We are visiting the Black Hills in our motorhome and had originally reserved a car through a large…read morenational car rental agency. Long story, but were told that we had no car. When we got to our campground, Steel Wheel, we saw a Jeep with a "Rent Me" sign on it and the little portable office for Mad Peak Rentals. So off I went to inquire about the Jeep. Turns out that renting it was going to be cheaper than going through the other agency and we didn't have to drive 45 minutes to get it -- we simply walked down from our campsite and picked it up! We had a blast driving it up and down the roads! The other thing we wanted to do was ride the Mickelson Trail, a nationally known bike trail. Well, we thought we'd be camped right next to it but it turned out that we were several miles from it and riding to the trailhead would have been dangerous. So once again the folks at Mad Peak came to our rescue and offered to shuttle us to the trailhead and pick us up when we were done. These folks go the extra mile, both literally and figuratively, and can't be beat. They truly made our visit to the Black Hills one to remember.

An Amazing First Horseback Riding Experience! We came all…read morethe way from California and had never ridden horses before, so we honestly didn't know what to expect. We were a party of six, and from start to finish, we had an awesome time! Andy was a fantastic tour guide--friendly, knowledgeable, patient, and made everyone feel comfortable, especially those of us who were riding for the very first time. The horses were absolutely beautiful, and the scenery and landscape were incredible. Everything was so peaceful and relaxing. One of the highlights was getting to see deer running around in the beautiful surroundings. It was truly an experience we'll never forget. Don't let the short distance fool you, that incline is a beast... at least it was for me! The…read moreuphill really worked the muscles after the falls trails "warm up" - the walk back to the Savoy trailhead was a great way to cool down. Located across the street from the lodge, watch for the sign... trailhead doesn't have a parking area- park in 1 of the lots across the street, or at Savoy trailhead, if you want to add a mile ea way of easy walking on a sunny, paved trail. The view from the top is lovely but, for me, this one was all about the climb & the sendory fulfillment the trail brought with it. The scent of pine, the warm air with a slight breeze & plenty of shade to protect you from direct sunlight. It wasn't heavily populated. There are ample rest areas and signs to warn you what you're in for. I've only included pictures from the 76 Trail. Ss mentioned, it's next to the falls trails as well (See Savoy Trailhead & Roughlock Falls) - if knocking of the 76 Trail, I suggest a trek to 1 set of falls pre and the other post - these trails are located to the left of the restaurant and behind the lodge, over the foot bridge. Each is in the -mile range.

There is a large parking lot with toilets, plenty of seating areas and picnic tables to enjoy. Note: it is a well-used trail, despite notations of low use on trail info sites.
