I'm not sure I would recommend eating here, because when I went, it still smelled of beer. Why -1? Because there isn't much of a dance floor. So I guess it's more of a huge lounge. The Botanist was an excellent find when we stayed the night in downtown Newcastle. Located on Monument Mall, you have to up three flights of stairs or take the lift (elevator) to reach the main bar and lounge that has a strong botanical garden theme that is quite beautiful, especially with the location being under a dome. The dome is gorgeous and really enhances the botanical garden and atrium effect. The cocktails are very good as well. I ordered a buttered coconut old fashioned that was quite rich and creamy, but very satisfying with the toasted coconut and butter-washed Makers Mark bourbon with homemade salted honey syrup. My wife enjoyed her Botanist Ultimate Gin & Tonic as we took a table with these plushy lounge chairs. The bartender was fantastic and friendly in making us the cocktails. Really nice guy who made us feel at home. Additionally, they have a rooftop balcony to enjoy the drinks; however, on this evening, it was windy and cold (at least for us Floridians) to where we decided to stay warmer inside. But we would return in a heartbeat.

Live music, a good selection of keg and bottled beers and a fantastic vibe. Exactly what you need to get your weekend off to a bang. I love the old shipping container that takes up one side of the bar to lower the ceiling over the sofas, a really good touch and very much in keeping with the style, as is the chain link fencing that covers the semi open front/veranda (which has sadly ceased to be the smoking area which is now the tables on the street). Expect to see people from all walks of life, dressed in jeans or up to the nines. And only here for a good time. Happy times, glad to recommend.

When I came for the first time, I was loving it, but my second visit last week left me a bit disappointed. Yeah it's a brilliant club - I fell in love with it then they played the theme tune to Fresh Prince of Bell Air. ahh .... Saying that, they played 'football's coming home' at least 4 times throughout the night - I couldn't help but count. It got a bit annoying. They had brilliant drinks offers though, I got 4 shots and a vodka + mixer for £6, so I was pleased (and tipsy). The club itself was a bit messy and the floor was sticky, but it's a nightclub afterall. The men were particularly sleazy - I was invited back to numerous house parties, but that's not the clubs fault. I would definitely come back here, I loved my first night and was maybe too sober for the second night, but the best things come in three's, right?
