She also went out of her way to come over and interact with my pup while we waited for the vet asst. who was also friendly. I was less impressed with the cleanliness of the room that we were put in and the "bedside manner" of the vet. The first thing I noticed when I went to put my pup on the scale with the vet asst. was that it was not very clean. I sat down while waiting for the vet to enter the room, and observed that the entire floor was covered in various types of dog fur suggesting that the room had not been swept or cleaned in between patient visits before we were ushered in. Since my pup had only been with us for about 10 days prior to this visit, she was pretty scared of all the new people/sights/sound/smells so she was pretty sheepish during the entire visit. When Dr. Rizor did enter the room, there was very little interaction with me or my pup, don't remember there being any sort of introduction or anything like that, he just waited for the pup to be placed on the table, did a brief wellness exam and that was that. Over the years with past family dogs, I have visited many different vets in a few different states and each have always tried to interact with the dog on a more personable level before starting the exam so this visit was quite off putting to me. My concerns about the cleanliness along with the seemingly uninterested vet made me decide to look elsewhere for future vet needs.

Right after we got to the Vantage RV park where we were staying, my dog suffered a rectal prolapse (look it up because I really don't want to describe it here! Ack!). It was late on a Friday night so there were no vets open at the time. Being unfamiliar with the area, I searched for veterinarians the next morning and found Valley Veterinary Hospital in Ellensburg. They initially were booked up (it was a Saturday) but indicated they could do an after hours emergency appointment (which would've added $100-150 to our bill). They called me back within just a few minutes to say they had a cancelation and were able to get us in on a regular appointment. We got a little lost on the way there and missed our appointment time by about 15 minutes, but they were still able to see us. Although rectal prolapse is unusual, Dr. Rizor and his staff were able to fix it in the clinic, saving us potentially thousands of dollars on surgery. They were kind, professional, took very good care of my dog, and even stayed later than closing (without any additional charges) when my dog had a complication that required another procedure. Also, the cost was quite a bit lower than what we thought it might be, given all that they did. I would recommend Dr. Ben Rizor and his staff any day.

She had a bladder infection, so they told me to bring a urine sample. I had a devil of a time getting it, so they said they could take it from her bladder. The test results were no good because they had gone all the way through her bladder and into her bowel. Nothing else was done. She was almost 10 years old when I took her to my daughter's vet. Her heart was so enlarged that x-rays said it was cutting off her trachea and her esophagus. She could barely breathe. The vet referred us to Pullman. Long story short, a simple operation could have fixed her heart if we had caught it sooner. Meanwhile, her bladder was so infected that mats were floating in it. They gave her meds, which extended her life for about a year. She finally died of a kidney infection. All of this could have been prevented if anyone competent at that clinic had actually done anything besides shrugged their shoulders.

When they passed, Susan was so kind and thoughtful - sharing memories with me. When I brought home two new rescues - she was so excited for me - and excited to meet them. As my dog grows older and more fragile, she shows such compassion - making me so grateful to have her in our lives. She has always gone well above and beyond, making sure to send adorable pictures of 'my boys' when I travel, and update her notebook with details from each visit. When she needs to take some time off (very rare, and always with a lot of notice), she coordinates substitute pet minders as needed. Her experience working for a vet just adds to my comfort in leaving my pets in her care. When my pets need pills or special care, she works with me to make sure all is administered if I'm not available. I have recommended her to three different friends, and they each speak glowingly about her service. She will work with folks for regular visits, or for vacation care.
