My hometown paper, The Macomb Daily, is not concerned with keeping their customers happy. They just want to keep their customers. They have trapped me into their subscription service. The paper's customer service in regards to subscriptions is completely one way. Once you pay for a subscription, they expect it to continue forever. Despite efforts to cancel my subscription, both by contacting them twice by email and receiving an acknowledgement, and then by phone, they tried pressure tactics to force me to continue with their service. They want to know WHY you wish to leave, they offer discounts, they switch you to a different person in the subscription department, they place you on hold and make you listen to messages that continue to loop, always offering easy options to increase your subscription, but never any options to cancel. I called the subscription department yesterday and told them that I received notice of a pending charge against checking account, in spite of their promises to cancel my subscription. After getting the runaround as noted above, I was told that my subscription was canceled and there would be no further charges. Today, my account was charged for another monthly renewal. I will elevate my complaint to a government entity. For reference in situations like this, look to the Federal Trade Commission website and find the press release of October 28, 2021 entitled, "FTC to Ramp up Enforcement against Illegal Dark Patterns that Trick or Trap Consumers into Subscriptions". read more

None of us on my block are subscribers yet everyday at around 2:49 a.m. a car speeds down our block throwing papers indiscriminately out a car window. They land in the street, on the sidewalk, on the bottom part of the grass. Some homes have up to six papers laying there. Keep calling and they will not stop. Why are they doing this? This is a littering problem and a trip hazard. They do this year round including in the snow and then they get caught in the snow blowers! read more

I have asked them several times not to drop a paper on the ground near my mailbox and they just don't care. They just keep dropping it there week after week. I never asked for it and I never will. Be nice to the environment at least if you won't be nice to me and stop the waste. I told them I have a very bad back; it causes me a lot of pain to pick up their waste....they just don't give a damn about us! read more

This company is a joke I've called so many times for delivery which finally got straightened but now the billing part is ridiculous I agreed for a six month subscription contract they did not tell me I'm paying it all at once and then they raise it five dollars from what I initially agreed to And they say it's nonrefundable I took my information off the site so they can't charge me anymore after this subscription I've had the paper for more than 30 years and I will be canceling it once it's done I would suggest get things in writing because they never honor what they say read more

I have been a subscriber for over a decade or so just to support my local newspaper when print media is doing so poorly. I had renewed and pre-paid my subscription for 12 weeks in December, but only 1 month into my subscription they called me and told me I owed more money. I said I purchased a 12-week subscription pre-paid but they said because they sent me 2 special editions, this consumed my pre-paid subscription and added a new balance to my account. I asked what the special editions were and they couldn't even tell me. My guess is it was some related magazine or something, based upon what I could gather from what they were saying, that I would have just thrown away. This company simply modified my pre-paid subscription without any notification, and now expect more money from me. Trying to get anyone in their overseas support department to understand this "theft" of my money was impossible, and there is absolutely no way to speak with someone in the United States. Now they won't continue to deliver my paper for the balance of my subscription. I am done with this paper forever. read more

I have am having an issue with their delivery person I am elderly and disabled. I have asked that my paper be put on my porch. But every morning it's on at the end of my driveway and I have to struggle to get to it. Sometimes if it is on the sidewalk there a lady that walks her dog every morning who steals it. I have caught and asked why she's taking my paper. Her response is since it's on the sidewalk and it's public property she has the right to take it. I have called numerous times to complain and I have seen how the person delivers they fling it out their car window. They keep saying they will ask the driver to put it on the porch. My issue isn't with the content of the newspaper. My issues were relating to the non delivery of the newspaper. I called and complained, they stated on the automatic voice mail message, they were having delivery issues. Okay I understand with COVID19, things have been different. I just cancelled my subscription. I was billed full price a few days later, via my debit card. I called and asked for a partial credit. I spoke to different agents with foreign accents, who assured me I was due a credit. I had to wait a few weeks. Well it turns out that wasn't happening. There are no refunds on a prepaid subscription. So I am out the money. Save yourself the hassle, purchase the paper from your local gas station/retail store. read more

