Lucky for me, I was able to snag a parking spot right in front of the shop. I do know that this parking lot can get pretty packed, especially on the weekends. We were asked to bring a baby book and I loved all the options here from local authors/ artists! I picked up the " Aloha Friday Keiki Club". But there were so many other cute titles that I think would be a great addition to a keiki's reading collection. I also picked up a teething ring in the shape of a monstera leaf. I'm truly obsessed with all the island themed baby things here! They do have greeting cards but I didn't see any baby shower specific ones but there were a few cute birthday cards. If you're in the market for a baby or keiki gift- this is the perfect spot to find what you need.

We got there before the doors opened on the second day of the fair so we got first dibs at all the amazingly creative crafts, miniature themed Christmas trees, chutneys, hand-crafted jewelry, Christmas ornaments perfect for mainland holiday giving, Santa gnomes, handmade soaps, gorgeous holiday night lights, and so many other items too many to name. At the very end you get the privilege of getting a bowl of the best Portuguese Bean Soup you've ever eaten!! There are ceramics, glass, paper goods, home and holiday decor, jewelry, quilts, bags and totes, wooden furniture, plants, prune mui, jams, jellies, plate lunches, etc., great for gifts for family and friends or something special for yourself. The line starts forming about 1 p.m. for the 3 p.m. opening on Thursday afternoon. You can always make friends with the ladies in line, even reconnect with high school classmates or friends you haven't seen in decades! The hosts of this craft fair are wonderful, provide cold water to customers waiting in line, umbrellas if it starts raining, and shoe service, taking your shoes to the back of the house so you can shop the huge tent in back, filled with more crafts galore! No fair taking better slippers or shoes than you came with! Ha! Ha! You can pay with cash, check or VISA or Mastercard credit cards! I've painted pieces over the years, and still regularly use them. This is a reliable establishment to make something nice for yourself or a loved one. It'd be better if they took online reservations through a third party. Few people would be comfortable giving their card details over the phone to a stranger. It's common sense not to. The talent and aloha of these two icon oozes out when you go and visit their shop on Kapahulu Avenue. I was first introduced to feather lei making when I used to dance hula for Na Lei Hulu I Ka Weiku. When my kumu (dance teacher) asked us to make a lei hulu (feather lei) for a dance performance, I was super dissapointed because I knew it was going to be a LOT of work. But WOW - that was perhaps one of the best things that I have ever done in my history of dancing hula. Since my first feather lei making experience, I have visited Aunty Paulette & Aunty Mary Lou almost every time I go back home to Honolulu. I always learn something new, and both are always willing to share their no'eau (knowledge) with me. I just wish one day I could have a small percentage of their talents. They are not only knowledgeable on making lei hulu, but they know a LOT about Hawaiian history, the protocol for Hawaiian culture, and people who have influenced the development of the Hawaiian culture. The store is a nice and cozy little store. The store offers very reasonable and very unique feathers to make leis. Feathers from the goose, to the rooster, to the peacock, to peasant, etc are all in the store ready for your selection. Prices are very reasonable, and Aunty is always willing to give you a quick tip or hint if you ask. There are several ready-made lei hulu for sale in a display case - made by the aunties and their haumana (students). My favorite thing in the store is the royalty cape made purely of yellow and red feathers. It's one of Aunty Mary Lou's most famous masterpieces!
