We were going to do the siding on our own as well, but decided that if we were going to hire out any part of the project, the siding was the one to do. We spent weeks reading through manuals from James Hardie, so when we decided to hire out the job, we knew exactly what to expect. Johnson County did a great job on selling us on their "quality product and application" but fell short on literally every other part of the job. Coming in at $33,000 they were the most expensive quote that we received for the job, but we felt confident that it would be worth the price. We hired them in early 2023 to do our siding, and after hitting some delays on our end, they completed the job in September 2023. We did everything in our power to communicate with them how things were progressing and when we would be ready for the siding install. During this 6 month gap between hiring them and job completion, they changed project managers 3 times and never communicated this to us. Install day arrived and the final project manager (Nicholas) assigned to the job had never even laid eyes on the project. This should have been a straightforward job for an "experienced" company like JOCO siding. This was not the case. We had issues with the install from day one. Nicholas was only present on site at the beginning of each day. He didnt actually manage the project. There was absolutely no effort made to assess the quality of work being done. The team was ill equipped and had to borrow staples, nails, and our nail gun for different parts of the project. As soon as the vapor barrier and trim was applied the flaws were evident. We had to hunt down Justin (owner) through Nicholas and tell him to cease work on the job until he would come out and look at the quality of work. When Justin and Nicholas arrived on site, we had to fight with them for them to see the mistakes the team had made. Trim had been applied without being shimmed level, vapor barrier had not been taped down around windows before trim was installed, flashing was not correctly applied, large gaps (1/2"+) were left that the team had filled with caulking, and flashing was missing in crucial spots on top of trim. Nicholas proceeded to tell us what we were pointing out to them was "bullsh*t" and we offered to show them another house that had recently gotten Hardie siding that did not have any of these issues. Justin had the team take down all of the trim and reapply it. This only fixed about 80% of the problem. The team installed siding planks that were either cracked, broken or had large gouges in them. Justin and Nicholas came out for the final walkthrough once the job was completed. Most of the issues with the planks we didnt notice until after the walkthrough, but some of the smaller mistakes we did notice we let slide. Justin told us that after all of the incidents with our house, the entire team had to be sent to be retrained...but did not offer to make right on the shoddy work they did for us. After winter passed, we noticed even more flaws in the siding. Corners have broken off of planks, planks that were cracked horizontally during install were filled with color matched caulk, poorly applied trim caulk was now peeling away from the house and multiple places on planks are scraped down through the paint. We have been trying to contact Johnson County since May of 2024 to get our siding repaired. Most emails and all phone calls go unanswered. The ones they do respond to are met with empty promises of "the team will be notified" and "we'll let you know when we can get you on the books". Johnson County uses a third party answering service so it is IMPOSSIBLE to actually get a hold of anyone in the offices. They promise a good warranty which is completely useless because you cannot actually get them to come make repairs to the siding. The only positive in this is the guys that did the gutters did a good job and were quick to fix a small issue we had.

We chose them because 2 of our neighbors used them for siding with excellent results. Both houses look great. JCWSs' online reviews are good, their BBB file is excellent, I couldn't find any lawsuits through on the public record's website for Joco, and they offered a five-year workmanship warranty. Bill's pricing was also competitive. Our house is about 2000 square feet and we paid around $2k.They required no money upfront and payment in full when the project was completed. Bill's team did an excellent job and the installed system looks beautiful. They were reliable (e.g. showed up on time each day), were respectful of the property (e.g. no damage and cleaned up after themselves), and were always professional. Bill came by after the work was completed to inspect for quality and to collect payment. Bill and I found one tiny area that was missed due to the location being partially hidden, about 6 inches of the fascia. I didn't catch it until after the team had left the property. Bill's team was back out within just a few days to make sure the work was completed. It speaks volumes of a business owner that quickly resolves workmanship issues. I would definitely recommend Bill Christie to others and would hire JCSW again.

I did send them a video of the problem I was having with the door. On the day appointment, I did receive a call stating they were running behind but would be coming that day at a later time. I appreciated the constant communication on the day of the appointment. The owner, Mike, was the person who came out to my house. He was able to fix the issue on the first visit. He was friendly and explained what he was doing too. Definitely will be using them again in the future!

Beyond dissatisfied, Mike Kemp Rescue1 never had any sense of urgency and delayed as long as…read morepossible. He completed at most, half of the entire work. My duplex was heavily damaged from a tree during severe storm in July 2023. Ceiling collapsed in kitchen, lots of water damage and a big insurance claim. I met Mike from a personal friend/referral and Mike seemed very qualified with expertise to repair over $60,000 of storm damage to roof, structure and water damage. I met him at the property shortly after storm in July and paid deductible of 5k so he could start tree removal and mitigation. A few days later, insurance paid $48,000 for settlement and Mike strongly persuaded me to hand it all over to him/Rescue 1. Big big mistake. He hired my own electrician to re-attach torn off meters and other misc repairs to restore power once the trees were gone. Even though I had deposited the insurance money with Rescue1, he to this day never paid the electrician of $2300. Mike put fans in the damaged half of the property and disappeared to the Ozarks for a few weeks. I confronted him by showing a pic of the check for 48k, and he started screaming at me, using the F word, saying he had "million dollar deals going on" which made it clear he seemed complacent for collecting money but no urgency to move quickly to repair anything. Days turned into weeks, then months, and finally a new year. By Mid-September, Mike completed a lot of the demo and rebuilt of the damaged unit, along with "Some" of the roof. When he rebuilt the ceiling and interior of the damaged unit, he did not put insulation in the attic and cut many wires, making it hard to figure out what went where. He or the crew broke a granite countertop, which I had to eat $863. He completely stopped on the roof because, he said several times, he was concerned about the framing and wanted Farmers Insurance to pay about $20,000 more for framing correction. He did re-roof 1/3 of the duplex and left plastic over the other 2/3 of the property roof from September until I released him at the end of December. He did do other work outside of the insurance claim, so I give credit there. He replaced a bad bathroom floor on one side and gutted a leaking shower on the other side. He complained often about doing "so much more work" than what insurance covered. When the roof sat tarped from September forward, it leaked on the occupied side, and he went back a few times. Apparently, the fascia was bad, but that should have been addressed when the roof was covered to make sure it was water tight. The tenants freaked out several times because of water penetration, which never should have happened with correct fascia and tarping. I was very sick of waiting months and going into a new year, so I contacted another roofer to check out the roof and framing issue. Turns out it was not a big deal, and Home Depot lumber was used for reinforcement and moving forward. I hired the "new guy" and the house was done in 2 weeks! I had to use credit cards and spend thousands of dollars because Mike had all the money upfront. I released Mike and instructed him to provide invoices for all work done and to settle up financially, but he refused by not doing anything. Summary: Mike collected $53,000 upfront, did shoddy work omitting insulation over kitchen ceiling, cut wires, broke granite countertop, abandoned project mid- October after partial roofing, did not properly flash new roof, had to stop water penetration in occupied side because of fascia, did not pay electrician sub $2300, never had any sense of urgency to get job done, screamed using F word when confronted early on, never set any expectations or got much done, blamed insurance for a low payment but I verified Farmers DID NOT RECEIVE documents requested to support the 20k supplement, never invoiced and cannot account for how $53,000 has been utilized, I had to always text for status updates as he never communicated unless asked directly. I gave myself a present and fired him around January 1; the house was done in 2 weeks. I spent thousands of $$ because Mike had all the money. Attorney advised police report for fraud with Overland Park, done. Am also in touch with JOCO DA

I would never recommend this company to anyone as my experience with them has been horrible and now I cant even talk to anyone at the actual company.
