I'm dealing with a complex situation involving a creditor and collection…read moreagency basically trying to screw me over, and am far from being able to afford a regular lawyer, so I called up CLG. Despite the fact that I called at 5:00, they were able to fit me in by 7:40 the same evening (WOW!) Once I arrived I was asked to fill out a short form (most of which had already been prepared by the woman I spoke to on the phone with all the information she had asked (a nice surprise as it cut the time it took to fill out in less than half). By the time I filled out the form I hardly even had a minute to peruse the giant fall of VERY informative brochures they have on everything from creating roommate agreements to dealing with traffic tickets, and any number of useful bits of information. I grabbed two that looked interesting, went to sit down to read them, and just started to open the first one, and I was already being called in (where else do you spend that little time in the waiting room?) I was seen by a lovely young lady who was very friendly and understanding of my problems. She admitted right off the bet that debt and collections are not her specialty (but come on, from a place that gives free legal advice, obviously you're not getting a specialist in the field). However, what she DID do was give me a phone list with the numbers of two free lawyer-by-phone services, one of which specializes in this field and one of which has various lawyers in various disciplines on call at all times to answer questions. She also included a number for a government operated credit counseling service that she said would have information on good ways to start rebuilding my credit rating after this whole ordeal. Furthermore, I was given the names of two government documents to look up that related to my problem, to give me some more information on how to proceed (apparently their internet wasn't working that evening, so she couldn't pull them up herself). All things considered, given the limitations (no internet, no actual specializing personel on site) I got a wealth of useful information in a matter of minutes, and all FOR FREE... how often does that happen? Now, I should mention that this service is limited to people in what they consider a low income bracket. They won't disclose what the cut off is, but when you call they will ask you a few questions about your income, marital status, number of dependants, etc. and if you qualify they'll book you in for an apointment. If you have a legal issue you don't know what to do about, and can't afford a lawyer, I can't recommend this service enough. (On a side note, they also offer regular free legal clinics. I've never been to one so I can't speak to their usefulness, but it may be worth checking out.)

Very high overhead, very expensive setting inside the office, $300 for a half hour telephone call. And there's lots of calls. You'll be doing most of the work for them while they charge you to put it in an affidavit. AND, they do not have the balls to stand up to the opposing counsel. That's because they're all women!!! Now I'm left desperately searching for representation. Throughout that year, I was under the impression that Seth was taking my situation seriously. We spoke several times by phone whenever I had questions, and he told me that while a conviction is helpful, it was not required for civil action. One year after my first contact, I left a message with an update. A week later he called me back and said, "you sound lovely, but I can't help you." I was not given an explanation, despite previously being told my case was viable. Had he declined at the beginning, I would have had far more time to find another lawyer. It is extremely difficult to find anyone willing to take on cases involving police misconduct, and the wasted year has made this even harder. I originally removed my first review because I felt embarrassed mentioning that I am a victim of police brutality. However, I now believe it is important for others to know my experience before choosing this firm. After I left the original review, Raj Bhogal contacted me. At first he spoke in a way that made me feel heard and important, then told me that although he would never tell me to remove my review, he was worried that my review might prevent someone from finding a law firm that "truly cares." This comment also made me feel pressured to delete it. Raj said the trial date was too close to the deadline to sue. I later learned that lawyers can still file and get extensions for such civil cases. I did not know I needed a retainer, and I was never told this during the year of communication. I have emails and phone records documenting our communications. In the end, I was left without support and a clear reason. I hope my experience helps others make an informed decision.

Mark Lawson Is my Hero…read more I was in an incredibly stressful situation for 5 months before I emailed Mark for the first time. I was in an incident involving a van and my bicycle where I would not admit liability for what the mans insurance company was demanding I pay, over $3000 dollars for damage to a van. which they promptly sent to collections, who in turn threatened to ruin my credit (I wont even go in to how outrageous this situation was for me). Before I contacted Mark I had messaged at least 11 different law offices, my insurance company, and other lawyers. Not one would help me, I imagine they can't leverage my situation to make it worth there time (they couldn't make money off my situation). Bicycles do not require insurance and I was not injured nor was my bicycle damaged at all (I still cant understand how his van was demolished by a BICYCLE that sustained no damage, let alone for 1/3rd the price of his entire vehicle.) Point is I was sick with stress it was affecting every relationship in my life, I have enough problems, this year has been awful. I could cope with everything else in my life fine but this situation really affected my mental health, I had no idea what to do or what options I had. The worst part in my mind was that I felt like this was some kind of extortion and I mean that because I was NEVER given a chance to tell my version of the events. AllState just demanded money from me using scare tactics by there collections agency 9Consolidated Recovery Systems) who lied to a point blank question "Can you ruin my credit if I don't know how to deal with this situation right away?" they said "Yes", I recorded that conversation by the way because yea they suck and totally lied. Mark was a busy guy but he listened to my story and responded right away to every one of my emails with solid advice every time. Each time giving me a new avenue to explore while I was trying to find a way to defend myself from this company. I was still stressed but over the course of 2 weeks and only a few emails to Mark about my situation and how things where progressing the last piece of advice that fixed it all was to call Equifax directly and ask them about the situation. I never thought of that, and I'm glad he said that because when I did Equifax told me almost word for word everything Mark had been telling me. Basically "Don't worry they cant ruin your credit until you have had a chance to say your side of the story, and to do that they will have to bring you to court so if they do you should be ready to defend yourself". That was all I needed to hear because all I wanted was to be able to say my side of the story, so id love to go to court if they decided to go that rout. That night I couldn't believe all the stress was going away, since then it was like a knot in my brain was released, I was able to have fun with my family again, I was a totally different person after that and it felt so good to be myself again. Mark didn't have to do what he did, he took the time to listen and talk to me when no one else would give me the time of day. He had nothing really to gain from helping me but he did anyway and for that he is truly my hero. The best I can do to repay him is post this review for him and when I find work again I'm going to get him something to say thank you, a fancy bottle of wine or something. Within 20 minutes he phoned me and said that that time didn't work for him and that if I wanted time today we had to talk now. Unprepared to discuss such a sensitive situation I began to tell him my trauma. He seemed indifferent to my story and then cut me off with 'well what are your damages'. I began to list my damages and within two minutes he had heard enough. He said 'My lawyers are very busy and while you may have a case you will not find representation here. You need a law firm who is more THIRSTY for cases like this. Maybe try for someone who's younger.' (Thirsty was his exact words!) How appalling - Forcing me to recollect a very traumatic situation after I told him a different time would work as if his time was worth more than mine! Cutting me off during my story, going to 'what are your damages' (to see if it was financially worth his time), and then coldly dismissing my claim as something his law firm isn't thirsty enough to do??!!
