All the food is brought over from Italy, and as you would imagine, at least two isles are devoted to pasta. Pasta with names like farfallini, pappardelli, rigatone, as well as your standard penne and spaghetti's. One brand of pasta that took my attention was Dreamfields, which is a low carb pasta. That means that all those poor people who are doing the low-GI thing (like myself), can at least have the same meals. So as well as a good Italian wine selection, and plenty of pastries, there is a large delicatessen here. I usually go to pick up artichoke hearts, and stuffed tomatoes and peppers, but the other day I had one of their toasted panini's. It was stuffed with parma ham, mozzarella cheese, peppers and chillis. It was the most mouthwatering thing I have eaten in a long time.

The locals seem to flock to this place pretty frequently. The owners new customers by name (always a great sign), and there was a line when we got there (which moved quickly). Plenty of pastas, paninis, antipastas, and more. We placed a massive order for 5 people and sat outside. Everything was delivered quickly and we ate while reaching our forks over each other's plates to make sure everything was tried, and nothing was missed. I didn't spend too much time looking, but there is a little shop as well which offers different sauces, pastas, etc. for purchase. They all look delicious, and great for a gift basket.

The produce here is fantastic and you can tell there's been so much love and attention put into every single product. The chicken liver pate is really nice here and full of flavour and I would also highly recommend purchasing on of their quiches to take home and have with some nice salad. They've just opened a small cafe on the side that compliments the deli and serves a great selection of sandwiches and (my favourite) pork pies. An appetising array of breads and pastries, but other stock limited at present - a tiny smattering of meat and fish (kippers, smoked salmon, pork joints and fry-up components!), dried goods (skewed towards Italian items), cheeses, organic juice etc. Some delicious looking chilled ready-meals (£5 each but probably worth it). Some items were priced well outside my comfort zone, as is the way with these establishments, but there were enough sensibly priced treats to make it accessible. We bought a delicious ciabatta this time. It looks a bit bare so far, but the friendly owner told us they will be opening the coffee shop later this week, and that they have plans to extend the range of meats and to expand into fruit and veg. Earlsfield has been on the up for a few years now, but is still sorely lacking a greengrocers and butchers, so that was very pleasing news. So upon entering the store, I was immediately expecting the classic 'deli snobbery' experience. You know when you go to an authentic Deli where the staff give you the cold stare if you take too lon to order or don't know exactly what you want. I asked for a selection of meats, and seriously thought this would be the point where they'd start snapping, but nope, again the lovely lady offered a range of sample slices for me to try! Woohoo! The Lime Tree is set in very small premises, there are only around 4 tables, and all the deli stock is packed into shelves along the wall. I spied lots of yummy looking jams and preserves, as well as a range of crackers filled with herbs like thyme, sage and cracked black pepper. The front of the shop is a cheese counter and a place to pick up coffees and paninis. The owners are definitely on to a winner here- Thames Ditton does not have a deli, so this is most welcome. I just wish that they had bigger premises to play with - when these babies get bigger they are going to need more floor space!

P.J Dales is well known for being a licenced game dealer, and specialises in game sausages, and rare breed beef. If your tastes veer towards white meat, the chickens (French, free range) are mouthwateringly good. They are used in the cafes up the road for chicken dishes and sandwiches. There is also a good range of a label called Home Farm (also homemade), which is a line of Jams, jellies, mustard's, marinades and pickles. If you come here for your meat, I would suggest during the week is best - on a Saturday early morning there is a queue which can occasionally stretch around the block, especially around Christmas time where they are busy shifting hundreds and hundreds of free range turkeys.
