that's the centre's open at the weekend though. Good on you.

The Home Ideas Centre is a like a strange vision of the future, where some sort of terrible…read moredisaster has forced people to live in giant windowless warehouses, but the high level of prosperity has meant these warehouses are appointed with luxury fittings such as restaurant grade extractor fans and artisan skirting boards. It's really very strange here: it's a big warehouse, where people who make various home related items hire a space and then install a display. That's all fairly straightforward, but the strange part is that there's no people: if you want to know about an item you have to take a flyer, or register for more information, or go online; there's no one to talk to. Furthermore, because of the way the place is laid out, you very rarely see any other customers so it's quite eerie. I get that it's a useful place if you are doing a big home reno, but the whole place is unsettling so I just wanted to leave when I went there.

They do it while you wait and it costs buggar all for a key in the colour of your choice. I know there are places all over the show now that do this sort of thing but these guys are The Pros. You can tell by the enormous shop that has everything from key chains to massive safes, and you can tell by the fact that they have several branches of the business including what I like to call the "oh shit I locked myself out" service. They do the whole lot - cars, keyless entry, padlocks, home automation systems, you name it. I really can't imagine why you'd go anywhere else for your security requirements. They're also nice blokes who (in my experience) don't act like sleazy tradies. It's sad but true that a lot of the traditionally "male" industries are still badly behaved but not so here.