I like to read the news and the Macomb Daily is good but I don't like papers laying around or having to dispose of them and why not save a tree right? So I subscribed to the online or digital version. Well come to find out there were two accounts running simultaineously online and they were charging me $14 per month for each. So $28 per month just to read an ocassional article online! I thought paying for your internet usage through your provider was supposed to cover reading articles on the internet! The Macomb Daily should be making enough through advertising that they shouldn't be charging for online access. They don't have to print anything or pay anybody to do it when it's online so it's just ridiculous. How many apps and online items can one human being pay for very month? This crap all adds up and I'm really sick of it all so I cancelled both accounts for which they would not refund the double account I was being charged $14 per month for 9 months! It took several weeks for me to receive an actual paper after I subscribed. It's much less expensive to order home delivery. I never receive a paper on the weekend. Snowy days, forget it. No paper. Rainy days it's thrown in puddles and soaked when I go outside to pick it up. I do not understand why they care more about their horrible delivery person than their actual customers. I have complained repeatedly with no results. I contacted the delivery person, told them I would definitely mail a check for a tip if service improves. It did not and this newspaper does not care. I grew up in Macomb County. This is a disgrace and a huge disappointment. I was friends with a girl who had a route when I was a kid. I filled in for her when she was on vacation. Also had a wonderful delivery lady that the paper got rid of! None of this makes any sense at all. I don't get it. Any help out there? Chime in please! read more

After 59 years as a subscriber, I think I've finally reached a point that this paper is no longer going to darken my doorstep....if it actually arrives. Customer service? What's that? This last year has been the worst of all, maybe get 5 of 7 weekly papers, they claim to extend the subscription but is it really extended? Never less than 20 minutes to finally reach customer 'service'. Get the same script, sorry about you non-delivery, no refunds, no vouchers to get a paper where sold. We like the Macomb paper, but problem is when we get the paper when it rain its wet, or we don't get the paper, Sunday paper I had to run around the neighborhood collecting it from neighbors yards. We have a paper box right by our mail box how hard is it to put the paper in it. If this continues we will stop!!!!! read more

For the past few years the Macomb Daily sends quarterly bills for a paper I have never subscribed for. I call every three months to tell them they are in erea. Did not receive it, never ordered it,don't want it. The operater you have contact with is an over seas phone bank that will do nothing about it. I would not pick up after a dog with this paper. read more

Was taking D 7 days...Since Jan19 I have not got the paper, I have call them 17times about it. Finally on Feb 17 I stopped 7 days & switched to Sundays. Today was 1st Sun.Delivery, you got it no paper, called 3 times,got lots of apologies still no Sun. Paper. Talked to so-called supervisors three times since Jan 19, they did nothing. I ordered the Sunday edition on Jan 26th (4 weeks for .99, then 6.24 a month) I did not get my first paper until Feb 21st. I was charged 6.24 on Feb 22nd. What happened to my 4 weeks for .99? Then I was charged 29-Mar-21, 7-Apr-21, 26-Apr-21, 17-May-21, 24-May-21 and 9.40 for Jun and Jul because the rates went up! I should have been paid up until November 21st because of their double charging and the 4 weeks for .99. I called several times nd was told they see the problem however they would have to elevate it to a higher level. Never heard a word! I emailed customer service twice, no reply!!! Canceled the paper today, well, maybe... who knows how long it will take for customer service to actually push a button to cancel! would not recommend this paper because of poor service for account management. read more

I purchased a Sunday only subscription for 13 weeks, received the paper only 2 times out of that 13 weeks. Customer service was notified and they told me they would extend my subscription by one week but that is all they could do. So out of 13 weeks, I would only get 3 issues. I addressed these issues with customer service a couple times but the reps tell you it is all fixed, and nothing has changed. Very long waits to speak to someone from the paper, and no resolution once you do talk with a customer service associate. read more

I am moving so I wanted to cancel paper. Web site was horrible, I couldn't navigate. I called big mistake! To cancel paper would be $39.70 for a 4 week period, Sunday only. Really about $10.00 a week for Sunday only paper . Paper was alway late came when they wanted. Not in paper slot on mail box. On rainy day they would drop it straight down in water puddle. Ordered Sunday paper, didn't get 4 weeks in a roll, called and they said they would deliver, never got it nor did we get the Thursday paper. I canceled and still waiting for a refund. read more
