There is a patio space and more room towards the side of the restaurant. The decor is interesting with ladles hanging on the wall between bricks and the 'chairs' basically are wooden log stumps. We did notice the place was very warm - not sure if it was because their AC was not working. Anyways, we ordered 3 different soups - vietnamienne, thailandaise, and provencale. Vietnamienne - this one was pretty disappointing. I felt it was just some canned beef broth. 6 pieces of thinly sliced lean beef and rice noodles. Bean sprouts and basil on the side. For a place that boasts its soups, this broth wasn't very flavorful and the beef was kind of tough despite it being thinly sliced. Also the broth wasn't particularly hot when it came to our table. 2/5 - don't get this is you have had legit pho, you'll just be sad. Thailandaise - this one was okay, had a hint of coconut, slight amount of spiciness and a little bit of lemongrass and ginger. If you're looking for that exciting bold Tom yum, this is more of a muted version in terms of flavors. Comes with rice noodles and some small shrimp - maybe 6 pieces. 3/5 - it's okay, higher if you prefer your Tom yum soup more subtle. Provencale - we got a large for this one, it really is a lot bigger, almost double the amount of broth probably. This was probably the best of the 3 - had tasty white fish, some mussels, potatoes and tomatoes in the broth. Flavorful but nothing that stands out that would make me want to come back. 3/5. Service is good - the young lady was pretty quick with taking our order, bringing us cutlery and requests for smaller bowls and checked in with our table appropriately. Price is pretty expensive given what you get. I'm pretty sure I could get more flavorful noodle soups at a cheaper price. Okay place to try but not something I'd go out of my way for.

I ordered the breakfast of eggs, sausage, toast and hashbrowns with a side yogurt. The breakfasts are HUGE so you can easily share with someone else if you're not in the mood to eat a full one yourself. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the toast buttered and fluffy, the hashbrowns were cooked well and seasoned well which is such a bonus as I find sometimes hashbrowns are lacking a lot. The side yogurt was surprisingly the highlight for me! It came with maple syrup, fruit and granola. I absolutely devoured it! The service was great here too, and they came by with drip coffee top up! While it's true that I know what to expect when ordering Vietnamese fare in San Francisco I learned…read morethat doing so in Quebec City's Saint-Sauveur neighborhood is a whole different ballgame. Restaurant Jardin du Vietnam is an all-inclusive experience. Every meal here is a multi-course affair that moves from soup to appetizer plate to entree and dessert. Alcohol isn't offered but guests are welcome to BYOB and there's no corkage or other associated fees. It's fair to say that you'll leave Restaurant Jardin du Vietnam very full for a reasonable price even if what you've consumed looks nothing like your typical order from a Vietnamese restaurant in San Francisco. The only decisions to be made here pertain to your choice of entree and dessert. At my table our entree orders included Poulet (chicken) Curry ($25.95CAN, and a bit one-note) and a Shrimp/Scallop dish ($32.95CAN, pristine but bland in flavor). The latter was chosen because it featured vermicelli (aka rice noodles) which are often featured in favorite Vietnamese dishes back home. But there's a silver lining here; the entire experience of the place is interesting and sort of fun and though the food wasn't my favorite version of Vietnamese fare I liked, overall, what was on offer. Several tables were filled with parties of 4, early and known to the restauranteurs, and covered with wine bottles, evidence that Restaurant Jardin has a local fan base. The restaurant itself is authentically ornate and unique to the area. And the multi-course experience is leisurely and enjoyable. Accompanied with such reasonable prices (1CAN$ = .75 US) it was easy to imagine how Restaurant Jardin could become a favorite amongst locals seeking something a bit different. It might not have been my favorite version of Vietnamese fare but I enjoyed the overall experience.

