I would highly recommend going to see Marshall at Mack's Fish Camp. He was the most knowledgeable, yet humble tour guide one could ask for. He was extremely patient answering our group's many questions and educated us on numerous aspects of the ecosystem. The camp itself goes back six generations, which gives a very personal touch to the experience. Marshall went above and beyond "just" an airboat ride, making a necklace for us out of a river plant, stopping at a private island to allow us to explore, and introducing us to the people and animals that are part of the camp. Go to this family-operated airboat tour. Marshall was very kind and considerate of our children and did everything to ensure their safety and comfort. He let all three borrow sunglasses to protect against the bright setting sun. Marshall was knowledgeable and obviously passionate about protecting this beautiful natural space. We all felt safe while he educated us on Spencer's Island, the local flora and fauna, and how the Everglades feeds an aquifer that eventually becomes our drinking water. And of course the alligators! Marshall grew up in this area--just like his mom, grandparents and great grandparents. He is the ultimate Gladesman! When you go there you feel like you are just hanging out with friends. He knows the area from a lifetime of exploration. Very informative. We saw 3 alligators and got pretty close to Tommy, the male that dominates the nearby tree island. We used a water Lilly straw (see picture), found Native American pottery and alligator bones. He knew all the plants and their various uses. Could also identify native birds. There's many air boat tours in Florida but nothing is better than Macks Fish Camp. If you are lucky enough to get out with Marshall you won't be disappointed. He is one of the few true gladesman left in South Florida. The land he owns has been in his family for generations and he continues to carry that tradition on. The ride isn't even the best part. Listening to Marshall give an honest assessment of the glades of where it's been and where's it's going is worth the price of admission. The stories and knowledge of the history of the land is what keeps me coming back. Whenever friends and family come down to visit I take them to Macks Fish Camp. No one has ever been disappointed. We booked a sunset tour with Marshall on a Saturday night in December. It was just perfect and I would highly recommend Mack's Fish Camp airboat rides to anyone! Our tour was supposed to start at 4pm but we were running about 45 minutes late. Even though we arrived late, Marshall took us on a long wonderful ride and took as much time as needed to show us the beauty of Everglades. His passion for the flora and fauna of Everglades is amazing and you cannot ask for a better tour guide. We have done airboat rides elsewhere before, but it was not even a close comparison! We enjoyed an authentic tour of the Everglades by visiting Marshall and Nicole at Mack's Fish Camp. Marshall not only quoted us the best price we found, but his knowledge and their hospitality far exceeded our expectations. We were a family of 8 and our airboat ride through the sawgrass to the tree island was educational and fun. We saw alligators, turtles, hawks, terns and great blue herons. One member of our party asked about fishing and Marshall brought out rods, bread and worms and several members of our party began pulling up bass and Oscars and tilapia. Shortly after, several of our braver family members, one as young as "almost 6" were swimming with the "water dogs" in the canal. Marshall and the effervescent dog named Hunter kept a close eye on the nearby gators, who, luckily for us, preferred the bread over the arms and legs of my family. Toured with Marshall in airboat with six adults and one five year old boy. Answered all our questions in detail, pointed so many things we didn't see and explained the "what, why, when and who" about everything we encountered. His brother Keith was an encyclopedia of information of what we were about to experience prior to our tour in the boat. I had the pleasure of enjoying this wonderful place and kinda want to leave it a secret. Then again i think of the child in me that wish my parents knew about this place growing up in Miami and cannot be selfish. My boyfriend surprised me with an overnight stay and next day fishing for my birthday and can honestly say it beats any spa day or material gift I've ever received. He nailed it. Immediately upon entering you realize you're away from the city, away from whatever work related stress and you have the chance to ground yourself by appreciating the synchronicity this haven and it's proprietors have with mother nature. I don't want to go too into details about my visit because i realize it's subjective but i will highlight some points on this family run business. The family owned and run property is made up of twin brothers Marshall and Keith and their tribe of friendly spouses and children are more than happy to share tips on fishing, outdoors share their stories and quite frankly make you feel like a valued guest in their home. Great family with a genuine sense of hospitality! The cabins are quaint and come with a full size bed ( the upper lofts can sleep children on each side and would be great for kids that love bunk beds), you also have a microwave, a mini fridge and a grill outside. Whether you're an inexperienced fisher or a pro, you'll catch something! (which Keith will be more than happy to lend his filet knife and show you how he spoils the "Water Dog"....Sneaky Pete, the 12 ft gator that guards the waters and protects the children. The children swim in these waters and the gator actually guards them. These guys call the wildlife and in return the animals actually come, it's unreal! Think of Snow White calling all the creatures of the forest to the cottage except these are real glades men in complete harmony with their backyard and the squirrels, rabbits, cute woodland creatures are American Alligators, Anhingas,Purple Gallinules, turtles etc.. aside from fishing, they have airboats, hunting by season and a nice shop. I love this place. I heard about macks fishing camp from a friend who went 4 years ago. I was told there was no bathrooms in the cabins and no showers at all ! When Me and my boyfriend arrived it was late however Paul kindly showed us around. We decided to spend valentines weekend there with another couple. The cabins are tiny but so cosy and there's only 4 cabins. At first I was scared to be around the water but seeing the kids playing around the water and swinging from the rope over the water made me feel comfortable. One of the owners Keith was super nice greeted us every morning. Nicole was awesome she helped me with anything I needed. And just so you guys can know there is a bathroom and shower. I wish I can live on this camp. Felt so free ! Definitely check this place out you will no regret it. read more

If you want the standard, commercialized, feed the gators tourist trap, do not go to Mack's Fish Camp. This is a family owned and operated place that has been in the Everglades for five generations. This is the real deal! Marshall Jones has forgotten more about the Everglades than most people ever learn. Each tour is customized to the personal interests of the guests. Our family group ranged from 7-75 years old and we all had an awesome time. The kids got to swim in the "River of Grass" and we learned about 6000 years of Native American culture, local flora and fauna and alligator behavior. At one point Marshall suddenly stopped the boat, jumped in the water and came up with a rarely seen Florida Snapping turtle! And yes, we all thoroughly enjoyed the exhilarating boat rides! I had my first experience with airboat tours and the Everglades today and I can say with total confidence I'm glad I went to Mack's. Considering airboat tours of the Everglades to see the gators is such a tourist attraction, we weren't really sure what to expect.. This is a family-owned business and therefore you know their hearts are truly into their work and there's no doubt their whole intent is giving each group an unforgettable experience. Marshall was our tour guide and he was sincerely incredible. He was laid back but very personable and friendly. In just a few minutes of meeting him we felt like we were long-time friends of the family. In addition to his extraordinary character, he was extremely knowledgeable of not only the gators, but also the history of the Everglades and all surrounding wildlife. I thought going into this tour that I was going to see some gators and call it a day.. Hardly! I found this jewel by accident. I saw a sign on the side of Rt. 25 offering air boat rides. After the two mile dirt road I arrived. The owner was outside and I asked about an airboat ride. After talking it over with my son, and father we went on our tour. All I can say is that it was well worth the money. We all had the time of our life. My family of 5 took a fanboat ride at Mack's this April and we had a blast. Marshall Senior was our guide and he knew everything about the history of the area and the local wildlife and agriculture. My three sons ages 3, 6 and 8 had a million questions and he answered everyone. He took it slow at first until the boys felt comfortable and then cranked up the speed just enough to give them a thrill and they loved it. We saw alligators of all sizes. I personally loved the baby alligator the best. Marshall was so nice and accommodating. We arrived early but he was ready and waiting for us and he spent way more time than we had originally planned with us to ensure we saw gators.
