History on Auburn Ave in Atlanta... This has been on my bucket list for a while, the Madam CJ Walker Museum. More like a step back in time. Very rich history about the development of Black Hair products, and the wealthy empire that Madam CJ Walker developed. The Madam CJ Walker/WERD Radio Museum in Atlanta which is 1 block west of the MLK Center. Don't miss this opportunity to enjoy some old school music that Ricci plays on speaker as you walk by. #FirstBlkRadioStation owned and operated by AAM, established Oct 3, 1949. The store has a few items that the previous owner left explaining the history of haircare, not alot. There are nostalgic flat irons and tools of the trade. He also covers the early history of WERD Radio Station which used to be upstairs above the beauty salon. You will also see some vintage stereo equipment. I spent approx. 30min, taking pics and asking questions. While I was there the owner was actually doing hair at the time. He was very helpful, and gave me the history as I walked around. Upstairs a lady does natural hair during the week. He has artist hrs so, hopefully you can catch him in the store front. This really was a special stop. Tip: park on side of street, not in empty parking lot across the st, the owners will make you move. $5.00 entry fee

Madam C.J. WALKER's last beauty shop how iconic an amazing is that? It felt like I ripped a page out of history and inserted myself. You could smell the hot comb still, I love that we stumbled upon it and it wasn't something planned, when you come in they make you take a quiz you know and I'm not gonna tell you the quiz it's a pop quiz LOL but if you do get it then you get a free vinyl record which is amazing. If not you had a lot of fun, and I really like that you can actually touch things and really be a part of history. FREE ENTRY BTW

This is a must see when you are Atlanta. So much history here. In addition to this being Madam CJ Walker's hair salon it's is also the location of the first black owned and operated radio station, WERD. The owner has over 14000 vinyl records as well as the original hot combs, hair dryers and flat irons that were used when it was a Madam CJ Walker salon. There is so much history in this little building, it's amazing

This was one of the highlights of my visit to Atlanta. Ricci was great, sharing the knowledge he has I ended up learning more than expected about the area.

So, I had the privilege to experience Live Jazz at the High Museum and had A TIME! Given the amazing talent of the band that was outdoors and the ambiance that this band generated, most of my time for the event was spent with them. The outdoor band deeply engaged the crowd prompting consistent unified singing and line dancing. Every direction I turned in this area portrayed big smiles and enjoyable movements, relaying great memories were being formed. Although the majority of my time was spent with this band, I did take the time to walk around indoors and witnessed the other band, which elicited a casual, poised ambiance. There was also an opportunity to view the art at the High Museum. Overall, I had a grand time! I would definitely make time to visit Live Jazz at the High, if I am in the area at that time again. I would recommend those in the area at that time to check it out as well.

There's an abundance of history here, from an intimate exhibit on Martin Luther King Jr. to powerful videos of his speeches, and exhibits that highlight the history of 16th Street Baptist Church that really drum up your emotions. I appreciated the film about the Freedom Riders, activists who rode buses through the South to challenge transportation segregation laws. This museum dues an excellent job of honoring history while bringing exhibits to life and being engaging. I've visited the Center for Civil and Human Rights several times, but for the first time I experienced the interactive lunch counter exhibit. You hear people shouting racist slurs, threatening you, and telling you to leave, along with police sirens and guard dogs barking. The seats even vibrate for an immersive experience. It felt very real. It was intensely emotional and a bit overwhelming, however I am glad that I got to experience it. Overall, I truly enjoyed my visit. The content is powerful and challenging, but everyone should experience it, especially given todays social and political climate.

This galleries and the information are incredibly well presented and engaging. There are heart-breaking stories, unimaginable images, and video recordings that are just bewildering to listen to. The Lunch Counter experience is incredibly sobering. Despite all the difficult things to read, to see and to listen to, I came out thinking about how life have changed for the better, and yet there is so much more to do. I can understand why this place is so well regarded. It's worth a visit.

I love that it's located right in the city, yet you feel so far away. I also really appreciate the membership options they offer. I typically get the single membership, which is well worth it when you consider how many times you can visit and the member-only events they host. This time around, though, I decided to rejoin with an upgrade to the Family Membership ($135 for the year, which covers two adults and children). It comes with four free guest passes, discounts at the gift shop, and options for parking garage passes. They also host member only events, and for the month of September, members get a discount at the garden cafe and restaurant. In addition to seeing all the gorgeous flowers and trees, there is always something going on throughout the year. They host events featuring work by various artists and sculptors throughout the garden, a scarecrow event in the fall, the holiday lights in the winter, and an orchid exhibit in the spring. Another great perk is that your membership gets you discounts at other botanical gardens across the United States. If you love nature and enjoy visiting gardens wherever you travel, I definitely recommend taking advantage of their membership!

With membership we never have to think about the cost and I am guessing that the two of us go enough that we savemoney withthe annual family membership. But there's a lagniappe that the Botanical garden doesn't even mention. Memberships at he Atlanta Botanical Gardens gives reciprocal membership in 350+ gardens around the US and Canada. But was I ever surprised to discover that it includes the Atlanta History Center. We were there Saturday and saved $29 each by belonging to the Atlanta Botanical Garden. I don't know about y'all, but I think that free is a very good price.

The tasting room had more than 25 flavors of Coca-Cola from around the world. While it was fun to try them all, this was also the most chaotic and busiest room in the museum. The floor was sticky with Coca-Cola that had been spilled at some point, although who knows when! The museum itself can get a little too busy. The gift shop is nice, with plenty of Coca-Cola-themed merchandise, including cutlery, dishes, plush toys, and more. I picked up a couple of magnets.