We cannot complain about that. Our server was friendly and very charming. The meal was beautifully paced. The restaurant itself is very noisy. The food itself was disappointing. On the recommendation of our server we started with the carrot doughnut. The doughnut itself was lost under a mountain of ricotta. I would not have known that it was carrot, except that she had told us. We ordered two other starters : I ordered the foie gras pate and my boyfriend ordered the fried oysters. The pate was served on a small layer of sunflower butter, which was unnecessary. The pate itself was surprisingly flavorless. Homemade bread and blueberry jam served alongside was quite good. The fried oysters were completely drowned in buffalo sauce, another green sauce and "blue cheese foam". I would not have even known they were oysters. They were served underneath some cucumbers and peppers and lettuce. For our main course, we shared the blood pudding, which, despite the crazy number of ingredients actually was delicious. It was the best thing we ate. It was served with homemade bacon, a roasted artichoke heart, and some mussels croquettes. Seriously a lot going on. For dessert we ordered the spiced orchard dacquoise. Another complex, and I thought overly complicated dish, that my boyfriend felt worked well. It was presented nicely, and I remembered to get a picture of it. All in all, it seemed like there's just way too much going on in each dish and no particular flavor stands out. Two of the dishes, the fried oysters and the carrot doughnut were just sloppy and smothered. The boudin and the dessert were both beautifully plated, and the flavors worked better as well. The foie gras appetizer was unfortunately bland, and the main ingredient did not shine. Maybe it was an off night? Maybe we didn't order the best things? Evidently, they're doing something right because they've been going for 50 years, but we just didn't see that.

They really know how to celebrate food and have put great thought into their food combinations, elevating good quality ingredients into a fine dining experience. Le Hobbit is a cozy spot with a corner view of the city's dining/shopping street with great 2 seater tables to enjoy the private ambiance as well as some longer tables for groups of 4, 6, 8 to gather. Reservations is highly recommended/required. The atmosphere is very cozy with wood themes and very private. We had: - house lemonade - the foie gras seed butter and blueberry jam app; this is served on a broiche with a large amount of foie gras and homemade roasted sunflower seed butter; this was a very flavorful and filling starter for two - Poulet de Cornouailles - cornish roasted hen (the whole bird, small); was very delicate, served on mashed turnips, topped with an artistic grilled turnip and other veggies to cover the protein, it was a great experience to taste each component of the dish and have it come together well - veal flank steak with sauce on carrot puree and bitter vegetables - dessert (which changes frequently) was an artistic experience, a spiced cake with sauce, a uniquely (not my favorite) ice cream with candied bitter citrus peel served on top of toasted granola/sweetened biscuits The serving staff was super knowledgeable and presented each course and dish when served with further explanations on the ingredients, process, as well as how to best experience the dish. Most of the staff are also LOTR fans, so there is a nice opportunity to geek out together and see the inspiration for some of the dishes. Very much recommended for a nice evening out in Quebec City.

However being from Vancouver where ramen is plentiful and so damn good, this left us feeling pretty underwhelmed. We waited about 40 minutes to get a table - I guess we went on a really busy evening (which oddly enough was a Sunday) and people ahead of us said "it's worth the wait". Unfortunately for us it wasn't. So where did it go wrong for us you ask? While the staff was really kind, it was a bit slow going - I had to ask for my drink order twice for my sister and I. It finally came with my soup. We had a salad to start called the Wafu salad - a Japanese chefs salad with Wafu dressing. While the dressing was the best part, there wasn't much on the deconstructed salad of corn, bell peppers, crunchy noodle, daikon, and lettuce, the salad was also served on a really awkward dish where the contents falls off the edges as you try to grab a bit of everything. Up next were the ramens - I got the Miso - Shallot, bean sprouts, nori, naruto, pork chashu and 1/2 egg and corn - I also got a 1/2 egg added for $1.50. If you're going to serve ramen for nearly $20 - you need to supply a full egg, that's just silly to only give a halfer. The first thing I noticed about the ramen was it was lacking broth - by the time I started getting into it, the noodles had soaked up a lot of it and I was left with mostly noodles - not great. The broth itself was flavourful so if it just had more of it, it'd be a better ramen. The corn was also odd for me and I didn't love that addition. My sister and moms was worse - my sis got the Vegetarian and my mom got the Yasai Miso. The vegetarian had so much stuff on top that again it takes away from the broth (which was also non-existent). My mothers was the same - the vegetables were just a bunch of cabbage lobbed ontop. Unfortunately I can't recommend this spot for ramen - the mediocre food is not worth it or the lineup to get it. The restaurant also looks much cuter in photos online than it was in-person - it lacks character in the decor.

We basically both the miso and the shoyu ramen, and they were both good. They were a good size, and reasonably priced. Service was friendly and helpful. Why am I giving 3 out of 5 stars? It was a good meal, but nothing memorable about it. It's very similar to other ramen places I've been to, so in a few weeks, I might not remember much about my visit other than it filled me up, and there's nothing wrong with that. It would be dependable place to get a meal.
